Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 117
Katherine's
POV
I sneered through gritted teeth, ignoring the pain in my chest and Kia's constant, heartbroken howling in my head.
I didn't expect a man as cold as Xavier to ever be like this. I guess I was wrong, and he has shown his true colors.
I could no longer hear the doctor or the woman outside.
I was so furious at myself. I felt hurt and betrayed for trusting Xavier.
I remember that the doctor gave me something to help me sleep, and I took a tablet without waiting for the time the doctor said I should.
I tossed and turned the whole night, picturing the woman standing at Xavier's side.
I hated her. I hated her for touching and taking what was mine.
My blood boiled in my veins. I wanted to rip her beautiful face apart and feed her corpse to the dogs.
When I eventually woke up, I was soaked in my own sweat, and it was already almost noon.
I sighed helplessly as I got out of bed and saw a note from the doctor saying he had come to check up on me, but I was asleep before I headed to the bathroom.
I took a long, hot shower, trying to wash away the dreadful dreams that were still fresh in my mind.
I found that breakfast was delivered while I was in the shower, and a note was stuck under the plate.
I was slightly shaken when I noticed the note came from Xavier, but when I thought of the woman last night, I immediately threw the note aside, refusing to know what it said. "Luna, are you awake?" Greyson called from the door.
"You can call me Kate," I said coldly. "What can I do for you?"
Greyson was a bit startled and looked in the direction of Xavier's room.
"Never mind," he said, turning on his heels and heading back to Xavier's room.
I scrunched my eyebrows together, feeling even pissed at Greyson as well. He had been by my side for weeks, and he had never mentioned or hinted that Xavier was seeing another woman. The rain outside had started to fall lightly, and the air was filled with the fresh smell of earth.
I took a deep breath of the wonderful scent and wondered if I would be able to sneak off to the forest close by and take a run.
I watched the pedestrians walking in the rain with umbrellas on the street. I guess they wouldn't notice.
I quietly walked through the entertainment area. Some people were in the swimming pools; others were running around with raincoats, splashing around in the puddles.
The light rain couldn't dampen the people's enthusiasm. I couldn't even help but feel a little eager to jump in the puddles and feel like a kid again.
"Hello, beautiful lady," A man with brown, wavy hair said this and held out his hand to me. I was sitting in the lobby, caught up in my thoughts, when he approached.
I could smell that he was a wolf, and one with rank.
I glanced at him nervously, yet he ignored my nervousness and continued.
"You seemed to be a bit lost," he said, smiling. "Care to join me for a run in the woods?"
At first, I wanted to refuse. I didn't know this wolf. I didn't even know that wolves lived in this area.
What if this was some kind of trick?
What if he was an alpha and...?
I caught sight of Xavier standing at the entrance of the lobby, looking at me. His face was hard and cold.
"Of course," I said, then gently took the man's hand and left with him.
Upon entering the forest, the wolf called Sam walked behind a tree and shifted into his huge, rusty wolf. I was amazed at the size of the beast.
The wolf yapped excitedly at me as he went around the tree, wanting me to go and shift.
At least the guy didn't push me or try to take advantage of me; otherwise, Xavier would have intervened a long time ago.
I could still see Xavier; he had walked closer to where we were.
Kia was going wildly inside my mind; she wanted to be let loose and go to Xavier's side.
I hesitated for a moment.
"Sorry," I said to the wolf, "I haven't shifted much before. So give me some time, please."
The rusty wolf nodded his huge head, and I slowly walked toward a tree, only to slip and fall into the mud.
The rusty wolf quickly came closer, hoping to be able to help me.
Yet I slipped and fell, pulling the beast on top of me.
The wolf yapped at me, trying again to get me out of the puddle of mud. We both slipped, and he landed on top of me.
The wolf whimpered apologetically and got up, yet his feet slipped and he came crushing down.
A black shadow passed me, and the poor wolf was knocked off me hard and slung to the side.
Ray stood all powerful before me, his hair standing horizontal, and he was ready to fight the rusty wolf.
The rusty wolf retreated as fast as he could and disappeared into the forest.
Ray gave me a disappointing look, then turned around and ran in the opposite direction.
I went back to my room to clean up and pack my luggage. I was about ready to leave when the rain started again.
I sighed, annoyed; there were no taxis willing to drive here when it rained.
I had no choice but to return to my room again.
I wasn't sure if it was the Goddess who tried to tell me something, but every time I tried to leave the hotel, it started to rain or it became windy outside.
I eventually gave in and was stuck there for three long days, and every night that call girl sneaked into Xavier's room at the same time and then left in the early hours of the next morning. She was very punctual and always on time. I haven't seen Xavier since the forest incident, which was weird.
I just couldn't take it anymore. I got up from the table in my room, glanced at the clock on the wall, and seeing that I had ten minutes before the woman would arrive, I rushed toward Xavier's room and knocked on the door. When the door opened, an intense smell burned down my nostrils, and I wasn't prepared for what I was about to see.
