Hiding With Her Twin Babies -
Chapter 18
Jennie gets out of the car and sees Carl standing at the entrance. Jennie did not talk to Carl in a while, and she does not feel like talking to him ever again. Jennie knows they will have to talk sometimes about work, but she wishes she could get away from him for good. Carl makes her feel uncomfortable after what he tried, and she is not in the mood to even greet him.
“I see you and Dante are getting closer. I should have known you would go back to him as soon as you saw him again. I never stood a chance. You used me! You are not as innocent as you pretend to be, are you Jennie?” Carl says, and his voice is full of bitterness.
“Oh please, spare me! You were the one that ruined your chances with me,” Jennie says as she pushes past Carl and walks into the building. She does not have time to talk to him. The CEO of a big gaming company is waiting for her. She wants to get to the meeting as soon as possible.
“Hi babe,” Jennie hears Amber Black’s voice behind her as she walks to the board room.
“I told you not to call me babe in public,” Carl says, and he sounds irritated. His parents are not happy with him for spoiling his chances with Jennie as they all need her in this company. They are all afraid a bigger company will make her an offer she can not refuse. They do not know that Jennie has been buying stocks in the company. Stocks they are selling to maintain the lifestyle they love so much. They got used to living a life of luxury as the company grew, but money was not coming in fast enough for the Connors as they were greedy and living above their income. The shares in their company are selling for a lot of money as investors know that this company that made popular games will become one of the best in the world. Jennie bought most of the shares and is not the main shareholder in the company. The Connors were of no use to her anymore, and she only let them keep their shares and positions in the company because she felt sorry for Jack and Cathy Connor.
Jennie walks into the board room. Luckily the client is not there yet, and she can set up her whole presentation and demonstrate the new game. Jennie is happy with her work and can not wait to see the reactions of the new international company that wants to sign with them to have their game on their platforms. Finally, the door opens, and a middle-aged man and his young teenage son walk in. Jennie greets them, and she knows why the man has brought his son. It is to test the game. So she takes the boy to where the demo is set up and let him start playing the game. Jennie is clever in selling her products, and soon the boy is lost in the online game world she created.
“Well, Miss Petrov, I am impressed with your game. We want to sign with you,” The young teenager says. Jennie is surprised as she thinks his father was the man who had all the say. Finally, the young teenager stands up from where he was playing the game. He orders the middle-aged man to get the documents out of a briefcase and smiles as he sees the confusion on Jennie’s face.
“Sure. I am glad we could do business Mr Morgan,” Jennie says. Still a bit confused.
“I have my own company, Miss Petrov. My father is my guardian, and here is my bodyguard. My father let me run this company, and I got homeschooled to travel as I liked. I know I am still young, and I surprise many people, but gaming was always my passion. I love your games and would love to sign with you again. So any new releases, let me know, please,” Jason Morgan is a young genius, and he is way more clever young teenagers his age. He loves the games Jennie writes and plans to take them worldwide on all his platforms.
“I am impressed. I will let you know as soon as I am finished with another game,” Jennie says, and she walks out with the young boy and his bodyguard. What an inspiration this young man is, and she is thinking of letting Jayden and Jayda test her games. Maybe they can become like this young man one day. Jennie is happy with the deal. She got everything she wanted. He did not even question the numbers.
“Well, I would love to work with you. You are one of the best gaming programmers in the world and my inspiration. Here is my card if you ever decide to move to LA where my company is based,” The young Jason says to Jennie.
“I like staying here, in Houston as my company is doing well here, but you are welcome to come and see what I am doing, and maybe we can write a game together one day,” Jennie says. She is not willing to leave Houston yet. As soon as the young CEO and his bodyguard left, she went to her office.
“Did you sign the deal?” Jack asks as soon as he walks in. He is eager to get his hands on more money. He and Cathy like to mingle with the rich and elite of Houston, and he wants a bigger house and car.
“Yes, we signed, but the money will be transferred as soon as I get the game up and running on their platforms. You know people will be buying the game online, and we will get a cut of that money as well, but we have to stop spending so much or have money to develop our next game. Jack, what is going on with you and Cathy? When I met you back in England, you used to be like a mother and father to me, but now you act like I am only good to make money,” Jennie says, feeling hurt.
