Bethany

I quickly make my way to the lake, I love this place, the view, the peace it always helps settle me but not today, today it’s just reminding me of all the times I’ve been here with Liam and it hurts. f**k my teenage hormones!

“Hey, pretty lady!” I don’t need to look up to know it’s Ashley he’s the only one here that calls me that well me, Brooke and Bella actually.

“Hey, Ash, how are you feeling now?”

“Like I’ve done 17 rounds with Alpha and lost every single one!” A chuckle escapes my mouth at his dramatics before I’m pulled down to earth by this heavy feeling that I’ve had in my chest since Liam introduced us to his mate.

“What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours huh?” He sits down next to me nudging my arm on his way down. I decide at that moment to tell Ashley everything I’ve been thinking and feeling about Liam since I meet him because if I don’t tell someone soon, I’m going to lose my s**t, even more so after this morning.

“Well, I didn’t see that one coming, but I get it, Liam is one fine piece of tail and the fucker even has the perfect personality to match, you won’t be the first teenager to crush on him or the last and I know this is hurting you but you will be ok I promise you that everything will work out as it should!”

“As much as I want to argue that this is more, I know underneath that this is just a teenage crush, it has to be. But if this is what a destroyed teenage crush feels like then I don’t ever want to find my mate, I couldn’t bear the heartache if things didn’t work out or if I was rejected!” Ashley looks to be sad for a moment but then a look spreads across his face that I can’t make out before he stands up and pulls me up with him.

“Do you trust me, Bethany?” Wow, he just called me Bethany, now I know he’s being serious.

“Of course, I do Ash!”

“Then please trust me when I say everything will be ok, this will work out just as it’s supposed to and when your 18 you will be blessed with the perfect mate and all this will be a distant memory!” He looks so confident when he speaks that it’s hard not to believe in what he says. I give him a nod just before he grabs my hand and starts walking me back towards the packhouse.

“Ashley, can you do something for me?”

“Anything baby doll!” and he’s back!

“Can you keep this a secret, please? It’s a crush that will go away soon enough now that Liam’s got his mate and I don’t want anyone laughing at me for thinking anything different.” I’m already embarrassed by myself.

“You got it doll, it’s our secret!” He gives my hand a gentle squeeze before carrying on with pulling me towards home…. towards them and we reach the house just as Jack comes out of the front door.

“Hey Beth, I was just going to link you, it’s time for training.”

“I don’t feel like training today sorry Jack, I think I’ll give it a miss.” The look on his face tells me different.

“Absolutely, not missy, nope not happening, let’s go!” He takes my hand that’s in Ashley’s hold and starts pulling me along as we say our goodbyes to Ashley and head for training, I guess if I can’t be sad then kicking someone’s a*s is the next best thing.

Alpha Calvin

Ashley linked me about an hour ago letting me know he needed to see me and Brooke once Jack was done with training and thankfully, he’s just finished and ready to meet because I fear Brooke is going to wear a hole in the carpet if she doesn’t sit down soon.

“*Knock knock**

“Come in!” Jack and Ashley step inside our lounge, quickly sit down, and finally, my girl comes and sits in my lap, the only place she should ever sit if you ask me.

“So, Ashley what’s going on?”

“I spoke with Beth earlier and…and… look she asked me to keep this a secret but let’s be honest we’re already keeping the biggest secret from her Anyway, I think you guys should know as she’s going to need watching over for a while but it has to be kept a secret, promise?”

We all quickly agree and he wastes no time in filling us in on his conversation with Beth and while Jack and I are clearly shocked, my girl doesn’t seem that surprised, I give her a look and she’s soon spilling out her thoughts.

“I’ve been watching her the past couple of weeks and I’ve had a feeling she had a crush on him, I didn’t see a reason to try and talk to her about it or talk her out of it because we all know how it’s going to work out anyway.” Her face is covered in the saddest look as she finishes talking and it breaks my heart.

“Where is she now?” I don’t want her alone right now.

“She’s with a couple of the teenagers in the games room, she’s ok!” Ashley quickly answers.

“Ok, I’m going to link Liam now and have him come here for Beta business and we’ll see what we can try and figure out.”

“Liam where are you?”

“I’m on my floor Alpha everything ok?”

“Can you come up to my lounge, please? I need your help with something.”

“Of course, Alpha be right up!” He’s talking to me way too formally and it only increases my suspicions. Within 5 minutes there’s a knock on the door I holla out for him to come in and Sarah follows her arm secured around his as if her life depends on it.

“Hey, guys, what’s going on?” He sits in the chair across from me and Sarah slides onto his lap smiling wide for all to see.

“We wanted to discuss the Jacoby situation with you, Liam, we were wondering when you thought the right time would be to tell Beth?”

“Nicely done brother, nicely done!” Jack links me and I’m just grateful I could think fast, truth is I didn’t have a plan but I also didn’t expect Sarah to come here with him either.

