Her Forever
(Book 5)- Chapter 51

Theon

I’m standing above the worthless werebear. He calls himself Samuel, and he is completely bare. The claws my father had swiped had rid him of the little clothes he had. His body was riddled with scars, open cuts, and wounds that wept with infections. Why would a were in this bad of shape come here to provoke the king and princes of the Moon Kingdom?

Thaddeus and Dad are still slaughtering the worthless bears and wolves that try to escape. My father’s warriors were taught well, listening to every word that Thaddeus and their king had to say. Several are screaming for mercy; I cannot guarantee that they will let them go, as far as I am concerned, they could suffer. Making threats to the Red Moon pack and a war alliance with the Moon Kingdom was a terrible move.

My nose goes to the top of the werebear, his sores reak of tainted silver. Silver that had been tarnished and not worth enough to kill the bear but enough to leave oozing sores. My claws go to press on one of the sores; it is deep, still dripping in b***d. He winces, not even begging for mercy as my maw stays inches from his neck.

“What game do you play?” I growled in Samuel’s ear. “What does Amato want to accomplish with this worthless trade you have sought?” The bear shuttered, his skin prickled with fear.

“I-I don’t know what you mean. Please just kill me, get it over with.” I hummed, my claw tracing his throat; he did not blink, welcoming the sharp talon to rip open his neck.

“You want to be killed; why is that?” My voice grumbled in his ear. Drool dripped down my furred chin while my eyes never left his.

“Just don’t send me back; I’ll do anything,” he shook again. The tied hands behind the tree pulled tightly, trying to be set free. My dad’s presence behind me in his giant form put a clawed hand over my shoulder.

“What do you make of it,” Caspian and my father spoke harshly. I shook my head, not sure what to make of why the spokesman was in such ill shape. My claw began to smoke. “Silver,” I rasp.

“His b***d is tainted with silver,” Thaddeus threw a bucket of water on my hand as well as our prisoner.

“All of them have silver in the b***d, not enough to kill them but enough for their b***d to be poisoned if ingested. If any of the wolves got b***d in their mouths, they need to be seen by the healer and pump their stomachs.” Just then, several wolves started throwing up violently. “It’s starting.”

“The stomach is meant to absorb vitamins and minerals; the silver in the b***d that drips into the stomach works faster than having the b***d on the skin or in the b***d.” Father spat. “It’s clever. We need to get back, grab the prisoner and that bear over there wining like a newborn cub.”

Glancing around, I see the whining bear, none other than Josiah.

“Damnit. He is like a damn roach. He keeps coming back,” Thaddeus whined. “Think I can kill him real quick, and dad won’t notice?”

“Don’t kill him!” Dad yelled from ahead of the group. “I have something special for him.” Thaddeus laughed loudly, causing several other wolves to jeer and push each other around. The King of the Shifters was known for his brutality, as long as his queen wasn’t around. Mom would have a field day if she knew that he would touch the poor soul. Meaning, mom would be busy for the next several hours doing gods knows what.

The wolves that had begun to become sick were now being carried by healthier wolves as we headed back to the packhouse. They would be tended to by the several healers, pumping their stomachs and trying to get rid of the tainted silver.

“Could this be the same poison that is in Evangeline’s b***d?” Thaddeus mind-linked both my father and me.

“Sounds like it; your mother wouldn’t be poisoned because she heals far too quickly to feel the effects, plus they wouldn’t know that the queen of the shifters is here. Mom can handle the external wounds, but the poison will be difficult for her to heal. B***d transfusions may be our only hope if it gets in the bloodstream.”

Dad hummed, listening to our conversation. “We could ask nearby covens.” Thaddeus and I stopped in our tracks, watching father continue to walk back to the back house.

“What are you saying? Borrow some b***d from some vampires in this realm?” Father shrugged his shoulders. His large paws trudged through the lowering river as many continued to carry our wounded, and father had the barely conscious human bear.

“Doesn’t hurt to ask; it is better to be safe than sorry when we have that many wolves at stake to be poisoned. We also need to brief the rest of the pack they cannot draw b***d and ingest any rogue b***d. It could prove fatal if we didn’t pump their stomachs.”

Dad externally growled, “Your mother and I will head North; there is a hidden convent that uses transported b***d-bags in Canada. Luckily any human b***d will do since werewolves can adapt clean b***d well.”

Thaddeus immediately agreed to dad’s words; I was not so sure. Vampires in Bergarian were always quick to help since the Dark War, but the Dark War changed nothing in the Earth Realm. Would they be so willing to help us? Or would these vampires be the ones who opposed the new generation of vampires and dark creatures?

“s**t,” Dad stood two hundred feet from the packhouse.

“What is it?” Thaddeus stood beside dad in an attack position.

“Looks like we got another mated couple, and this one will be epic for how long she has looked for her mate.”

“Everyone inside, come on, let’s go!” Lenhi was not stepping up doing her Luna duties; she was staring off into space with a golden look in her eyes. Her baby was wrapped up tightly around her body, shielding it from anything that could harm it. Not only that, her body was levitating, making it easier for me to pull her along with us, but it was strange nonetheless.

