Katherine's POV

"It's also the day I lost my heart to you," Xavier said. "I have never been so in love with someone."

My heart warmed at his words, and my cheeks burned.

"You are my world, Kate," he continued, lifting my chin to look at me. "This," he gestured to the room, "is just a drop in the bucket I want to give to you. I want to spend my life with you and only you."

"Why all the secrecy?" I asked, spoiling the moment.

Xavier swallowed hard and dropped his gaze.

"You haven't touched me for weeks," I whispered. "Kia is going mad inside my mind; she wants me to be at your side as your Luna, yet you keep pushing me away. Tell me the truth. Please, I am begging you. I can't live with this anymore."

Before I could continue, Xavier's arm snaked around my waist, pulled me closer, and cubbed my face in the other hand. I lay into his touch, enjoying the warmth and sparks his hands provided me.

I lifted my gaze in search of his, hoping he would tell me.

But instead, he kissed me, and I got lost in the moment.

"Let's celebrate first," Xavier said. "I will tell you everything later."

I nodded, and Xavier steered me to the table, pulled a chair out for me, and took a seat.

In one swift movement, Xavier opened a bottle of red wine and poured us each a glass.

I kept quiet, just observing Xavier.

"Have you decided what you will do now that you have gotten your revenge?" He asked.

"No, not really," I answered. "I was thinking of doing some traveling. See places and find me again."

Kia wanted me to start digging for him, but I wasn't sure where to start. I was thinking of trying to get hold of John's birth certificate; maybe, by some miracle, his father's name was on it.

I will have to dig through all the boxes in the archive and maybe get some pack members involved. Maybe the older generation knows who he was.

I internally sighed.

This was going to be harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

"I was thinking," Xavier said, "maybe you could continue at the company?"

"Thanks," I said, "I will think of it."

Carlo walked in smiling again, handed us both a menu, and waited patiently for us to order.

"Do you like the cake?" Carlo asked.

He had brought it in, but I didn't really pay any attention to it.

My gaze moved to the cake standing on a small table.

"Yes, thank you," I said, and Carlo's eyes lit up.

He took our order and left.

I took a sip of the delicious red wine, and my nerves suddenly relaxed, giving me courage.

I got up and slipped into Xavier's lap. I wanted to see how he would react.

Will he give in to my needs and bend me over the table?

Or will he push me away again?

Xavier stiffened under me, yet I ignored his attempts to make me feel uncomfortable.

My arms snaked around Xavier's neck, and I pulled him hungrily to my lips.

Xavier's gentleness gradually became domineering, and his finger dug into my waist.

My heart ached hurtfully in my chest. I was about to get up and leave Xavier.

I didn't have any other choice.

Seeing his sleeping face and holding me tightly around my waist, tears didn't even have a chance to burn behind my eyes and spilled over. They were slowly making their way down my face, leaving burning lines everywhere they touched. Xavier had made it easier for me to leave him. He had told me the truth about why he couldn't bear to look at me.

My thoughts rushed back a few minutes ago.

I was adequately sexually satisfied. Xavier had made sure he caught up on the lost time, and we used every possible position we could manage.

I sighed

When we were totally satisfied and I had come at least five times, Xavier wrapped his arms around me and pulled me to his chest. He held on to me as if I were his life support.

A low and long breath escaped his lips, and I knew he was thinking of how to explain what was bothering him.

"Kate," he said, his voice shaking.

"Mmm," I answered lazily with my eyes closed as I was enjoying his closeness and heat.

"When you were in the hospital," he said, and I could feel his body stiffen, "you lost..."

"I lost a lot of time being with you," I whispered to him, turning to Kia and growling at her. "I told you we were hurting our mate!"

"That's not what I am referring to," he said with a sigh.

Kia whimpered, and she pulled her ears to her head. All of a sudden, she looked very guilty. That is when it occurred to me that Kia never told me what happened that was so important. Was this the same thing?

"Then what is he talking about?" I growled at her, but she left the depths of my mind in a hurry.

I internally sighed and turned my attention back to Xavier.

"What are you talking about?" I asked Xavier, feeling my heart race out of worry.

"You were pregnant," he whispered so low that I almost didn't hear him. "It broke me when you lost the pup, and I didn't want to say anything because you already had enough sh*t to deal with on your plate at that time." My heart broke into a million odd pieces after hearing Xavier's words.

I was pregnant without even knowing.

I lost the pup, and neither of them told me anything about it.

Why didn't Kia save my pup?

Why did everyone close to me keep such a secret from me?

Didn't they believe I was strong enough to process that bit of information?

Did Greyson know as well? Was he lying to me too?

I sighed and carefully got out of bed, making sure not to disturb Xavier's sleep.

I had made up my mind: if Xavier couldn't trust me with the truth and didn't believe in me that I was strong enough to handle the truth, how would he expect me to trust him in our relationship?

He knows I don't play games, and I have no time for lying and deceiving.

I took out the share transfer contract from my handbag and left it next to his bed with a note.

I have gotten my revenge, and technically, nothing more was keeping me here.

I called Elder Richard, and he came to pick me up and drive me home. He gave me one worried look when I got out of the SUV but didn't say anything. He knew... He could tell... Elsa must have told him what my next move would be. I called a taxi and grabbed the bag from under my bed-my luggage had been packed months ago.

My heart pounded hurtfully in my chest as I said goodbye and walked out the front door.