“Whenever you want to Alpha, that’s a decision for you, not me.” He’s talking formal and rigid and I’m starting to get f****d off!

“And you’re sure that you’ll still be fine with whatever her decision is?”

“Of course, Alpha, it’s not anything to do with me but she’s my Luna’s sister and she always has my protection. What the f**k?

“Speaking of Beth, we need to get her tuition paid for school too!” Brooke blurts out and I know she’s trying to get a reaction out of him.

“You got a place at the school for her?”

“Please tell me he didn’t just ask that question?” Jack links me discreetly.

“He did man he did!” I can’t believe it myself.

“Oh, and lastly when do you want to build the memorial with Beth Liam?” He looks at me with a blank face and I can see the guys and Brooke are just as lost as me right now.

“What was the memorial for again Alpha? I’ve forgotten!” HOLY f**k! I tell him that I’ll update him on it later as I have to get ready to help my dad out with something but the truth is I need time to try and figure this s**t out. The guys get ready to leave, I’ve already linked Jack telling them both to meet me at my parent’s house, and Brooke’s linked Liam’s parents too.

“We need to discuss my ceremony!” I’m stopped in my tracks by a high-pitched voice and quickly realize it’s Sarah and she’s talking to me.

“What ceremony?” I play dull but I already know what she’s going to say.

“My ceremony to announce my title as Beta female to this pack.” I knew it. Is she f*****g serious?

“She isn’t the Beta female to our pack and she never will be!” Brooke’s pissed voice shoots through our link and I can feel the anger in her body through our bond.

“she’s not the Beta female to this pack now nor will she ever be baby don’t you worry about that, there’s definitely something going on here!” She gives me a small smile and I feel her slightly relax.

“Hmm, Sarah, the only person that gets a ceremony is the Luna, everyone else’s mates get introduced to the pack whichever way they choose.”

“And I choose a ceremony!” Her tone is demanding while she stares at me, who the f**k does she think she is? I don’t give a f**k what her rank is I am her Alpha and she’s trying to disrespect me! I go to speak but Liam beats me to it.

“Sarah, we will arrange your announcement don’t worry but you’re being disrespectful to the Alpha right now and you can’t do that!” She looks at me and apologies but it’s the most pathetic apology I have ever heard in my life but I choose to let this one slide, I’d

rather focus my attention on Liam right now but she won’t get away with that again.

Ashley and Jack make their way towards the door and Liam and Sarah soon follow, we give it a few minutes before me and Brooke head to my parent’s house to meet everyone else and update them. We arrive there within a few minutes and thankfully everyone is there waiting for us. I quickly update the parents on the conversation we had with Liam and they are speechless, to be honest, we all are.

“He doesn’t remember anything does he Cal?” Ashley is the first to break the silence, worry covering his face.

“It looks that way, but he’s only forgotten the stuff involving Bethany. He knew who we were and he knew about Jacoby but it seems that when it comes to Bethany, he only remembers her as his Luna’s sister.”

“What are we going to do?” Mary chokes out the words while fighting back her tears and it breaks my heart, she’s always been my second mom and I hate seeing her upset.

“I don’t know Mary but I promise you we will figure this out!” She nods my way with a gentle smile but I see the pain behind her eyes and I wish I could tell her more but I’m as lost as everyone else right now.

“You said that Sarah seems very eager to have a ceremony, to be announced as Beta female and to make it a big deal?” Joseph Liam’s father asks me.

“Yes, that’s right!”

“Ok and obviously we already know that Sarah can’t be his mate, not his first anyway and he wouldn’t meet his second not until his first one is dead or he got rejected so there has to be more to this!” I can see joseph’s mind working overtime when out of nowhere Ashley literally jumps up from Jack’s lap.

“This could be a long shoot but knowing what we know so far…”Ashley seems to hesitate which isn’t like him.

“What is it, baby?” Jack gives him an encouraging look and it seems to do the trick.

“What if a witch is involved? We all know how Sarah has been basically stalking Liam since she turned 18 and now all of a sudden,

she is magically his mate and he can’t remember s**t about Beth being his mate, it doesn’t make sense. He remembers everything else but can’t remember a thing about their bond, that doesn’t make sense to me!”

Hearing him say it all out loud suddenly makes it all more clear to me.

“You could be on to something their Ash, why didn’t I think of that? Does anyone here know a witch?”

“I do, I needed help from one when I was Alpha before you were born son, she’s a good witch and I know she will help us if she can!” My dad speaks quickly and I’m just thankful that he can help.

He lets me know he’ll contact her straight away before everyone leaves the room until there’s only me and Jack left. We start talking

through everything that we know so far and what we can do next when I feel a mind link coming through, It’s Ryan one of my top warriors and he sounds pissed.

“Alpha sorry to disturb you but I’ve just had a link of Wilson, they’ve just had a wolf turn up at the borders, he looks like he’s been beaten pretty bad and he’s asked for you.”

“Who is he?”

“It’s Jacoby cooper, Alpha.”
