Hiding With Her Twin Babies -
Chapter 25
At the end of the night, Rose sighs. She has to go home, and she is not looking forwards to it. She and her little sister Tammy stay with her wealthy sister, Hanna, and Hanna’s husband, Larson. Not in the house, though. No, Rose has to work as a housekeeper for the outdoor rooms she and Tammy are staying in. She knows the wealthy couple will have something to complain about when she gets home. They always do as they do not have children, and Tammy is a thorn in their side. Rose has to work at Charlie’s place to buy her little sister clothing, and she is saving up to move out of her sister’s house. She is also studying while working two jobs. Rose is studying graphic design. She dreams of working for a big company one day, and her dream is to work with someone like Jennie Petrov. She knows Enzo must know Jennie Petrov as she is his soon-to-be sister-in-law. Maybe he can help her. However, Rose knows it is only a dream, and she forgets about it as she gets on the bus. Why would a man like Enzo Hudson help a nobody like her?
Rose is so deep in thought she does not see the men following her. When the bus stops at the place she always gets off, she walks to the big mansion and enters the back gate where the servants always enter. Rose goes to the room she and Tammy are sharing, still not aware of the two men following her. She sees her little sister Tammy sitting in a bundle on her bed. She knew Hanna or Larson must have said or done something to Tammy again. She walks over to where Tammy sits on her bed, holding the only doll she has. It was the doll her parents gave her before they died in a car accident.
“What is wrong, sweetie?” Rose asks Tammy.
“Aunt Hanna said we are only a burden to them,” Tammy says. She is six years old and was only two when their parents died. Rose was just out of school and was going to study full time. Tammy was a surprise to the whole family, as their parents never expected to have a child that late in life. Hanna was embarrassed by her mother getting pregnant and wanted nothing to do with Tammy. She hated Tammy as she saw her as an embarrassment when her then wealthy boyfriend, Larson Marks, came to visit. When Larson and Hanna got married, Hanna did not invite her family. When their parents died, she only took in Rose and Tammy as they had nowhere to go. Hanna told Rose and Tammy that they are only the housekeeper and her daughter living there, and she does not want her wealthy friends to know that they are her sisters. Rose had no choice, and she took her little sister under her wing. She looks after Tammy and provides for her.
“What else did she say,” Rose asks, as she knows Hanna by now, and she knows Hanna has a lot to say when it comes to Tammy.
“She said I was a freak and should have never been born,” Tammy says.
“Listen to me, honey. You are not a freak. I love you, and that is all that matters. It is you and me against the world,” Rose says. She starts tickling her little sister, and Tammy starts to giggle.
“I will never forsake you, Tams. I will always be there for you, and you must remember that. I am almost done with my studies, then we will move and find a place of our own,” Rose promises her little sister.
“What if you get married and do not want me anymore? I will be a burden to you,” Tammy says.
“I will never marry anyone that does not want my little sister around,” Rose promises Tammy again. Finally, Tammy looks better, and soon she falls asleep. Rose sighs. She wishes she could tell Hanna to take her bloody room and stick it up her a*s. At least Tammy gets food, although the cook smuggles the leftovers out to them from the house. Sometimes Rose gets leftovers from the restaurant as well, then she and Tammy eat like queens.
Rose is staying for her final exams. Her studies took her longer as there were months she had to put her studies on hold to take care of her little sister. As a result, she studies late and falls asleep on the little table she uses as a desk. Her parents bought Rose a high-end PC and spent a lot of money on it as she needed it for her studies. She hopes it pays off one day. Unfortunately, her parents were middle-class, and they had not much money when they died. So the debtors took most of their belongings. Luckily, her PC was in her dorm room, and the debtors did not take it as it was her property anyway. It is the last thing her parents bought her, and although it is a little outdated now, it still serves its purpose. The weeks go by fast, and every night, Enzo goes to Charlie’s Place to see his Rose as he thinks of her. Unfortunately, Rose did not show up for a couple of days, and he was informed by one of his waiters that she was busy with her final exams at university. He misses seeing her, but at least he knows where she is staying. While busy with her exams, Enzo has to fly to LA to take care of business. He will be back for her, and when he comes back, he will help her get a better job in LA and tell her that he has fallen in love with her. He hopes he stands a chance. He could not imagine a life without seeing Rose every day.
Jennie is sitting in her office. She knows when she moves to LA, she will need more staff, and she contacts the local university and the department of graphic design and other tech departments. She knows good students are not plentiful. The professor in charge of the computer science department gave her a name straight away. Rosemary Taylor. He emails all her achievements to Jennie and a recommendation letter. Jennie is impressed by what she sees and asks the professor when Rosemary writes her last exams. She wants to be there when it happens, as she wants to grab Rosemary before anyone else. Jennie knows how hard it is to get a student like Rosemary to work at your company, as companies will stand in line to get her. So, when the day of Rosemary’s graduation arrives, Jennie is at the university and waiting to see Rosemary in the professor’s office. He has arranged for Rosemary to be there.
