Xavier's

POV

Ray was pacing up and down in my mind; he was slowly giving me a headache, and that was before I even had my morning coffee.

"Why is she not picking up!?" I growled, getting worried.

It was already past 6 a.m. Shouldn't Kate be awake by this time?

By the twentieth call, I was seeing red. The phone rang on the other side, and just before it went to voice mail, I heard the phone being answered.

"Did you hit Erika last night?" I growled, not even giving Kate a chance to say hello.

"No," Kate answered, sounding confused and still asleep. "For what reason would I have done that?" She asked, sounding annoyed.

"Check your phone," I growled again and cut the call.

Whatever happened last night created a wave on social media. A reporter called me in the early hours of the morning, giving me the news. I just growled and hung up, summoning Greyson to my quarters to explain what was going on. "Seems like there was some domestic violence last night," Greyson commented, "yet it doesn't say that Kate directly slapped Erika, just that Erika is showing pictures and apologizing for what she did." And showed me the post. I shook my head, annoyed; that was the main reason why I didn't like social media.

People reached their own conclusions.

"I suggest you rather call Luna and ask her what happened," Greyson said, "but this is a bit out of character for her."

Greyson was right. Kate had impeccable self-control, and some days I wasn't sure how the hell she was capable of doing so, so I made the call.

"So?" Kelly asked when she entered my quarters looking for her mate.

"She says she is innocent," I answered, getting up. "I'm going to get ready for work."

Greyson and Kelly just nodded, and I left to get ready for work.

I was on my way to work when Kate called and informed me that John was refusing to let her go to work.

I sighed, annoyed.

I knew the only reason he was doing this was to ensure she didn't say something to put his family in a bad light.

Ray growled in my mind; he had a bad feeling about this.

"What are your plans then?" I asked.

"Confront Erika," was her simple reply, and she hung up to ensure I wouldn't change her mind.

"Trouble is coming," Ray huffed, "get to mate!"

Ray was right, if I didn't do something, it might just end worse.

"Greyson," I mind-linked as I drove past the King Group office building, seeing the reporter group at the door. "Get the reporters down to the King's residence." "Why?" Greyson asked.

"Sparks are about to fly!" I told him and cut the link.

Minutes later, I watched Greyson stop at the King Group company, quickly get out and say something to the reporters, then get back into his car and drive toward the King's residence. This book has many missing chapters and scenes if you're not reading it on [J]obnib.c[o]m. As suspected, the reporters were hungry for a juicy story and followed Greyson.

We stopped just in time when Erika screamed at the top of her lungs from her room.

"Sh*t!" I growled and ran toward the entrance of the residence, followed by the reports on my heels.

I followed Kate's scent toward a closed door. Erika's repulsive smell lingered in the area.

"I want to kill you and see your blood spilled. I hate you! I hate the idea that you have survived that fall!"

Fall? Was she talking about the river? Was she there? Was she just as deep into all of this family sh*t as her folks?

"Kate, give me your cell phone, or else I will release my wolf and fight you!"

A sound like something or somebody was knocked over followed, and I didn't hesitate and kicked open the door.

Kate was lying underneath Erika, trying to push and fight her off.

Erika had this murderous look on her face, like she was ready to put an end to Kate.

Ray growled, fighting for control, and I rushed toward the fight, pushed Erika aside, and pulled Kate from the floor and into my chest.

I hissed under my breath, and Erika's gaze snapped toward me. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw me and the reporters.

"Louis," I mind-linked the reporter next to me, "make sure you make Ms. Erika's life a living hell with your questions. She has tried to kill your future Luna!"

A smile appeared on his lips as he stepped forward.

"Ms. Erika, is it true that you said you wanted to kill the heir of the King's group?" He asked, and Erika's eyes grew even wider.

Cameras flashed around us, and I gave Erika one last look, grinned satisfiedly, and pushed through the crowd toward the door.

I turned and watched the reporters having a field day with Erika, especially Louis, yet I couldn't help but be angry at Kate's stupidity.

I internally growled. She could have been hurt! Or worse, killed!

I can't bear to lose another mate, not one that is as special as her!

"Thank you," Kate whispered. "Are you okay?" She asked. She must have noticed my emotions spiraling.

"Yes," I answered, pissed at her. If only she had known how dangerous the situation was.

John wasn't what he was claimed to be, and after digging deeper into his history, it seems the only reason he wanted the company was to expand his illegal trades.

Erika ran past us with reporters on her heels. A smile followed my lips. There was something seriously wrong with that girl.

