Kevin POV

Kevin was standing leaning up against the wall, in the hospital room where Lucinda lay in the bed before him. His one job within the pack, her. To protect her and he'd not even known she was in danger, or pain for that matter. Hadn't sensed anything wrong. Had she been too far away from him, had he been too concerned with Jeremy yelling about their Alpha being in trouble, to realise it also meant so was their Luna.

Jeremy had tried to tell him it was not his fault, everything happened so fast, it was unlikely, even if he had sensed Lucinda's pain, that he would have gotten to her on time. Kevin knew he was right on some level. The security footage only lasted 7 and a half minutes. That's how long it had taken for Jeremy to get to Nick's office and stop the atrocity that had been happening.

Even when he had shifted and Bae was in control and trying to get to her, they both knew it was too late. He'd tried to reach out to her instantly, connect with her to tell her what had happened, but she was already off pack territory, took her less than 5 minutes to bolt from the pack, she was well gone before he got there. Nothing anyone could do.

Now he stood and watched over her. He would not fail again. He was tuned to her breathing, it was slow and steady, an even rhythm, breathing 17 respirations a minute. Her heart beat was strong and steady, currently beating 70 beats a minute, at his count, their was no machines attached to her. Just the IV line in her arm running a slow drip of fluids, and twice a day she was given IV antibiotics to help prevent infection. Her wounds had been deep and some of them had already shown signs of infection. She lay there. Her bruising was starting to ease off a little and most of the swelling around her wounds had gone down. If Ky'ra had been with her she'd be healed by now, it had only taken 3 days after her run in with the bear, for Ky'ra to heal her. It had been 5 days

now.

5 days since, Nick had come towards the car carrying her near lifeless body in his arms, covered in blood and wounds. She had looked dead to him and Kevin had nearly not been able to focus, seeing the state of her, it had only been the fact that he had seen her like this once before that he'd managed not to loose it altogether. Knowing she had pulled through once before.

Though the minute she was in the car with him, he knew he could not feel Ky'ra.

She had been sleeping for 5 full days now. Not drugged or sedated, just didn't wake up. Whether she would was up to her, it seemed. The pack doctors here had done all they could. It was a waiting game now.

Nick was currently asleep in Lucinda's old home, in her old bed. It had not been allocated to any other wolf by Alpha Corey. Would it seemed, always be her home, for when she came to visit the twins. Though she would definitely be allowed to stay in the pack- house, Alpha Corey didn't think that she would.

Jeremy had dragged Nick from the hospital room some 4 hours ago. Their Alpha barely got any sleep at all, sat and stared at his Mate, unconscious in the hospital bed. Occasionally he would reach out and touch her. Kevin had seen him try to mind-link her on several occasions but nothing had been returned to him. There was nothing anyone could do at this point.

Lucinda's wounds had all been tended to, stitched and stapled where necessary for the larger wounds. If Ky'ra didn't come back and she continued to heal, she was going to be a mass of scars. Not that he thought Nick would care about that. Once she had been washed, the full extent of her injuries revealed. It was no wonder she was near death. She and Alpha Darwin, it seemed, had been in a battle to the death.

If Nick had not figured out who she was, where she had come from, it was likely they would not have found her on time and she would probably have died from her wounds. She had three pints of blood transfused into her during the first 24 hours but hadn't seemed to need anymore. The doctors were happy with her blood tests after that.

Nick had confirmed that neither he or Rip could feel Ky'ra at all. It appeared she was actually gone. Kevin hadn't seen Rip in 4 days, not even once on the surface, likely having trouble dealing with the loss of his Mate. Nick hadn't really said much the whole time, a few quiet conversations with the doctors. Jeremy was in charge at the moment.

Kevin was standing in her room alone, watching her, trying to feel for anything, any sign of life from her. There had not even been so much as a flicker of eye movement, she did not dream, where ever she was. Just lay there unconscious and they were all just waiting for her to wake up. With each passing day, Kevin could feel his own hope dwindling, though he never allowed Nick to see that. Or hear it. Kept that to himself.

