Katherine's

POV

I never expected to see Xavier walk into King Enterprises and act like the place belonged to him.

Power radiated around him, while his face screamed disappointment.

"Waiting for someone is not an issue that I can forgive," Xavier said coldly. "However I am really disappointed by your employee's work ethic!" Did Xavier hear what the employees had to say about me? Is that why he was angry?

Was it that bad?

My mind trailed off. I haven't scolded Sarah that badly; I just told her that I didn't approve of her work ethic and that I was her boss.

What did he hear that upset him this much?

I watched Xavier's face as the employees complained, and something in his eyes reflected that this wasn't some act.

He really didn't like the atmosphere in the office or any of the employees' attitudes.

"If you insult or even gossip about Ms. King's back again..."

My gaze snapped toward John, scolding the employees, and more comments were directed my way.

I sighed. I didn't think that this would upset Xavier this much, even though he knew my plan. Maybe this was just a basic instinct from a mate's perspective. I would have done the same. Or would I? Xavier calmly made his way to my side. His intoxicating scent drove my insides to mush, sending me on a magical trip of lust and desire.

Hell, Xavier was even more handsome when he was angry and domineering.

"Is there somewhere more private?" He asked, breaking the spell on me.

I narrowed her eyes at him.

What was he planning? And why did he bring so many people with him? And why does the old man look so familiar?

I nodded my head and turned toward my office.

"Make yourselves comfortable," I said, as we entered the office.

Greyson closed and locked my office door behind John, the last person to enter. He then gave a signal to the old man, who gestured to the others to open the cases. Cases?

Was Xavier here to buy my company of some sort?

Was he here to bribe us?

What the hell was going on?

I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn't even notice the group of employees at my office windows until the group of females screamed and went crazy. Seriously? Behave! This is still a professional company! We have guests and...

What are they going on about?

"Have a look," Xavier said, gesturing to the cases on display. "You can choose whichever one you like; they are all your size." My size?

What was he going on about?

What am I missing?

I turned my gaze toward one of the cases an assistant of some sort held, seeing something shimmer in the light.

Is that? Are those diamonds? Did Xavier bring them here?

My mind rushed back to last night, remembering how Xavier held and turned my left hand over and over again.

Was he busy estimating my left ring finger's size?

Out of disbelief, I found Xavier's gaze, and an uncertain smile followed on my lips.

"You are unbelievable," I whispered, feeling my cheeks burn out of embarrassment.

"I am not sure which ring you would like, so I am allowing you to choose one for yourself," Xavier announced, loud enough for even the people outside to hear.

My gaze moved toward John, where he stood. He looked a lot paler than a few minutes ago, and he stood with a strained jaw.

Was Xavier doing this to ensure everyone knew he was engaged to me and not Erika?

Was he doing this to make it difficult for John and them to influence the engagement party?

I knew it wouldn't change much, and John wouldn't give up that easily. When the time came to announce our engagement, John could still find ways to delay or even influence the announcement. "Alpha Xavier, you are very thoughtful in letting Kate choose her own ring," John said.

Yet, Xavier ignored him and only held my attention.

"Come," he said so tenderly that the single word sent shivers down my body. Xavier took my hand in his, sending even more sparks to my core, and led me to the first case.

They were all beautiful and expensive diamond rings, and there were too many to choose from.

Xavier picked a ring and fitted it to my finger. Then he turned and shifted his gaze from left to right.

He scrunched his eyebrows together, then replaced the ring with something else.

Each case held twenty-odd pieces of diamond rings in the best color and cut, and each of them was bigger and more dazzling than the next.

The feeling was overwhelming, and I felt embarrassed when Xavier fitted the next ring on my finger.

I had better stop, Xavier. He started to look a bit worried that I wasn't reacting to the rings he had put on my finger, and even though every one of these rings was beautiful, not every one of them was to my taste. "Xavier," I stopped him, and his gaze shifted to me. "I will choose one for myself."

I gave him a gentle smile as he removed the ring from my finger and handed it to the jeweler.

I left Xavier's side and walked past every case held open, stopping at one ring that caught my attention.

It was very similar to the one my mom used to wear, and I always admired her ring. This ring held a clear white diamond with several smaller diamonds beside the huge stone.

I gestured to the jeweler, and he carefully removed the ring from the case.

"Ms. Kate," he said, as I allowed Xavier to fit the ring on my finger, "this is an excellent choice. This diamond's quality and clarity are rare, and it is a one-of-a-kind ring."

I smiled faintly, removed the ring, and handed it back to the jeweler.

"Do you like it?" Xavier asked, searching my gaze.

"I do," I answered, and Xavier gave the signal to wrap it for me.

"Yes, yes, I will certainly wrap the ring for Ms. King."

"One of these days," Xavier said, taking my hands in his and pressing a kiss on my knuckles, "everyone will know you as Ms. Katherine Black-wife, partner, and Luna of the famous Alpha and businessman, Xavier Black."
