Chapter 17

Bethany

“Everyone please welcome the new Alpha of the moonshine pack, Alpha Marcus Thompson!” Elder Murry has just finished officially announcing Marcus as Alpha and the room is swarming with cheers and howls.

Marcus is standing tall and proud on the stage and I suddenly notice how much he’s changed since I last saw him, his usual long black hair has been cut very short to his head, his once cheerful brown eyes now look dangerous and scary while his height of 6ft 4 and his increase in body muscle leaves me feeling nervous, he’s defiantly not the Marcus I knew based on appearance

“Thank you, everyone, for your kind support and for attending my ceremony tonight, I really do appreciate it. It has been a hard time recently for myself after the devastating loss of my pack including my own family but I will do everything I can to make them all proud and to be the best Alpha possible to my pack members as we work together to rebuild the moonshine pack.”

”With this in mind, I have made my decision on my Beta and Gamma so before we go any further, John Richards and Thomas Randle would you both please accompany me on the stage?”

Two guys stand up from the table next to us, they are big guys but not as big as your standard Beta and Gamma but then again Marcus isn’t as big as an Alpha should be. The first guy walks onto the stage, he’s tall around 6ft, he’s got short blonde hair and big green eyes, Farley muscular, and his arms are covered in tattoos.

“John Richards, do you accept the position as the Beta of the moonshine pack?”

“Yes, I do,”

“From this day forward do you swear your loyalty to me as your Alpha and to this pack?”

“I do,”

“From this day forward do you swear to do whatever it takes to protect this pack even if that means giving up your life?”

“I do,”

“From this day forward do you swear to fulfill your duties as Beta to the moonshine pack to the best of your ability?”

“I do,”

“Let’s all hear it for the new Beta of the moonshine pack John Richards!” Marcus bellows out across the crowd while everyone cheers and whistles out to him. Marcus then calls the second guy onto the stage his shoulder-length black hair is tied back in a bobble, his eyes are a light brown and go well with his tanned skin tone, he’s muscular but not as big as John but still fairly big.

Marcus repeats the same conversation with Thomas only this time he’s announcing him as the new Gamma and again everyone goes wild for them. Once all the formalities are out of the way and they have sat back down the music starts up and the party begins.

“May I have this dance angel?” I look to where the voice is coming from and standing there is a seriously tall guy, his jet black hair is hanging down past his waist and his dark grey eyes stare at me giving me the creeps!

“Leave her alone Dexter!” Marcus speaks up before I can even form words and I’m seriously grateful.

“Ahh come on man don’t be like that, I only want to dance with this little hottie that’s all!”

“I’d apricate you not calling my 15-year-old sister a hottie thankyou!” Calvin comes to stand beside my chair and I’ve never been so relieved in all my life, that guy is seriously creeping me out! The guy must recognize Calvin because he instantly bows his head, gives his apologies, and walks away without saying another word to me.

“Come on sweetheart, your sister wants to see you.” He holds out his hand for me, and I’m quick to follow him back to his table.

“Thank you, Cal, I don’t like the look of that guy.”

“No need to thank me, Bethany, you’re my sister, and I’ll always be there to protect you!” I give him a grateful smile as we arrive at the table, there’s an empty seat in between Liam and Brooke so I blonk my bum there and listen to their current conversation about how they all feel Marcus will fare as an Alpha.

“I don’t trust him and I certainly won’t be involving our pack in any business deals with him or his pack!” Calvin’s words leave no room for argument and everyone at the table is quick to agree.

“It’s so strange to think of him killing the entire pack!” I voice out without even realizing it.

“What do you mean sweetheart?” I love how Calvin can go from serious and pissed off to calm and gentle within seconds.

“Well, we were pretty close before the attack with me being Carly’s best friend, and tonight while I’ve been sat at the table, he’s been that same Marcus that I knew before all this happened.

I know he did it because Mrs Thompson would never make that up about her own son, she loved her kids more than her own life and she had no reason to lie and also her story has been proven with his auctions but talking to him tonight has made me doubt him having a motive towards me and Bella, he’s been really nice to me!”

“Don’t let him fool you little wolf, he’s got a plan and we will find out soon enough what it is!” Liam sounds angry when he talks to me and it’s just making me even more confused. Does he have a plan? Does he not? All I know right now is I’m confused to hell and can feel the start of a migraine coming on.

Beta Liam

Tonight has been strange, Marcus has thrown a very nice event but I still don’t trust him. There’s no way Bethany not having a seat at our table was an accident, when I had to watch her walk away with him, I was seriously pissed and throughout the meal, while I had watched them laughing and joking together all I wanted to do was go over and rip his head off!

Thankfully once she was able to come back over the seat next to me was the only empty one and having her sitting next to me was seriously calming for both me and Jonah and believe me when I tell you we needed it.

On top of trying to control myself around Marcus I’ve had Sarah trying to hang off my arm all night, of all the seats here, hers had to be right next to me and she has not left me alone all night, talk of the devil and she soon appears.

Sarah: “Hmm Beth you’re in my seat!”

Beth: “Oh sorry Sarah I didn’t realize; it was empty when I came over.”

Sarah: “Well I went to the bathroom; it doesn’t mean I was finished with sitting here mind!” her hand goes to her h*p as her attitude spikes.