The woman outside the pack hospital, were still there. It seemed that they were keeping a vigil for their Luna. He now knew they were also survivors of the White Lotus Pack and she had been the one to save them all, from Darwin. They loved her and they were all out there afraid they were going to loose her.

Getting out of Nick's hummer and hurrying around the front of it to get to the pack hospital, had brought him to his knees, literally had stumbled and fallen down. All his Gamma instincts had been switched on and dialled up, trying to keep a feel for Lucinda during the drive out to Half Moon Pack.

Those women he'd not been expecting as he'd turned into the pack hospital's parking area, and damned near run down, had all been informed of what was going on, it seemed, and had also been waiting for her arrival. Their emotions had hit him hard, fear and sadness from 60 people had smashed right into him, and he'd fallen to the ground under the weight of it, groaning in pain, his head had throbbed instantly, felt almost like it was splitting open.

Jeremy had come over and picked him up from the ground as Nick had been headed for the hospital and the waiting doctors. He'd been unable to switch himself off once under the weight of all their emotions. It seemed the flood gates were open and being held open, too much for him to handle. He'd never had to use his Gamma abilities like this and didn't think he would do it willingly in the future. Bae had snarled at him to s**k it up. But he just couldn't this was the first time he'd ever felt anything like it. Jeremy had practically had to carry him. He was so overloaded by their fear and sadness, he could barely recall how to put one foot in front of the other. Their sudden emotions had been totally unexpected for him, and it had completely knocked him for six. Thankfully, the minute the hospital door had closed behind him, he'd started to feel better, though not by much.

Another wolf had come over and helped Jeremy to get him into a chair, had gone and gotten him a glass of ice-cold water and told him to drink it, it would help with the pain.

"Sorry Gamma. I should probably have warned you about what you were walking into. I'm James, Half Moon Pack's Gamma, they are a lot to handle right now."

"Kevin." he'd answered the man, after thanking him for the cold water, it did actually help kind of numb his brain a bit. He was thankful for the first time in his life for the effects of a brain freeze. Leaned his head back on the wall behind him and sagged down in the chair. He could see Jeremy looking down the hall. "Go Jeremy, I'll be fine." he knew the man was wanting to go after Nick and Lucinda. He didn't need any further encouragement.

"Are they always like that?" he'd asked James.

"No. it is because of Lucinda's state, they are sad and fearful for her life. Will likely not get any better until she does. Not looking forward to it if she..." he trailed off.

"Don't say it man..." Kevin sighed. He knew what he'd meant if she died.

James sat down next to him. "Switch off Kevin, just breathe."

"Can't...when she wakes up." he could only imagine the state her mind would be when she woke up.

"I understand, you and I can handle her emotions, together okay, and you being run down won't help her. Relax now."

Kevin looked right at him. He was offering a duel partnership between two different packs, Gamma's, to help her through whatever she would be feeling. He nodded, after a minute, "might need both of us," he commented.

"Did I hear right when Jeremy called? She took on Darwin alone?" he was frowning.

"Yes you did. He is very dead." Kevin sighed. "A hell of a fight, there was blood all over the place." He sat up properly and shook his head slightly. "Has no fear that girl. Well, not of being injured anyway."

"Never really did, got a singular drive, that one," James had nodded.

James had sat with him until he'd felt better. It took a good 20 minutes. Warned him that going outside was going to take a toll on him, every time he went outside. Best only do it when necessary and he should brace himself even when switched off, for their emotions. That they would likely not leave until she did.

James had been right. It had been 5 days now. It seemed in that time they had organised themselves into shifts of 20, and just sat out there, with their heads bowed in silence, praying or just being silent it seemed. He'd seen a few of the teens, coming and going, bringing food and water, whatever the women needed. Heard some of them say mum or aunty when talking with them.

