Chapter 11

"Come in" Thane called out. Kyros stepped in. Jairus cleaned his mouth, giving me a smile and nodded at Kyros as he left. "My king" he bowed his head in greeting.

"What do you want?"

"I came to seek your permission on behalf of Esme." he looked between us.

"Whatever for?"

"She wants to volunteer at the infirmary"

"No" my heart sank.

"My king...."

Thane interrupted him "If that is all you may leave now." Kyros looked like he wanted to say more but he turned and left.

I was fuming in anger. I angrily packed the dishes and stormed out of the room. My anger reduced before I entered the study again.

"Would you be needing anything your highness?" I prayed he heard the venom dripping from my voice. He looked at me for a bit and pointed to the couch. "Go lay down."he looked back at his desk.

"I..." He looked at me again and I went to lie down.

Jairus strode into the room but paused when he glanced at me.

"You don't look happy. Why is that?" I looked at Thane and he followed my eyes.

"What did he do now?"

"He wouldn't let me volunteer at the infirmary."

"You want to?" I nodded.

"It's not up for discussion." Thane said. I pouted and turned. The two discussed something but I couldn't hear.

I strolled to the infirmary the next day. A large smile on my face.

"Good morning. I'm here to see Dr. Kyros." She nodded indifferently. I followed the path we took the day before and knocked on his door.

"Come in" I turned the door knob.

"Good morning Kyros"

"Esme. How are you today. Is there any problem?"

"Not at all. The king has approved my volunteer work." I said smiling widely.

"Really he was unyielding yesterday."

"I convinced him."he looked at me for a moment.

"Fine. You'll volunteer at the children's section."

He showed me the area where the children were kept and told me what to do. The children area was more like a daycare. Working parents usually left them there for nurses to care for and picked them up on their way back. I fed the children, put them to sleep and played with them. When the sky darkened, I went to see Kyros.

"I'm leaving for the day"

"You've been of great help today. Thank you." I smiled and left. Lily carried a pile of blankets to the store room.

"Lily" I called after her.

"Oh Esme. How are you? I came by to see you but you were unconscious."

"I'm fine now. Where you treated?"

"Yes. Kyros cleaned my wounds and the prince gave me his blood."

"Kyros said you volunteer here now?"

"Yes. I like this place much better than the palace. I want to ask Kyros to apply for a switch for me"

"I hope it works out well."

"Thank you for that night. Nobody would have done that for me."

"It's fine. Did you really take the ring?" She shook her head.

"Then what happened?" her face held hesitation.

"You don't have to tell me now. But does it have to do with the whippings you received last week?"she nodded. Something was definitely wrong.

"I have to go." I hugged her and ran to the palace. An hour left till dinner. I hurried to my room and scrubbed the smell of hospital from me. I picked the king's meal and took it to his study. I wondered why he stopped eating with the rest of his cabinet.

He door was ajar so I didn't knock. He sat behind his desk, a frown on his face. The royal beta and chief guard sat opposite him. They stopped talking as soon as I entered.

"We'll continue this later" Valdus and Noir nodded and stood up. Valdus gave me a smile but Noir didn't spare me a glance. The door was closed and I stood awkwardly. He stood up and walked towards me.

"Where have you been?" he changed direction and sat on the couch.

"In my room" I flinched as his hands slammed on the table.

"DON'T FUCKING LIE TO ME. WHERE THE FUCK WERE YOU?" I trembled.

"My room." He tutted.

"Come here" I took slow steps till I was in his front. He tugged me and I fell into him. He lay me over his laps and bunched my gown around my waist. I struggled as he pulled my panties down my legs but he held me firmly.

His hand came down on my ass in quick succession.

"I want you to count." Tears blurred my eyes as the next slap landed.

"One" another one landed. I whimpered.

"Two" I continued until we reached twenty-five. My whole ass ached as I lay on his laps sobbing. He gently caressed my ass and pulled my panties up. He sat me on his laps and caressed my hair. I sobbed loudly into his chest. My ass throbbed and my head ached from the sobbing. He waited until I calmed down before he spoke again.

"Where were you? And don't lie to me again. I went to your room and you weren't there." He went to my room?

"The forest." he stiffened.

"Why did you lie?"

"I thought you'll be mad"

"Damn right. What were you thinking going there?" I couldn't answer. He held me in his arms and rocked me gently.

"Don't lie to me ever again. It won't be my hands the next time. I'll use a whip." I shivered. He lifted me and walk to his chair and sat so I straddled him. He continued working while I sat on him. The door opened and I moved to stand up. He pushed me back down into him. "Is that Esme?" I turned to see Jairus grinning down at us.

"What is it you want?" Thane ignored him.

"It's about Roman." I stiffened at the sound of the name. Thane growled at his son.

"Not now."

"What happened to him?" I looked at his face.

"I said NOT NOW!!" he muttered through gritted teeth. I sighed and snuggled into his chest.
