Chapter 63

Beta Liam

2 days have passed since the last attack and finally, it’s starting to look like he’s run out of Rogues. Of course, Alpha John won’t let his guard down until the Beta has been caught and killed, he can’t just let him off when there’s a chance he will return again.

My girl is 18 tomorrow and I’m so excited I feel like a 5-year-old waiting for Santa to come on Christmas eve. Just one more day without her at my side, f**k when I look back over the last 3 years I honestly don’t know how the f**k I’ve done this, but one thing is for sure, I’ve got a s**t load more control than I ever thought possible!

I’ve sent my men back to the pack ready for the ball tomorrow, it’s an annual ball to help wolves find their mates. Each year a different pack organises the ball on a date announced by the elders and this year it just so happens to fall on our pack to organise it and on Beth’s birthday.

I want to make tomorrow as special as possible for my girl, including her finding out we are mates, and finally, after a lot of long conversations with Ashley, Jack and Cal I have a plan in place and Ashley is meeting me in town soon to help me get everything I need.

I’m going to arrive back home later tonight and hide out in my room so she doesn’t know I’m there, then I’ve decided to create a birthday treasure hunt for her spreading over the packhouse and grounds that will lead her to the biggest lake we have on the parklands, the lake we have spend a lot of time together at.

There she will find a picnic waiting for her and her mate but of course, for me to stay out of the way I need help, a lot of help setting everything up and for once I’ve never been more grateful for Ashley and his organising folder.

I pull up outside the shopping mall and he’s already waiting for me and Brooke and Cami have joined him. The moment I reach them I scoop Cami up and have her giggling in seconds. She’s Brooke and Cal’s daughter, almost 7 months old and cute as a button.

“I’ve missed your laugh miss Cami!” I’m rewarded with her toothy grin and as always that smile melts my heart.

“And what about us?” Ashley’s fake pout has both me and Brooke joining in with Cami’s laughing.

“I’ve missed you all to don’t worry even though I have seen you!”

“But still, who have you missed the most?” He presses out, I love this guy he and Jack may have got married last year but he’ll never change thank f**k!

“You of course beautiful!”

“I should think so too!” He shoots me a wink and we quickly head inside to make a start on my list, there’s a lot to get done in little time. Cal and Jack are back at the house checking through last minutes details for the ball and they’ve got Beth and Katie watching Levi, Willow and Bella to keep Beth busy!

3 hours later and everything is ticked off the list and Ashley and Brooke have assured me that they have everything covered at the house. We say our goodbyes as they head back home while I head off on my own, I have one more thing to arrange but this surprise no one knows anything about, this I can arrange myself plus it will keep me busy while I hideout until it is late enough for me to sneak in the house.

All day I’ve counted down the hours until I get to see Beth again, get to finally be her mate, I’ve not told anyone yet but I already love her and to think that it’s just going to get better has my pulse racing and my heart pounding, in less than 24 hours she will be mine!

Bethany

Today has been crazy busy, everyone has been running around making sure everything is in place ready for tomorrow and me and Katie played babysitter to Levi, willow and Bella and those three are devils when they are together but I wouldn’t change a thing about them. Brooke took Cami with her as she’s teething and really clingy with Brooke at the moment.

After arts and crafts, painting, play-doh, sand play and an hour at the pack they were finally tuckered out and passed out as soon as they had dinner and baths, Bella and Levi are in their beds while Willow is sleeping on the sofa with me while I watch tv and wait for Ashley to come and get her.

“Hey Beth, sorry I’m late, today’s been crazy!” Jack creeps into the lounge talking quietly careful not to wake Willow up.

“It’s ok don’t worry, she’s been brilliant as always, I thought Ashley was picking her up?” He gently scoops her up in his arms and she instantly cuddles into him, the look on his face when he looks at her still makes me smile every time I see it, pure love!

“He’s worn out so I’ve made him take a bath!” Jack’s a good dad, a good husband, it doesn’t matter how tired he is, Ashley and Willow always come first.

“She’s had dinner and wanted to have bath time with Levi and Bella so I put her in a pair of Bella’s pyjamas after it and they all passed out soon after, I didn’t even finish the book!”

“Cal mentioned the busy day they had so I’m not surprised!” He chuckles out. We chat for a little while before he disappears down to his floor to put her to bed. Cal and Brooke arrive home soon after and take over with the kids so I head for a shower, I’m completely drained after today and the hot water feels incredible as it soothes my aching muscles.

I take my time enjoying the shower before putting on my dumbo shorts and tee-shirt pyjamas and nose-diving my bed, I put Netflix on but I don’t even make it through one episode of friends before I nod off and the all too familiar dream enters my head and Liam appears before my face.

Beta Liam

This bar is getting crowded and it’s really not my scene but even after getting all the arrangements done it was still too early for me to go home so I’ve ended up in this small pub on the outskirts of the pack lands, it’s a nice little place but I don’t really go to pubs, I’m happy with a beer in the packhouse.

Finally, Cal texts me letting me know that my little wolf is sleeping and I waste no time in paying my bill and getting the hell out of there! Stepping outside it’s dark and the heavens have opened up creating raindrops the size of golf balls to batter the ground, I make a run for the SUV, get the heaters on and concentrate on getting my a*s home.

The rain is battering the window and even with the wipers on full I still can’t see a thing, I’m on the forest road not far from home but forest roads have no light and pitch black and rain is never a good combination, I slow my speed trying to see the road in front of me, I have the SUV lights on and my own advanced sight but nothings helping.

The rain is getting worse and the roads getting slippery, thankfully it’s not long until the rain starts to slow down, it doesn’t stop but it’s calmed down enough that I have a better view of the road, I pick my speed back up in the hope I can get home before it gets worse again and keep moving forward.

I’m not far from the pack when the rain starts picking back up, I pick my speed up some more to hopefully try and beat it when a shadow comes out from the trees and straight in front of me, f**k!

I swerve the car to avoid whatever it is knowing full well it’s properly a wolf when the tires lose grip on the slippery road causing me to spin out, I try to gain control back but it’s a losing battle so I hold on tight as the SUV completely loses control and flips over, falling down the steep forest ground at the side of the road.

I’m not sure how long the car falls for but it feels like days, it finally stops leaning against a tree, my head is thumping and as I gently rub it with my hand I feel wetness, pulling back my hand I quickly see it is covered in b***d and at the same time my vision goes blurry and I lose focus.

I try to open the door but the handle is stuck, I use all the energy and strength I can muster to barge the door but it isn’t shifting, I try to move my legs so I can kick out the window but my left leg is stuck, f**k!

I can’t find my phone and I’m too far away to mind link anyone, everything Is getting hazier and blurrier and my f*****g head is pounding, I’ve got a broken arm and possibly a broken leg and I’m stuck in the middle of the forest, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing usually as there are normally always wolves around but between this weather and the ball tomorrow, I doubt there’s anyone out there.

My head feels heavy and my breathing becomes shallow, I blink my eyes but my vision doesn’t clear, I close my eye to try and help the pounding head I have but the moment I do I see Beth’s face, her beautiful face, her silky blonde hair, her blue eyes that always remind me of the ocean, my beautiful little wolf, my beautiful mate and then there’s only darkness…