They looked to him sometimes, probably hoping for some sort of feedback on her condition. Kevin knew the doctor's here and Luna Linda were keeping them up to date on the situation, but they were hoping for any new information from anyone who went in, he guessed.

Alpha Corey and Luna Lindy just let them sit out there, didn't shoo them away, didn't even attempt it. Made sure they had everything they needed to make them comfortable. It seemed, whatever their places within the pack, they were just making do with out them. He also noted the teens had not attended school the whole time either.

Gabby had brought the twins down to see Lucinda. On the 3rd day, Nick had not wanted her to do it at all, he'd gotten into a mildly heated argument with the woman, about not wanting the twins to see her in such a wounded state. Kevin had understood that, they were her sisters after all and very little.

Gabby had stood right there in front of him, staring up at him defiantly, her hands across her chest and blatantly told him, it was their right to see her. That they had more rights than he had at this time. That he either agreed to it or she would call Alpha Corey to put his Alpha foot down on him. Then had stood there and stared up at him. It seemed she was as stubborn as he was. Was damned near challenging him to send her away, it seemed.

Nick, it appeared, had stood debating it in his own mind, had his own thoughts on the matter, it seemed. What they were Kevin didn't know. But he'd eventually given in to the woman and she had gone off stating she would be right back with the girls. Then she left the room, her heels clicking on the tiles, as she walked away.

Nick had actually left the room willingly for the first time in 3 days, didn't seem like he wanted to be in the room when she returned with the twins, didn't want to see their reaction to the state of their big sister. Their reaction had not been good. Though they had obviously been told about her current condition, it didn't seem to prepare them for the reality of it. Perhaps didn't believe it.

They'd walked into the room, holding each other's hands as both James and Gabby had brought them in. He noted Beta Adam in the doorway behind them, his eyes were on the two girls. A little odd, he thought, but had let it go.

The nurse had come in minutes before the twins and made sure that Lucinda's blankets were pulled up and covered her wounded body properly. Though they could not cover her bruised and wounded face, the bite she had taken to her face, there for all to see. Though those stitches had been removed this morning, the holes from Darwin's wolf's teeth closed over now.

The two girls looked nervous entering the room. Kevin had seen tears just pour out of the two of them. They stood staring at her for a long time. He could feel something different about them, it was weird, like they were more than just little girls. He'd had to shake his head, but the frown on his face didn't leave. Caught Adam looking at him, really watching him.

Kevin had nodded to him and then focused back on the girls before him. They had both reached under the blanket to take her hand in theirs and one of them, he didn't know which one, had asked her "to wake up, to please wake up."

The twins had been stopped by Gabby and James from climbing up on the bed to lay with her, and reminded that they couldn't because she was really badly injured, and they just couldn't do it. He'd watched as the two of them received two very angry glares from the girls and felt a wave of power roll off of them, snapped his eyes wide open. They did not like being told what to do, where their sister was concerned.

It was the power that got his attention. Sisters, he thought. They didn't look anything like her. It dawned on him they were likely Matthews sisters, Alpha-blooded twins, that was the power he'd felt roll off of them. His eyes had moved to Beta Adam, who was still watching him. A corner of his mouth tilted up as he saw the realisation hit Kevin.

Wow, he wondered if Nick knew. Might be a bit of a problem.

The twins had only been allowed to stay for 1 hour, that also did not go down so well with the girls. Kevin had watched the pair of them, lash out at both Gabby and James, and the two of them had had to be carried out kicking and screaming the whole way, screaming her name and yelling to be put down.

James was trying to contain one while Adam had the other. Now he understood why the Beta was there. Gabby was too small to carry a furiously angry Alpha-blooded 8-year-old mid tantrum of Alpha proportions and they were rolling power off of them, trying to get their own way. Probably didn't even know what they were, being raised by Gamma's, but they knew how to throw out their Alpha Aura already.

A force to be reckoned with later in life they would be.

