Chapter 24

Enzo knows he is not himself. He hates his brother and is jealous. His parents taught them to love each other, and he hates feeling like that towards his brother. Yes, he thought he was in love with Jennie, but he now knows she is a timeless beauty, and he lusts after her. At dinner the previous night, he could see true love between Jennie and Dante. His hate for Dante disappeared, but he could not help feeling a bit jealous still. He wants to love like that. One-night stands are getting old, and he does not want to marry someone he does not love. He also can not forget the face of Rose, the waitress at Charlie’s Place. She smiled, but her smile never reached her eyes. She was polite, but he could see the worry in her eyes. Enzo knows people, and he knows how to sum them up. Like Dante, they know that people wear masks, and you have to look past those masks to get to the person behind the mask.

Enzo calls Charlie’s Place to book a table for the night. He hopes Rose is there tonight. He has to see her again. Enzo is a man on a mission to find his Rose, and he will. Enzo is used to getting what he wants, and he will never take no for an answer. Like the other Casella men, he is a little arrogant, but they have to be in the world they live in. Enzo looks up as Dante walks into the kitchen on the farm. Dante came to pick up some of his stuff. Then she remembers seeing him the previous night with his family in the private room.

“I am sorry, Dante. I was jealous of you, but after seeing you and Jennie together last night, I realised that you belong together and are genuinely in love. I hope to find the same passion you have for Jennie one day and a woman that loves me as Jennie loves you. I even hated you for having love that beautiful,” Enzo says to his brother.

“No need to apologise, brother. You know I will love you no matter what. You are my brother, and brothers always stand together. I saw you looking at that waitress all night,” Dante says, smiling.

“Yeah, she caught my attention. Maybe she is the one. I am hoping to see her tonight. I booked a table at Charlie’s place and will every night until she shows up for work again,” Enzo says with a smile.

“Well, what happened to Alexa?” Dante asks.

“She is in LA working in one of the clubs we own. The manager is keeping an eye on her, so she does not slip away,” Enzo says.

“Good, I do not want her close to little Jack. We are moving to LA, but she will never move in our circles unless she marries a rich person,” Dante says. Dante feels like killing Alexa. Child abuse in their family is a sensitive subject as they all know what their mother went through as a child.

“Yeah, I will keep her in her place, brother. So don’t you worry!” Enzo says.

“I am glad you are not jealous and angry at me anymore. I was also jealous, but because of the woman, I love. I do not like men to get too close to her. I will have to learn to control my jealousy. I do not want Jennie to feel like I am controlling her, and I want her to have some freedom, but how do I do that?” Dante asks Enzo. Enzo laughs.

“You are asking the wrong man. I am like you. We are warm-blooded, and I think we get it from dad,” Enzo says, still laughing.

“What are you two laughing about, and why are you like me,” Logan asks, walking into the kitchen.

“Well, we were wondering how we keep our jealousy intact when it comes to women we love,” Dante says.

“You think I am jealous of your mom?” Logan asks.

“We know you are. We can see the way you act when another man looks at mom, dad,” Dante says.

“Yeah, it is something you have to learn over time. In the beginning, I was the worst. No man could look at your mother without me wanting to kill him, but I learned to trust her,” Logan says.

“Well, mom is kick-a*s. She will do anything to protect her children and grandchildren and, of course, you, dad,” Enzo says.

“Yeah, I did not know that at the beginning of our relationship. I tricked her into becoming my fiance. You know our story,” Logan says with a smile.

“Yeah, and I still think it is very romantic,” Mabel says as she walks into the kitchen. Soon all the Casella’s are in the kitchen talking. Dante tells them about Rose and Enzo’s interest in her. So, naturally, everyone wants to help Enzo find Rose.

“I will let you all know if I need your help finding Rose,” Enzo says.

“Yeah, call if you need help. You know the Casellas are always ready to help each other,” Angelica says.

“We got Dante to admit his love for Jennie,” Jen says.

“Hey, I tried a lot of times and every time, I got interrupted by one of you, or something happening,” Dante says. The family joke around a bit.

“You can sleep in my house. I moved in with Jennie and the children for now. Besides, I will propose to her, but I will do it in the Maldives. What do you all think? Will it be romantic or not?” Dante asks his family’s opinion.

“That will be wonderful,” Mabel says, and the rest agree.

“We are also moving to LA. Her company’s biggest client is situated there, and I want her and the children near me,” Dante says.

“Well, in that case, we are moving back to LA as well. I want to be near my grandchildren,” Jen says, and Logan can only shake his head. Whatever Jen wants, Jen gets. They joke around and talk for a while longer before they all go their separate ways.

Enzo is early for his appointment at Charlie’s Place that night, and he waits at the bar for his table. He looks around, but there is no sign of Rose. He is feeling a bit defeated. As one of the waiters walks past him, Enzo calls him and ask him if Rose is working tonight.

