HIS QUEEN
Chapter 15

Who was Catalina? I looked at him in confusion as I answered.

"Who is Catalina?" he didn't answer as he dragged me out of the room. Servants in the hallway looked at us as he dragged me past them. Jairus was in the hallway as we passed.

"What is going on?" he ignored him and kept on pulling me. Thane opened the door and pushed me inside. I tripped and landed on the floor. I looked at the room. It was the room Jairus had asked me to sleep in. But who was Catalina? The owner of the faint lavender

scent?

"It was me who asked her to stay here." Jairus spoke up.

"How dare you disrespect Catalina like that? You had no fucking right to bring a common slave in here" that hurt. Common slave?

"She is your mate" Jairus said calmly.

"And so is Catalina" oh.. this was his dead mate's room. I had no idea.

"Who has been dead for over four hundred years" the sickening sound of a bone cracking resonated the room. Thane had punched Jairus.

"Everyone is forbidden from coming into this room. Especially the help." He walked out slamming the door. Jairus rushed to aid me but I refused. I stood up on my own and went to my room. Thane's words resounding in my head. Help? Common maid? I laughed bitterly what did I expect? Fairytale ending my foot. I locked my room and slid down the door. Sobs wracking my chest. I headed to the bathroom to clean of the blood from the claw marks on my arms.

I spent the remainder of the day in my room weeping silently. Someone knocked on the door but I ignored it.

Two days had passed since the incident. Jairus came to my door a couple of times but I ignored him. I knew it wasn't his fault but I didn't want see anybody. My meals were dropped at the door but I couldn't bring myself to eat anything. Apple and a slice of cheese where the only things I could keep down. The rest of the food ended up in the toilet. I felt extremely weak and nauseous this last two days.

On the third day, I could barely move about. I lay in bed all day. The door was knocked down when I screamed in pain. Jairus rushed to me as I threw up blood. My entire body was feverish and my mark throbbed in pain. I became unconscious when my body could no longer handle the pain.

I slipped in and out of consciousness throughout the night. Each time I woke up somebody was beside the bed. By morning, I felt I was going to die. My whole body ached and my head throbbed. There were loud voices in the room.

"How could he leave. She is newly marked and a halfbreed at that. What the fuck was he thinking."

My eyes were blurry from tears. I couldn't identify the owner of the voice. Thane was the cause of the pain? Why did he leave? Was it to punish me? Too many questions crossed my mind.

When I woke up again, I didn't feel as much pain as I felt before. My head no longer throbbed and the fever had disappeared. I still felt weak though. I wasn't sure what day it was. Jairus lay slumped in the chair beside the bed. I reached out to touch him and he jerked up at the contact.

His clothes were wrinkled and bags were under his eyes. "How do you feel?"

"Better. What day is it?".

"Friday. You've been out for two days"

"Is he back?" He nodded in understanding. That was why I suddenly felt better. I moved to stand up but he pushed me back gently.

"You'll have to be on bed rest till tomorrow. Your body went through a lot" I slept off. When I came to, Althea and Lily were in the room. They fussed about and gave me dinner. Jairus, Nala and Valdus came to see me that evening.

Today is the day of the ball. Althea popped in and out of the room. She was working downstairs today. I spent the day in bed reading a book.

Jairus came in with a suit and a dress. He laid the green dress on the bed.

"You'll come for the ball" I shook my head. I didn't want to go downstairs today.

"If you change your mind please where this dress" I nodded. He dropped a box on the dress and shoes on the floor. I wasn't going to change my mind. I felt the material of the dress. It was silly. Dark green with swirls of silver. I could hear sounds coming from downstairs. Just go downstairs. My subconscious said. I shook my head. I wasn't invited. Stupid. Jairus invited you. You have no excuse. I really didn't have an excuse. I put on the dress. It hugged my body perfectly. The dress showed cleavage and flared around my hips. It was sleeveless with a slit that stopped mid thigh.

I packed my hair in a high ponytail and wore silver heels. I opened the box and saw silver jewelry. I wore the earrings, necklace and bracelet. I looked at the mirror and shook my head. This was dressing up.

I removed the earrings and necklace and left the bracelet and left the room. I followed the music to the grand ballroom. The king stood tall and proud, a beautiful woman clung to his arms. I turned away in jealousy. They looked perfect together. I was different. I would never fit in. I wiped the tears that trailed down my cheeks. I turned to leave when arms clamped on my arms. I turned sharply to see who grabbed me.

Blue eyes stared at me shining with mirth. His hair as golden as the sun. High cheekbones and a chiseled jaw. He tilted his head to look at me. "What's a beautiful thing like you doing standing in the corner?"