Kevin's eyes flicked right to her, his thoughts interrupted by a long deep breath in, followed by a short sharp one out. Then nothing again, returned to her previous state. It was, however, the first sign of life from her that he had seen in 5 days. Though did not report

it.

Nick was finally asleep after being awake for nearly 30 hours straight. He would let the man sleep. If he so much as reported even a flicker of eye movement, the man would rush right over here to see it for himself and that would be the end of his sleep. Kevin knew that Nick was exhausted, could actually see it.

10 minutes passed, still nothing. Still a waiting game, it seemed. Glad he didn't report it, even though Nick had told him anything new, you report it right away and Kevin had nodded in agreement. It had not been an order, technically, so he didn't feel compelled to do so. Trying to look after the man, seeing as he couldn't do it himself.

Nick had left Jeremy in charge of showing Alpha Corey and Luna Lindy the security footage of all that had transpired, leading up to Lucinda's current state, so they could in fact understand what had happened. Braidy had been requested to send the footage of Nick killing them all. Not that Kevin thought Alpha Corey didn't believe it, he was an Alpha himself and would have done no less for his Mate.

It was more that he actually wanted to see it for himself. Lucinda was now considered the man's daughter. He likely wanted to see punishment dealt out for himself, for no other reason than his need as a parent to see that justice was served. A wolfs justice. Apparently, had watched it, the whole thing, then just nodded and stated "Got what she deserved."

Phoebe called him twice a day to check on him, wanted to make sure he was alright and unharmed. He reassured her each time that he was fine. She didn't sound convinced and was a little more than worried he thought. They'd never really been apart for this long, he supposed. She clearly didn't like it. Reminded her it was necessary at this time and he would come home the minute he could.

She just sighed and said "I know." seemed to want to say something else to him but didn't. He'd asked her if there was something wrong and she'd said there was nothing. She just missed him. He missed her too, hated sleeping alone, hadn't done that in years, hard to get used to, supposed she was the same.

He was a bit of a hugger in bed. She was always telling him he was smothering her in their bed. He usually just growled at her and hugged her tighter, told her to deal with it. She had been dealing with his possessiveness for years. Occasionally, when she struggled to get away and out from his grip, he would just let Bae out to hump her silly.

His wolf thought it was funny, and so did Kevin, for that matter. Bae could be very playful with his Mate's, usually led to their wolves mating and then she would stop complaining about his hugging and curl into him. Kevin wondered if she did it on purpose sometimes, just to play with his wolf. Bae thought so, loved Phoebe as much as his own Mate Rosa. Loved humping them both actually.

Kevin had received a call from Braidy just yesterday regarding a young girl he found on the Alpha Unit floor, from what he saw scent marking Jeremy's door. Kevin had smiled and asked him what she looked like. Tall with blue hair and blue eyes, oh that was her alright.

Told him to let her in. It was the girl he'd seen Mark Jeremy. Was Jeremy's Mate. Braidy had laughed oh I can't wait for him to come across her father. He'd laughed, Kevin had nodded, it would be interesting indeed.

He'd heard that Mary was back and was helping Braidy run the Pack, no surprise their. She was Nicks' sister and Alpha-blooded. The pack had returned to normal. No-one, it seemed, was overly concerned about what Nick had done. Invoking the punishment of rule 1. no-one had deserted the pack for another due to his actions.

Lucinda's office was almost completely finished. Mary had insisted on the work being completed. Regardless of the fact that Lucinda was not there. Stated point blankly to Braidy 'she will come back to us!' with a certainty like she already knew the outcome, and had put her Alpha foot down on the builders.

Mary had also taken it upon herself with her new mother Samantha to take of the cleaning up of Nick and Lucinda's living room, which Nick had destroyed in his fit of rage. So it to would be fixed by the time 'they' got back. She had complete faith in Nicks' ability to regain his Luna, it seemed.