“Yes, sir, but she but her shift is starting later. So this week, it is her turn to work the late shift,” The waiter informs him and looks funny at Enzo. Enzo does not care how the waiter looks at him since he only wants to see Rose again and make sure she still makes the same impression on him.

“Thank you,” Enzo says and gives the waiter a big tip. The waiter does not know what he has done to deserve it, but he is not complaining as he has to pay for books for his studies.

“Thank you, sir,” The waiter says as he walks away happy.

Enzo waits a few minutes, and then the waiter comes and tells him his table is ready. Enzo has waited for his table for a long time, and he knows Rose must be on duty by now. Enzo has booked the table for the whole night until closing time, and he is glad he did it as it gives him a chance to see Rose. He waits at his table when he hears a waitress asking him if he wants something to drink. Enzo looks up and is disappointed when it is not Rose. Then he sees Rose waiting at another table, and he looks at his waitress.

“I will give you five hundred dollars if you change tables with Rose,” He says. The waitress is speechless, but she needs the money as she and her husband get ready to have their first child.

“I will do that for you for free, sir. Five hundred dollars is a lot of money,” The waitress says and does not want to take the money at first, but Enzo puts the cash in her hand and smiles. He can see she needs the money but does not want to admit it. She smiles at him and walks over to Rose.

“Can you take one of my tables, Rose? I feel so tired tonight,” Loana asks Rose. Rose knows Leona is pregnant, and she is always helpful.

“Sure, which one?” Rose asks.

“Enzo Hudson’s table, please. You know how demanding the rich can be,” Leona lies. She feels lousy lying to Rose, but it is evident that Enzo Hudson is having feelings for Rose, and maybe Rose can catch a break in life and get a wealthy husband. She prays she made the right decision tonight and does not let Rose become a plaything of the wealthy business tycoon.

“Sure, do not worry,” Rose says and walks over to Enzo’s table. Her beauty and petite figure still impress Enzo. Enzo stares at her for a while before ordering a whiskey on the rocks. Rose can not help but feel uncomfortable as Enzo stares at her. Did she do something wrong? Does he know her from somewhere? Rose remembers seeing him with his family in the private room the night before. Finally, she walks away to get his whiskey, and she must admit to herself that he is handsome. Enzo is not disappointed. Rose is everything he remembers, and she intrigues him. However, she has sadness on her face. The mask behind the friendly smile can not hide. Enzo knows people and knows when people have suffered a lot in life. Sometimes he can see the same sadness on his mother’s face when she is not aware someone is watching her. Only when his father is around that his mother is extremely happy. He knows his father is the anger in his mother’s life, and he wants to be the anger in someone’s life. He wants to love as his parents love each other.

“Your whiskey, sir,” Rose says as she puts the whiskey in front of Enzo.

“Thank you, Rose,” Enzo says, pretending to read her name tag. He does not want to scare her away, and he instinctively knows he will have to work very carefully with Rose. She is like a rose. You will have to handle her with care and make sure to trim away all those dead leaves that the winter in her heart left behind.

“Do you want to order, sir?” Rose asks.

“Yes, bring me the snails with garlic bread as a starter,” Enzo says, smiling at Rose.

“Will be right up, sir,” Rose says.

“Enzo,” Enzo says.

“Sorry, sir?” Rose asks, confused.

“My name is Enzo, and you can call me that,” Enzo says.

“As you please, sir. Ummm, I mean Enzo,” Rose says. They learn that the customer is always right, and you do as the customer wants you to do.

“Anything to drink with that, Enzo?” Rose asks, and it feels a bit odd for her to call a customer by his name. Usually, the waiters are treated like furniture by the wealthy that eat here. They are only suitable for serving the customers, and they do not interact with them.

“Bring me another whiskey on the rocks,” Enzo says.

“It will be right up, Enzo,” Rose says as she walks away.

It does not take long before she is back with his starter and whiskey, and she puts it down in front of Enzo.

“I hope you enjoy it, Enzo,” Rose says as she walks away. Enzo looks at Rose as she walks away and wonders what her story is. He has to find out, as this petite girl is driving him nuts.

The rest of the night, Enzo orders a steak and pudding. Enzo never eats pudding, but tonight he wants to make her use to him. He will come back every night she is on duty. He leaves Rosa a massive tip, and she can not believe her luck. It is enough for her to survive a whole month! She wants to share with Leona, but Leona refuses and says she also made good tips that night. Enzo lets his men follow Rosa, knowing where she is staying. Suppose he does not see her again at Charlie’s Place. One never knows when she changes jobs. Enzo knows he has found the one woman that softens his heart, and he is not about to let her slip through his fingers.
