Katherine's POV

An evil grin crept onto Erika's lips.

"I want you dead! I want to kill you and see your blood spilled. I hate you! I hate the idea that you survived that fall. You were already dead to us!"

I frowned, yet didn't say anything, and took my cell phone from my pocket and replayed what she just said back to her.

The recording was played over and over again, and Erika gritted her teeth.

"Kate, give me your cell phone, or else I will release my wolf and fight you!"

I turned toward the door and didn't pay attention. Erika launched herself toward me, bringing me down to the ground, and my phone slipped from my grip.

Erika's room door was kicked open, and reporters, followed by camera crews, streamed inside the room, seeing Erika on top of me.

Strong arms pulled me from under Erika, and I was crushed into a solid chest.

Xavier pushed through the crowd of people, while the reporters had a field day in Erika's room. They just witnessed what had happened and heard the recordings.

"Miss Erika, is it true that you said you wanted to kill the heir of the King's group?" A reporter asked.

"What is the purpose of sending a photo and apologizing on Instagram last night and pointing the finger at your cousin for the abuse if it clearly shows that you are the one who just abused Ms. King?" Another asked. Erika looked bewildered and confused. She managed to escape and ran out the door and down the stairs to hide.

"Thank you," I whispered to Xavier.

Xavier pulled me to his chest, and I couldn't help but notice he was shivering.

"Are you okay?" I asked and lifted my gaze to find his.

"Yes," he answered, yet his jaw was strained and his eyes were hard. He turned his gaze toward the window and took a step closer to have a look.

The security guards managed to force the reporters out, and they were arguing at the door.

Erika yelled like a possessed person somewhere inside my home. Her mental state was worrisome.

John and Rose hurried outside a few minutes later.

I guess someone must have called and informed them of what happened.

"Let's take you back to your room," Xavier said, and I replied with a simple nod of my head.

On our way to my room, we saw John and Rose in the living room, standing over Erika's body. She had curled herself up in the corner of the room, frightened and shaking violently.

"Erika, are you all right?" Rose asked, yet Erika didn't answer. She was rocking her body from side to side, staring into nothing.

"Erika?" Rose called again and touched her shoulder.

Erika screamed like a possessive creature and extended her claws. She had no control over her human side.

Rose backed away, shocked at her daughter's reaction, then turned toward John with a hateful gaze.

"This is all on you!" She sneered through gritted teeth, "If you hadn't locked Erika up like a prisoner in her own home, she would have broken down like this!" Xavier pulled me toward my room.

A couple of minutes later, a knock sounded at my bedroom door, and I got up to see who was at the door.

Before I could register who was standing before me, a force struck me from the side, and I tumbled down and hit my head hard against the table and the wall. Blood was oozing from my head, and my eyes became blurry from the pain.

My eyes

"You!" The familiar voice roared, "I have let you enter the company to honor your parents. I never expected you to do this to your cousin. Look at her! Look at what you have done to her!" Despite my head injury, John grabbed me and picked me up like I was some doll, ready to strike me again.

I closed my eyes, refusing to see John's murderous look as he lifted his hand.

"Alpha Xavier?" John gasped, surprised, and I peeked, seeing him turn pale out of fear.

Xavier had grabbed John's hand and was holding it in the air while his other hand was around his neck and lifting him into the air.

Anger and power radiated from Xavier, and John let go of me.

John struggled against Xavier's hold and was trying to call for help.

Rose must have known something was wrong when she appeared at my bedroom door.

She froze in her tracks for a bare second, witnessing John being lifted from the floor. Her eyes grew big, and she whimpered at Xavier's fierce and dominant appearance.

"Alpha Xavier," she cried, trying to get his attention and trying to release John from Xavier's hold. "What is going on? Let go of John!"

"Alpha Xavier, I was wrong," John managed to form the proper words, "I was wrong to strike Kate. Let me go, please!" He begged.

"I'm not the one you need to apologize to," Xavier said coldly, dropping John to the floor. "Apologize to my fiancee!" John gasped for air and coughed, and Rose tried to help him to his feet. Xavier rushed toward me, picked me up, and carried me to bed.

My head hurt and I moaned out of pain, yet the feeling wasn't even close to the day my uncle and aunt had me tortured by the council.

"What are you looking at?" Rose yelled out in anger, sending a piercing pain through my head. "Can't you see that Kate is hurt? Go call a doctor!"

"John, are you ignoring my request?" Xavier suddenly spoke next to me. His voice was soft and calm, yet it carried a warning.

"Do you think the King Group is strong enough for me to turn my back on you?"

Before my parents' deaths, Black Umbrella Group was involved in a lot of the projects with my father but canceled them after my parents' deaths.

With the current financial situation of King Group, there was no way that John could afford another contract loss.

"You better apologize." Rose's warning rang in my ears seconds before everything slowed around me and turned dark.