Warrior Richard: “Take Hailey’s seat Sarah it’s fine!” He tells her as he grabs Hailey by the h**s and sets her in his lap.

Sarah: “That’s not my seat though, this one is!” This girl is a serious pain in the a*s!

Hailey: “What does it matter? There’s an empty seat there for you Sarah so problem solved!”

Sarah: “I want my seat! Beth, you can move to that seat now!” She is seriously starting to piss me off talking to my girl the way she is.

Hailey: “It’s not the seat you want, it’s to be next to Liam!” She rolls her eyes while most of the table is quick to agree, I look towards Beth and she looks sad s**t, I hope she doesn’t think anything is going on between me and Sarah. I need to shut this s**t down now! Beth goes to stand up, I assume to move seats but I quickly grab her arm and keep her in the chair.

“Just sit in the f*****g empty chair Sarah or if you’re not happy, go find somewhere else to sit!” I make sure that my words are firm and I don’t know if it’s my imagination or wishful thinking but I swear I see Bethany relax once I’ve put Sarah back in her place.

Sarah gives off a small wine before muttering something about getting a drink as she quickly leaves the table while everyone else starts laughing amongst themselves.

It’s almost 2 am and I am f****d! Because of the long drive Marcus or should I say Alpha Marcus arranged for us to stay overnight and we will leave straight after breakfast in the morning, the sooner we are out of here the better as far as I’m concerned.

Most of our pack that came here have already gone to bed and the last few of us are huddled around our table chatting away like cockle women.

Within 30 minutes we have all reached our peak and decide to head to bed. My eyes catch Marcus making his way towards our table and I already know I’m going to hate whatever he says.

“I’d just like to thank you all again for taking the time to come here this evening, now obviously I wasn’t aware of Beth joining you this evening so I haven’t got a room arranged for her but it’s no problem, she can come up to my floor and sleep in one of my guest rooms!” Can she f**k, she ain’t going anywhere with him on her own, nope! not happening!

“That’s a very kind offer Alpha Marcus but Beth will be staying with me and Brooke.” Calvin speaks firm but friendly “I’m sure you can understand.” He nods agreeing before storming off looking pissed off, and it’s not sitting well with me.

“I don’t mind staying on Marcus’s floor Brooke, I don’t want to put you or Cal out.” Beth is being genuine but it ain’t happening.

“Don’t be silly you’re not putting anyone out sweetheart!” Comes Luna’s soothing voice, I know she and Cal are thinking the same as me, and I’d bet my last dollar that Beth is also thinking the same but as usual, she will put everyone else before herself.

“It’s fine Beth honestly, besides I’m bunking in with Liam for the night, which means you and Brooke get some time alone, we all know girls love bonding time with each other, especially you two!” He rolls his eyes as he finishes talking and I can’t help but laugh.

“Are you sure you don’t mind Liam because I’d hate to put anyone out?” Her eyes sparkle as she talks to me and it takes everything I have not to get lost in them, I swear the longer time goes on the harder this s**t gets!

“Of course, I don’t mind my little wolf, it’s been way too long since I’ve had the honor of Cal’s snoring and farting for a full night!” He tries to foreign hurt but it soon turns into him agreeing with me and everyone at the table laughing until our ribs hurt.

Before long we all bid each other goodnight and head for our rooms, Cal and I walk Beth and Brooke to their room and make sure they lock the door before we go into the room next to theirs. we both nose dive the bed and we’re sleeping before we can even murmur one word.

Future Luna Brooke

I slowly start waking up stretching my tired limbs, I don’t know what time it is but me and Beth stayed up until gone 4 gossiping and

I loved it. We used to sleep in each other’s rooms and gossip about everything often before I moved away and I miss that.

Once I’ve finally peeled open my eyes, I check the time on the small clock on the sideboard 6.35 am I’ve had about 2 hours of sleep, why the f**k am I awake? I turn over to go back to sleep and notice the beds empty, that’s strange as there’s no way Beth would be up after 2 hours of sleep.

I call out to her but there’s no answer so I decided to check the bathroom just in case she’s not feeling well, I knock on the door but no answer so I slowly open the door, the room is empty she’s not in there.

I check the closet next but again nothing, I look around the room and notice her phone is on the bedside table, there’s no way she’d go far without her phone, she’s a teenager so there for her phone is her life and she’s not officially a member of the pack yet so I can’t mind-link her.

I decide to go check the house quickly just in case she went looking for something and got lost maybe? I run to my bag and throw on some jeans and a tee-shirt quickly and leave the bedroom. I make my way along the landing, down the stairs, and in the first room I see, it’s the kitchen, and it’s empty, lounge room next and again it’s empty.

I search every room there is but I can’t find her anywhere, I start walking towards the front door hoping she is outside but the sinking feeling in my stomach is telling me different.

My walking quickly turns into running and I’m outside in seconds. I look around the panic fastly rising inside me but there’s nothing, there’s no one here, no guards, no wolves, and no Beth.

I turn to leave to go and make sure she hasn’t turned up back in the bedroom when something catches my eye on the floor at the bottom of the concrete steps, I bend down to see what it is and the minute I recognize it my heart stops, oh my goddess no!