“You are here to work for us, Jennifer. Without us, you would be nothing. We hid you for eight years, and I think it is time we take out share back if you do not say and do as we want you to do,” Jack says. He is angry that Jennie can take him on like this because they spend a bit of money. He started the company. Jack forgets that if it were not for Jennie, they would still be a small company in England.
“Oh, and you were so successful you hardly survived without me,” Jennie says. She is also becoming angry now.
“That is beside the point. You owe us. We looked after you and the kids when there was no one else. Now that you have a wealthy family and boyfriend, you think you have a say in this company!” Jack shouts at Jennie.
“I do not count on them, Jack. I look after myself, and I have no boyfriend. Besides, you gave me the shares for my hard work. I will never give them back to you. You also sold many shares, which I bought, with the money I made from this company. So you are no longer in control of this company. I am,” Jennie says, and Jack looks at Jennie, defeated. He knew they should not have sold their shares, but Cathy and Carl is high maintenance, and what are they going to do now? Jennie is the boss of his company, and he knows she is the one carrying the company. Cathy heard everything, and she is also panicked. She was standing at the door. They thought Jennie would be a pushover and give them their share they gave her back. They were planning on selling more shares, and they needed the shares Jennie is holding, but know she has more shares than they do.
“I did not know you bought the shares. Why didn’t you tell me?” Jack asks, stunned.
“You were scamming behind our backs. That is why you left my poor Carl heartbroken,” Cathy says as she bursts into the office.
“Your poor Carl tried to spike my drinks and get me into a hotel room and have s*x with me without my consent,” Jennie says. She is not furious.
“He will never do something like that,” Cathy screams. After all, she planned to keep Jennie with them and get the shares back into their family.
“Well, let me make you all an offer on your remaining shares. After that, you walk out of here for good, and the company is mine. You can go back to England and live a comfortable life,” Jennie says. She names an amount, and both Jack and Cathy knows it is more than the shares are worth.
“Can we think about it?” Cathy asks.
“No, you give me an answer now. I give you the money, and you walk out of here. It is a once-off offer. You have until five to decide. I have a dinner date with my children and their father, so do not play for time. Then, if you want the deal, you will sign your shares over to me by five or else the deal is off, and you can sell your shares to someone else for less,” Jennie says. She calls her lawyer to do all the paperwork after Jack and Cathy walk out of her office. She knows they will take the deal.
It breaks Jennie’s heart to think that money can change some people so much that they will do anything to use people they are supposed to love. Jack and Cathy go to Carl and tell him what happened. Carl is furious. He wants to go to Jennie and confront her, but then he looks at his still broken fingers and decides it is not a good move. He is not brave enough to take on the Mafia, and he knows Jennie must have friends in the Mafia that is willing to protect her against anyone.
“If only you got Jennie to marry you. We would not be in this predicament. You are so useless! Carl, you should have married her a long time ago,” Cathy says.
“It was your stupid plan to spike her drink and get her into my bed that cost me her trust and my changes with her,” Carl says to his mother.
“Can the two of you shut the hell up,” Jack says. He is thinking. If they take the money and sell the shares to Jennie, they can start their own company again. Jennie is not the only programmer and video game writer out there. He is sure they can give her a go for her money, and they are in the states now.
“Don’t tell us to shut up, Jack. What are we going to do? I know it is a significant amount of money, but it won’t last as long if we want to live as we got used to,” Cathy says.
“We can start our own company and give Jennie a go for her money. We know who she is selling her games to, and I am sure we can get a younger, better programmer than her,” Jack says.
“Dad is right. We should take the money and go to LA and start there,” Carl says. He loves celebrities and would love to live in LA.
“Oh, yes, LA. I would love to stay there among the stars,” Cathy says. Jack looks at his son and wife and shakes his head. They do not know that Jennie has built up a team that has helped her with the video games’ graphics and other technical elements over the years. It takes time to get the perfect team, and there is so much more that goes into a game than just programming and writing a storyline. They knock on Jennie’s office door, and an hour later, the deal is signed, but they will have to wait for the money until the shares have been transferred to Jennie’s name before they can get their hands on the money.
Jennie is happy as she sees them going to their offices to clean them out. She walks out of the office, ensuring they can not get into any other office but their own. She does not trust them at all. Dante is waiting for Jennie as she walks out of the building, smiling. Dante can see Jennie is in a good mood, and maybe tonight, he will get the chance to tell her how he feels about her at last.