Again, that long breath in, drew his attention from his thoughts, his eyes were on her, head tilted to the side slightly, trying to catch something from her. Any emotion as fleeting as it might be, nothing she seemed empty to him, felt empty inside like nothing was there.

Kevin frowned, he didn't like it, neither did his instincts.

Turned his eyes to the door as it opened and watched as Jeremy came into the room, carrying the biggest sandwich Kevin had ever seen the man eat. "You keep eating like that. You'll be fat, the next time your Mate sees you," he commented.

Jeremy shrugged "She Marked me, now she has to deal with the consequences. If I get fat it'll be her fault. Stress eating over her man. All her fault."

Kevin smiled, didn't think he'd ever see the day Jeremy voice being stressed about something other than his twin. "Might reject you, if you get fat."

"She can't already Marked me." he shot back, sounding annoyed "How is she?" his eyes moved to Lucinda.

"Empty inside, is all I get. Its really odd. No-one just feels nothing."

"They can." Jeremy stated, he sounded like he'd seen it before, but didn't elaborate.

Again that deep breath in. Jeremy froze in place, his eyes widened slightly.

"Been doing that a while now."

"You told Nick yet?"

"Do you see him sitting here?" Kevin replied. "She's not awake, let the man sleep. Though hopefully soon. I'll wait to tell him. The man is exhausted. I will not give him false hope."

Jeremy nodded, seemed to understand. "Took him all of like a minute to fall asleep once he was in her bed. Must still smell like her. Stretched out his face buried in one of her old pillows, poor bastard."

"I won't wake him unless she wakes." Kevin told him.

"No real point." Jeremy nodded and sank down in the chair by the wall.

Kevin wondered what the man was doing here? yes come for an update, but now he had taken a seat, he was here to pry information out of Kevin or try to, he supposed, had been trying to do so for days now. Not gonna happen.

"You ever going to tell me what she looks like?" he asked after finishing his sandwich.

And there it was. Kevin thought "No! I think though. From what I saw, more mischievous than you. Going to give you a run for the title of mischief maker within the pack."

Jeremy snorted "I doubt it."

Kevin looked pointedly at Jeremy's neck, his Mark to be exact, and raised an eyebrow. " You wouldn't do that, Mark your Mate, and run away giggling about it."

Saw Jeremy frown but say nothing.

"Nick might just get a break from you, while you have to deal with her."

"I'll just tie her to our bed, it'll be all good." Jeremy smirked, clearly thinking about it.

"You might be the one tied up." Kevin smirked right back at him. It did seem to Kevin that the young lady would likely do just that. Probably leave him there and wander off too, happy with it. Likely find him naked and tied to a tree at some point. Need rescuing himself. Oh how Nick would enjoy that. Probably give Jeremy's Mate some silver handcuffs to stop him from being able to call for help too. Hmm, Kevin might just do that himself.

Thinking about Jeremy having to deal with the girls' very protective father was highly amusing, and he would tell Nick who Jeremy's Mate was the minute all this crap was sorted out. Nick would find it very funny, and the man could use a laugh. Though not at a time like this. So it could wait for now.

His eyes moved back to Lucinda, her eyes were open 'Jeremy' he shot down the mink-link not wanting to startle her.

She wasn't moving, just lying there staring at the ceiling, it appeared. All his Gamma instincts were on now. But still he was getting nothing from her, still felt empty to him. 'what you getting?'

'Nothing at all, like she's...not really there!' it concerned him greatly.

'Mm... I've seen that before, needs time to work through her own mind and pain.' Jeremy replied,

'Shut down, you mean?'

'Yes...It's how Callie felt to me, after... he trialled off.

'Nick? You want I should wake him?' Kevin asked.

'I'll walk over and get him. It'll give you time to keep her calm if she looses it.' Jeremy got up slowly like he didn't want to startle her either, and walked quietly from the room.

Her eyes did not move from the ceiling at all, like she hadn't registered his presence or the movement in the room. Kevin stood and watched her, didn't move, didn't speak, just watched and waited.