My gaze slowly moved toward the window, seeing the security forces forcing the reporters out of the residence.

John, followed by Rose, hurried inside, searching for Erika to calm her down.

"Let's take you back to your room," I said. We couldn't stay there the rest of the day, and I needed to check if Kate was hurt.

On our way to Kate's room, I could hear John and his mate.

I wasn't really interested in knowing if Erika was alright, not after what she and John tried to do.

Kate got stuck listening to her family's conversation, and I steered her toward her room.

I closed the door behind us and made her sit at the table, then started to search for any injuries. When I was completely satisfied that she only had a couple of bruises and no injuries, I excused myself to make a call.

I heard the knock at the door but didn't think much of it. That was until I heard John growl.

I turned around to see John picking Kate up by her hair, and he lifted his hand, ready to strike her.

Ray roared, forced control over me, and grabbed John around his neck. My claws extended, scraping John's neck and lifting him from the floor.

John let go of Kate with shock written on his ugly face.

"Alpha Xavier?" John gasped. He surely didn't know I was inside Kate's room.

My mind clouded over, feeling Ray urge me to take John's life.

"Alpha Xavier," John's mate cried next to me, struggling hard to have my hand released from John's neck.

I didn't listen to a word she said. Anger radiated from me.

"Alpha Xavier, I was wrong," John said, gasping for air.

"Kill him!" Ray growled.

"No!" I said to Ray, taking proper control of him, "Killing him now wouldn't fix Kate's problems."

"It would make it easier!" he argued.

I internally shook my head at him.

"It would!" I said. "You know what John is doing, and if he were dead, we wouldn't be able to help."

Ray growled, annoyed, yet he understood.

"I'm not the one you need to apologize to," I said coldly, dropping John to the floor. "Apologize to my fiancee!"

I hurried to Kate's side, picked her up, and set her on the bed. She whimpered out of agony, and blood oozed from the side of her head. I grabbed the towel next to her bed and pressed it against the wound, praying that it looked worse than it was. "Can't you see that Kate is hurt? Go call a doctor!" Rose yelled.

"Now she cares about Kate being hurt!" Ray growled in my mind. He was pacing up and down; he was ready to spill blood.

"John, are you ignoring my request?" I asked, "Do you think the King Group is strong enough for me to turn my back on you?" John kept quiet, refusing to say anything, yet his mate heard the warning in my voice.

"You better apologize," Rose growled at John.

Kate's whimpering had quieted down, and for a second I thought she was dead.

My heart started to race, and out of worry, I pressed my ear against her chest, looking for a heartbeat.

I sighed, relieved, when I heard her heart beating strongly, and seconds later the doctor walked in.

After a series of examinations and tests, he concluded that Kate had a slight concussion, and John and Rose panicked.

Previously, when they tried to kill Kate, it caused "amnesia". What if this time it would unlock her memories?

I saw Rose wink at John, and I knew they had reached an instant agreement.

There was no way I would let Kate stay!

As soon as the doctor stepped out of the door, Rose and John stepped closer to check up on Kate like concerned parents.

Kate opened her eyes, startling John in the process, and he pretended to be happy. While wiping away tears, he thanked his ancestors for saving her.

"Uncle, what is this doing? Did something happen?" Kate asked, confused.

John looked a bit dazzled, staring at Kate like she had grown two heads.

"Kate," John hesitated before he spoke, "I overrated, and I hit you. Don't be angry at me. I want to apologize for what I have done."

"You hit me? Why?" Kate choked out. I walked closer to Kate, taking her hand in mine.

"Do you remember anything about what just happened?" I asked.

"No, not really, just that I fell and hit my head," she answered.

I frowned and called back the doctor.

The final conclusion was that Kate had temporary amnesia.

Rose pulled on John's shirt, and they stepped outside. I gestured to Kate to keep quiet while we listened to their conversation.

"I know what you are worried about," John whispered to Rose. "You are afraid that when Kate recovers her memory, she may regain her old memories as well."

"Don't you understand?" Rose replied, "I'm not afraid that she will remember what happened; I'm afraid that she never lost her memory at all, and that she has been pretending that she couldn't remember. If so, when she suddenly remembers, she will make sure to drag us down and bury us with your brother!"

Rose became quiet for a few seconds before she spoke again.

"On the other hand..." Rose said, and excitement sounded in her voice, "If we showed everyone what she really is, no one would believe her even if she told the truth. It wouldn't affect us."

I turned to Kate and scrunched my eyebrows together, asking the silent question if she knew what her aunt was planning to do, yet Kate gave me a blank expression like she didn't even know who I was.