Rose walks into the professor’s office, not knowing what to expect. She is scared she did something wrong, and while she waits for the secretary to call her into his office, Rose stresses. Rose graduated today, and she can not think of anything she did that could strip her of her degree, but one never knows. She is glad the years of study are finally over. It will save her a lot of money, and she can hopefully get a better job now and does not have to stay with her sister and brother-in-law any more. She and Tams will be free at last and can move wherever they want. Finally, the secretary calls her and she gets up and walks into the professor’s office. Her eyes almost pop out of her sockets as she sees Jennie Petrov sitting in the professor’s office. Jennie is her idol. She revolutionized the gaming world with her games.
“Hello Rosemary, I want you to meet Jennie Petrov,” Professor Smith says.
“Hi Rosemary, it is a great pleasure to meet you at last,” Jennie says as she gets up and shakes Rose’s shaky hand.
“Hi, Miss Petrov. It is an honour to meet you,” Rose says.
“Well, the honour is mine. I am so impressed with your achievements at university, and Professor Smith told me that you had to take breaks from your studies for personal reasons. So I am here to make you an offer. I want you to come and work for me,” Jennie says.
“Really? It is a dream come true for me. I am a big fan of yours, and I would love to work with you,” Rose says. She still can not believe her luck.
“You will have to move to LA, though. We have already started our operations there, and most of my team has already settled there. However, my family and I will be moving to LA this weekend since it is now the school holidays, and I want my children to start school in LA as soon as possible,” Jennie explains.
“I can start tomorrow and move to LA as soon as you want me to,” Rose says. She also wants to move Tams into a school there as soon as possible. Where will they stay? Jennie can tell Rose does not have much money by looking at Rose’s clothing. She feels sorry for the young woman.
“You will get an apartment, and I will give you an advance on your money to cover all the cost of moving to LA,” Jennie says. She names the salary, and Rose has to pinch herself to ensure she is not asleep and dreaming. Rose thinks of Enzo, who visits Charlie’s Place every night. She missed him the last couple of days when she was busy with exams, and she knows she will miss him, but he is way out of her league, and it will be better if she forgets about Enzo Hudson.
“You can not have everything you dream of, Rosemary Tylor. Some things are just too far beyond your reach,” Rose says to herself in her head. Jennie and Rosemary talk more, and Jennie finds out about her sister. Jennie tells her about the after-school program for employees with dependents, and Rose is over the moon. Finally, she can tell Hanna and her husband to fly! Jennie arranges Rose’s plane tickets for her and Tammy and arranges that someone picks them up at the airport. The apartment Jennie has arranged for Rose is fully furnished, and they are flying out at ten tomorrow morning.
“Rosemary, I am sorry I am pushing you like this, but I need you in LA as soon as possible. Can you arrange everything in time to be ready to fly tomorrow, or do I have to give you a few days?” Jennie asks Rose.
“No, I am ready to go, and I can not wait to start my new job,” Rose answers. However, she is afraid Jennie will change her mind and give this opportunity to someone else. Jennie smiles and shakes Rose’s hand. She asks if she can take Rose home, but Rose refuses. Instead, she wants to go and buy her and Tammy some clothes. Jennie also asks for Rose’s bank details to transfer and advance into Rose’s bank account to cover any other costs she may have. Jennie and Rosemary, as Jennie knows her, become friends in a short while. Finally, they depart, and Professor Smith smiles happily. If one person deserves to be given a chance in life, it is Rosemary Taylor.
Jennie is unaware that she is taking Enzo’s love of his life from him, and she is happy with her choice. However, she knows what Rosemary is going through as she also had to work and look after two children. In addition, she had to work for her degree, and she had to work to support her children. Rose goes shopping and buys two suitcases and a few outfits for her and Tammy. She can not wait to get home and tell Tams they will move out tonight. They will stay at a cheap hotel near the airport to be on time for their flight. She hears Hanna shouting at Tammy as she walks into their little room.
“You are useless and mean nothing to anybody. You and your sister are a burden I have to carry for the rest of my life. You should not even have been born!” Hanna shouts.
“That is enough. You can take your stupid little room, and Tammy and I will leave at once,” Rose says. Hanna spins around and laughs.
“Where will the two of you go? You have nowhere to go, and you need to clean the kitchen. I have guests coming for dinner,” Hanna says.
“Go clean your kitchen. You are no longer our sister, and you treated us like your slaves for long enough. Tammy starts packing. We are going,” Rose says. Tammy does not let Rose tell her twice. She starts packing the few pieces of clothing and stuff she has. Tammy can not wait to leave this place for good. Hanna stops laughing as she sees Rose is serious.
“Where are you going?” She demands to know.
“None of your business. We will be no burden to you or your stupid husband. Good luck in life,” Rose says, and she grabs her PC last. The taxi is waiting outside, and the driver helps them load all their stuff into the cab’s trunk. Hanna can only look on as Rose and Tammy drive away. Who is going to clean and cook for her guests tonight?
