Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 36
Katherine's
POV
The name Mrs. Black lay heavy in the office, and the office had ever since been quiet.
Xavier and the group had since left my office, and Sarah had seen them outside.
Everyone was envious of our engagement, except for John. He looked a bit annoyed at Xavier's decision to have me pick out a ring so openly.
I opened the folder with the financial reports Sarah gave me and started working through them.
I had started to look at the business contracts as well, and I couldn't find anything unusual, but the unit price of some of the contracts exceeded the market price by more than double. Although everything else seemed normal, I didn't believe that everyone would pay such a high price for such massive projects.
There was something fishy about it.
I lifted my gaze and saw Sarah looking at her cell phone and acting very sneaky and very serious.
After turning and putting away her cell phone, she looked up and moved her gaze over the employees to see if anyone saw her. She sighed in relief and went on with her work. Maybe John gave her another assignment. I wonder what?
I picked up the office phone and dialed Sarah's extension. It rang twice before she answered.
"Amanda, speaking," she answered.
"Amanda," I said, waiting for her to recognize my voice.
"Yes, Ms. King, what can I do for you?" She respectfully asked.
"The financial report you gave me hasn't been approved yet; is that correct?" I asked.
"I think so." She answered, unsure.
"Why haven't you told me that? This after I had read through the whole document and wasted my precious time! Do you know if the chief financial officer has approved all these huge financial transactions?" I yelled over the phone. "No," she answered.
"Then you better find out!" I said and dropped the call.
Although the rest of the staff couldn't hear what I was saying to Sarah, she immediately pulled her face back in disapproval and sought compassion from her colleagues.
Sarah mumbled under her breath after she set the desk phone down, got up, and rushed out of the office, creating the distraction I needed.
Employees stopped her and asked about what I had said and asked, creating even more of an uproar.
"As soon as Mr. Black left the offices, that b*tch showed her true colors again," one of the employees complained.
"You should have seen her with Mr. Black earlier; she was all lovely dovey."
I watched the group from my office door, then ducked down and quickly, yet quietly, walked to Sarah's desk.
I found her cell phone in her desk drawer, was surprised that she didn't lock her phone with some kind of pin, and quickly typed and sent John a message from her phone.
"What you told me to do, I have done well. Do you want to detain her even more?"
As soon as the message was sent out, John replied.
"No, you only give her these half-year financials, but not the rest. That is where the problem is."
I quickly deleted the messages and returned to my office.
After a while, Sarah returned with my answer.
Her eyes were red and swollen, indicating that she had been crying.
"Thank you, you can go..." I said, yet I changed my mind the second she reached the door.
"Do you know where my uncle has gone to?" I asked and lifted my gaze.
"I have no idea where the chairman has gone to. I am not his assistant, nor his secretary!" she answered, aloofly.
"Then find out where he is; I have something urgent to discuss with him," I ordered, and I went on with my work. Sarah hesitated, and from the corner of my eyes, I could see she was about to cry.
What is it with this girl? She is an assistant, for goodness sake!
Yet again, it created an uproar in the office when Sarah walked out and Amand stood by her side to comfort her.
"What are you crying about, Sarah?" Amanda asked, "Is the Devil wearing Prada and embarrassing you again?"
Sarah wiped her tears before she spoke.
"No, the CEO told me to find out where the chairman had gone to... Visit Job nib.com to read the complete chapters for free. I am just a simple assistant. How can I call the chairman and ask him where he is? Even if I asked the chairman's assistant, it would be seen to be unprofessional." "Then tell her that this is not your job!" Amanda urged.
"I did," she sobbed, "but she doesn't want to listen to me!"
A smile played on the corners of my lips as I listened to her complaints about me.
If I kept pushing her, Sarah would break down sooner rather than later and tell me the truth, or take her bag and leave...
The question was: which one would it be?
It took Sarah an hour before she came in and gave me the news that John had left and wouldn't be available for the rest of the day.
"It took you long enough," I yapped at her, "if there was a fire in the building, your lack of urgency would have caused everyone's death today!"
I turned my back on her and grabbed my bag. I hesitated as I held the reports in my hand.
Will I be working tonight, or should I just take a break?
I sighed.
I might as well work through the rest of the report; I wouldn't be able to get any rest anyway.
I put the reports in my bag and headed to the exit.
Sarah seemingly decided it was better to leave before I gave her a piece of my mind. I found her sitting at her table, crying her heart out.
I ignored her, as well as the rest of the employees, pressed the elevator's call button, and waited for the elevator.
Down in reception, Kelly spotted me and winked at me. She pressed the turnstile button and picked up the phone, calling my driver.
I gave her a quick nod of the head, thanked her, and stalked toward the glass door.
Moments later, my driver stopped, greeted me, and opened the passenger door for the SUV.
"Please take me home," I said, and the driver nodded his head.
I sat back with a broad smile on my lips.
Things were now slowly falling into place.
I grabbed my phone and called Xavier out of excitement.
"Hello," Xavier answered after the second ring, and I burst out laughing, seeing Sarah's helpless, swollen gaze in my mind. She has been helping me more than I thought she would. "Someone is in a good mood," Xavier commented, breaking my chain of thoughts.
"Why are you so happy?" He asked, "What did you do?"
"Nothing too serious," I replied, trying to control my laughter. "I am just one step closer to my goal!"
