Chapter 29

Xavier's POV

It was just after 7 pm when Greyson and I stopped at the fancy restaurant close to city hall.

Greyson and I got out and took off toward the restaurant entrance.

A young girl, with blond hair and big sparkling blue eyes, welcomed us to the reception area.

We introduced ourselves and she showed us to our table.

We were a couple of minutes early and Greyson and I quickly checked our emails while we waited for John and his family to arrive.

My phone suddenly rang, seeing that it was Katherine, I excused myself and got up, and exited the dining area.

It was on my return inside that I spotted Greyson standing outside, gesturing with his hands.

"What's wrong?" I asked as I walked closer.

"Issues with the contract," he answered.

I didn't bother to ask any more questions, knowing Greyson was capable of sorting such issues, and I made my way to the table.

John and his wife were just about to take a seat at the table. John's face was glowing with excitement.

"Why do you look so happy, John?" His mate asked.

I still didn't get a feel for that she-wolf, there was something about her that sent cold shivers down my spine.

"My dearest," John said, "I have received the best news today!"

That spiked my interest, and I hid to eavesdrop.

John's eyes sparkled out of excitement before he continued.

"As soon as Kate set foot in the company, she made a fool out of herself. My informant told me that she angered her whole department, and they are complaining about her." John sat back with a broad smile on his lips and let out a satisfying sigh.

"I told her, she doesn't have the experience of running such a big company. Now that she has created an uproar in the office, she still wants to take over King Enterprises! She has a lot to learn!" "What did she do?" Rose asked.

"The new official wanted to pave the way... She thought that she could throw her weight around."

"I always had this feeling that Kate came back knowing who and what we are. Don't you think it's wise to get rid of her? Before she creates issues..."

"Dad," Erika called as she entered the restaurant. She was wearing a tight red mini-dress with a low cut in the front.

"What do you think of my dress?" Erika asked, "Do you think Xavier would like it?"

I shook my head. One wrong move and her breasts would be on display to everyone around us.

John's eyes brightened, and he clapped his hands.

"My daughter is so beautiful," he praised her, "I think even Xavier will not be able to keep his hand off you..."

"Kate's family is discussing her first day at the office," I answered.

"Interesting..." Greyson commented and turned his attention to the group.

"You are surely beautiful," Rose praised, "just remember that you should not be over-enthusiastic this time. The last time you gave Xavier a bad impression, it will be no easy task to ask Xavier out this time." Rose pulled Erika closer and whispered to her, "You must not make any mistakes this time, okay?"

"I know, Mom," Erika said and took a seat, "I am confident that I will succeed this time," Erika said proudly.

"Seems you have another stalker on your hands," Greyson laughed.

I huffed, annoyed, and pulled my jacket straight.

"Let us get this ball on the roll..." I said to Greyson, and we headed toward the back door and entered by the front.

The young host chuckled when she saw me, and I handed her a $100 bill.

"Don't say anything," I whispered in her ear, "and show us to our table again."

She licked her lips but did as she was told.

"Ah, Alpha Xavier, nice for you to join us!" John said, as soon as he spotted us.

"Beta John," I greeted him, and I nodded my head, acknowledging the rest of the people at the table.

"Alpha Xavier, I hope you don't mind me bringing my daughter, Erika. I just want to apologize again for my daughter's behavior at the party."

John turned to Erika and winked.

"My girl, this is your opportunity to apologize properly for your unacceptable behavior last night."

Erika nodded her head slightly, and when she got up, the hem of her dress lifted slightly and showed off some of her underwear...

I raised an eyebrow at Greyson, and he chuckled under his hand, finding the embarrassing moment hilarious.

Erika pretended as if it were nothing and carefully pulled her dress down.

A waiter standing close by immediately came forward and handed her an open bottle of champagne and some glass flutes.

"Did she just use sex to get the waiter's attention?" Greyson mind-linked, surprised.

"Seems so..." I replied, a bit startled.

Erika started to pour two glasses of champagne, and Greyson, sitting next to me, narrowed his eyes.

"Don't drink that," he mind-linked, turning his gaze toward me.

"Why?" I asked.

"No," I answered coldly, "I don't drink and drive."

Erika took her seat, looking a bit disappointed that her little trick didn't work.

"Thanks," I mind-linked Greyson.

"Anytime..." he replied.

"Should we order?" John asked politely and waved the waiter closer.

I sat back, and my gaze found Greyson's.

"Alpha and I have had a late lunch..." Greyson said.

"That's a pity," Rose commented, "this restaurant's food is amazing..."

"So I have heard," I replied.

I waited patiently for John and his family to finish their food order, and once the waiter left our table, my patience had dried up and I got down to the reason we were here.

"If there is anything you need to say behind Kate's back, do so now..." I said.

John was a little startled and embarrassed by my attitude. He didn't expect me to just get to the point.

John hesitated but seemed to find the courage to say what he needed.

"Well, Alpha Xavier, when I got back home last night, my mate and I discussed Kate's Welcoming Party. We felt like it was a bit rushed..." John turned toward his wife and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Rose and I believed we could have done more to make the party more memorable for Kate..."

Well, one thing is for sure, the party was memorable just thinking of all the family drama.

John took a deep breath and winked at Erika before he continued his rehearsed speech.

"Kate has now started working at King Enterprises, as you know..." John said, "With you by her side, the engagement is just a simple announcement..."

John dropped his head, looking embarrassed.

"We want to know if you would allow us to have a formal ceremony, plan and prepare for the proceedings, and have a proper and formal engagement party to show you that we are welcoming you to the family..."

John wiped a stray tear from his eyes. His acting was getting on my nerves.

A smile played on my lips, and I pretended to weigh my options...
