Forsaking the Years of Longing -
Forsaking Billionaire 85
Chapter 9
"All the jewelry, clothes, and bags too?"
Emma hesitated, feeling it was a pity. "These were all things Mr. Roberts personally picked out for you from all over the country." Yes, these gifts were personally chosen by Matthew for her..
But how did his heart change so quickly?
"Get rid of them."
Daphne felt a lump in her throat but managed to say those three words.
As she watched her belongings being carried out of the villa, leaving nothing behind, she felt an odd sense of liberation.
Just as she was about to leave, her phone rang, and the breaking news on the screen made her pause.
"Breaking! Business tycoon Matthew's wife, Daphne, files for divorce. Matthew set to marry the new lady of the Roberts family tonight."
She stared at the screen, seeing Matthew and Charlotte's wedding photos, wave of indescribable bitterness welling up inside her.
The comments below were filled with people criticizing her.
"How could Daphne not appreciate a good man like Mr. Roberts?
She really doesn't know how lucky she is!"
"She must have done something to betray Mr. Roberts. Maybe she had an affair and had no choice but to divorce!"
"Mr. Roberts, don't be sad. We support you marrying your new wife. Daphne, that vile woman, should stay far away!"
Daphne gripped her phone tightly, her fingers turning white.
She had once been adored in the social circle, but now she was just as despised.
But the truth wasn't like that at all; the divorce papers were Matthew's decision.
Unable to bear the anger and frustration, she immediately dialed Matthew's number, intending to get some answers. But the call was declined.
A moment later, a text message popped up.
"Don't worry about the report. Someone must have done it on purpose. I'm busy now and can't take calls."
The cold, detached tone in his words chilled Daphne to the bone.
She let out a cold laugh, thinking, "Too busy? Probably because he's preparing for his wedding with Charlotte."
Since there was nothing left, there was nothing left to endure.
Daphne decided to confront him directly.
She headed to the Roberts family hotel.
As soon as she entered, she spotted Matthew and Charlotte.
Just as she was about to call out to Matthew, she overheard their conversation.
"Matthew, won't Daphne be upset if you do this?" Charlotte's voice carried a hint of concern.
"Don't worry. I'll eventually make her move out and give you the position of the Roberts family's mistress."
Matthew playfully tapped Charlotte's nose, completely oblivious to the despair in the eyes watching them from afar.
Daphne's eyes instantly reddened, tears welling up but refusing to fall.
So, the 'someone' Matthew mentioned in his message was himself...
Daphne bit her lip hard until she tasted blood, but even then, she tried to hold back. However, tears still streamed down her face.
"Matthew, you. why didn't you just tell me?" she murmured, her voice filled with bitterness and self-mockery.
"If you had told me you wanted this position, I would have given it to you. Why go through all this just to deceive me..."
A wave of panic gripped her heart. Unable to bear it any longer, she went to the hospital.
She could not wait any longer; she decided to erase her memories immediately. *Anderson Hospital.
Daphne had already changed into a hospital gown, waiting for the procedure to begin.
"Ms. Walker, are you sure you want to do this? Memory removal is irreversible," the doctor asked again.
"I'm sure."
Daphne's voice was hoarse but firm. She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her flesh, but she didn't feel the pain.
"Would you like us to inform your husband to come care for you after the procedure?" the doctor asked kindly.
"I'm divorced. I don't have a husband. When I wake up, please remind me of that."
Every word felt like a knife slicing into her heart.
Once everything was ready, Daphne lay on the operating table.
Under the dim surgical light, as the anesthetic slowly took effect, a wave of exhaustion washed over her.
Her consciousness began to blur, and just before she slipped into darkness, memories of her past with Matthew flashed through her mind "Daphne, will you marry me?" "Daphne, be my girlfriend."
Daphne heard a faint electric buzz, and then her mind went blank.
Matthew, I've forgotten you.
Life or death.
We'll never meet again...