“Lenhi, please wake up,” I hissed, trying to wrangle all the women and children. I swear some of these pups were like squirrels at a rave; there was no direct direction where they would go. I’d lead them one way, but they go to another. Sighing heavily, I gripped hold of Lenhi around my arm and pushed her inside the bunker.

Stacy was staring around helpless until several wolves began putting babies in her arms. Even though there were women warriors of the pack, it did not mean they were excused from their duties when they had babies of their own. Stacy was now the official baby holder, and her smile brightened. “Looks like you are the official baby wearer, huh?” I joked.

“Yeah, I suppose I am,” she giggled. “It will keep my mind off of some things.” One of the babies nuzzled into her chest, falling into a deeper sleep.

“There’s my girl!” Spencer walked up and pecked Stacy gently on the head. It wasn’t awkward; Spencer made it flow effortlessly like a real couple. Landon stood in front of the bunker doors, glaring at Spencer like this head should be on a skillet. Stacy smiled back, blushing as she wrestled the babies back in a comfortable position in her arms. “I have to say, you look amazing. Holding the pups in your arms like that makes me want to put a pup in you.” Stacy’s face grew bright red, giggles left her mouth. She tried to cover her face, but to no avail; she was the brightest one in the room.

I snorted, thinking how cheesy it sounded, but it was working, and it was working really well. Landon had steam coming out of his ears, and it only made me more sure that Landon was indeed her mate. Even when we should take cover and keep people safe, I enjoyed watching this event play out. So did the other wolves; several of the seasoned women were giggling and cackling, watching how Landon was losing his damn mind.

The first time I met Landon, I knew he was stubborn. He was stoic, had no funny business, and rarely talked to other humans. Now he is over here, gripping the cement door and crumbling it like it was styrofoam.

“Look over there Stace, looks like you’ve got Mr. Head Warrior all in a huff….” Spencer kissed her forehead again, waving at both of us while he walked away. “I will get at least two bears for the both of you, my ladies, to cover your floors with their delicate furs.” One elaborate bow later, Spencer turned only to have Landon’s claws around Spencer’s neck. It was so fast no one saw it coming. Spencer flipped over Landon, whose grip only tightened around Spencer’s neck. Landon’s black eyes bore into Spencer, eyes almost touching.

“f**k!” Spencer gasped for air, clawing Landon’s hands. The back of Spencer’s head hit the cement bunker wall; the smell of b***d filled the air while the rest of the women and children looked on in horror. These wolves were supposed to be protecting outside of the bunker to ensure there wasn’t another ambush coming inside. Now the top warriors were fighting instead of doing their jobs. The bunker was a haven, but now it was filled with raging testosterone. No one dared intervene as Spencer finally broke free, using his knee to ram right into Landon’s stomach. In the brief moment of recovery, Spencer grabbed Landon behind the head, only to be flipped over by Landon’s overwhelming strength. There was no doubt that Landon was the more experienced fighter.

“What did I say about Stacy? You stay the f**k away from her! You hear me?!” Landon growled, his eyes were now red, claws pinching Spencer’s neck. That’s a new color!

“What?” Stacy’s whisper was barely heard, but the room full of wolves heard it loud and clear. The babies were immediately taken from her since she was the scuffle. No one wanted their child near a woman where wolves fought dominance over.

Landon and Spencer stood up; the small cut on Spencer’s eye was already healing. Landon looked down at Stacy, taking a few timid steps towards Landon. Landon didn’t move; the heavy breathing of Landon’s wolf breathed heavily into the room. A pin could be dropped, and everyone could hear it if a bomb fell.

“Why can’t Spencer be around me?” Stacy’s voice was meek, not the usual snarky attitude she likes to hit with men she likes. Landon’s eyes didn’t leave Stacy’s. His voice wavered, and his eyes softened.

“He just can’t,” the deep velvet voice painted the room red. Several women gasped; some disappointed teenagers snapped their fingers, waiting for money to be put in their hands. My head was flying back and forth between the pack members and Stacy and Landon.

Both my fingers crossed, babies now being handed to me as other warriors rushed out of the room. Was this it? Was this the final straw to let Landon get over himself and have Stacy as his mate?

“No, he can’t.” Landon spat. “No wolf can have you.” Landon turned, stomping away. Stacy held her chest like her heart was ripped straight from the rib cage. A silent sob heaved from her chest, and her head rested on my shoulder. So much for that brilliant plan.

The cement doors at the top of the stairs were slowly closed, wolves heading into their positions in the bunker. Making food, starting water preparations, and keeping the little ones occupied and not afraid. Petting Stacy’s hair, I kissed the side of her forehead, hugging her close. We both looked up, just a few feet between the two cement doors to close.

“Except me. I am the only wolf that can have you,” Landon yelled across the room. Stacy and I stood stunned until the doors closed, and every woman in the room screamed out like a bunch of teenagers that had too much pop on a movie night.

That is, until we heard a joyous scream and howls above our heads as the bunker shook with a thunder like noises around us.
