Chapter 42

I could already feel his rage through the bond. His smell was the first I noticed before his blazing eyes met mine. He walked to me and quickly inspected me for any injuries.

I touched his arm. "I'm fine" he nodded and went over to Noir and he filled him in.

"Who gave the Luna a drink in my name" his loud voice boomed. Everywhere was dead silent and it only seemed to increase his rage. He released is dominance and all werewolves and humans fell to the floor. Noir and Valdus seemed to be struggling to stay upright while the others groaned in pain. I whimpered as I was not left out. He turned to me and released his hold on them.

He walked to me and carried me in his arms and out of the great hall. Valdus and Noir followed behind us.

"Head to the office. I'll be there in a few"

"No. Please I want to be there"

"You need to rest"

"Please. I want to be with you" his eyes softened and he carried me to the office. He sat on his chair and placed me on his laps.

"I reached into everybody's minds. The culprit is not there. I need the names of all the people absent" Noir mind linked someone. "What do you have"

"There was no detectable scent around the Luna. And I'm thinking it must be related to Roman" I flinched at the sound of his name. "What do your men have on him"

"No exact location yet. But a cloaked figure has been spotted numerous times around the border talking with someone"

"Any identity yet?"

"None as of now" Thane slammed his hands on the table with a growl. I rubbed his chest soothingly to calm him.

"But we know he's working with an insider and he has help from the witches"

"Gather the other lycans. They are incharge of border patrol. All werewolves and traineeshould be moved to the palace. And everything she takes from food to drink should be tasted" "What if it's poisoned?"

"They die. One of them tried to kill you. Noir only you, Valdus, your mates and the doctor are allowed around her for now"

I didn't get to argue or hear the rest of the things they said because I blacked out.

When I woke up, hands were softly caressing my hair. I smiled at him after he kissed my cheeks.

A throat cleared and I saw Kyros standing awkwardly at the door. "Luna" I nodded at him.

"I've done some research as per the king's orders and discovered a way to help with the situation" he nodded to my protruding belly.

"Really?" He nodded with a smile.

"The king's blood will make things easier for your body. No more blackouts and the chances of surviving childbirth will be higher" I hugged Thane tightly and placed kisses all over his face while he chuckled. "But.." I turned to him with a frown.

"You remember all those times you took his blood? The things that happened?" I nodded.

"All those effects with your pregnancy hormones will make you different"

"Different?"

"Yes. Different. You'll be a whole lot more sensitive, your emotions and appetite will be tripled and you'll be sex crazed" I flushed.

"Sex crazed?" Thane chuckled.

"I'll be leaving now" he bowed and left the room.

"Thank you very much"

He kissed my lips. "Just promise me that you'll not die on me. I won't be able to take it" I could sense vulnerability in his voice. I kissed him. "I promise I won't"

He placed his hands in my bump and smiled at me. "I can hear movements"

"Really?" He nodded. I placed my hands above him and he looked at me.

"What of the person who tried to kill me?"

"I'll find him and kill him"

"What if he strikes again?"

"I'll be waiting for him"

Things changed a bit after the attempt to kill me. We were all waiting for the person to strike again. From what Thane had

gathered, the person wanted the net

child dead and would strike again before I gave birth. Thane's blood helped me a while lot. The blackouts had stopped and he assisted me with all my insatiable urges and cravings.

I walked down the hallway to the stairs and down the kitchen. Everywhere seemed empty and Thane had a meeting in his office with Noir and Valdus. I craved meat

badly but I couldn't eat wasn't

tasted.

I went to Nala's room and knocked on the door. She came out a few moments later.

"Hungry again?" I nodded sheepishly. She smiled at me and followed me to the kitchen. A maid stood at the counter chopping vegetables.

"The queen would like steak"

"Yes. Of course" we went to the dinning and waited while she prepared the meal. Moments later, she came out with two plates of mouthwatering steak.

She used her cutlery to cut out a part of the steak and chewed. She went to get water and I began to cut the steak into bits. She returned and poured the water in a glass.

I turned to the door and saw Althea coming slowly with her finger on her mouth telling me not to say a word. The maid must have followed my sight because she turned and saw Althea.

As her cover was blown, she shouted "she poisoned you" the maid grabbed something and aimed for my throat but my I fought her wrists before she plunged the object into my throat.

I twisted her wrists and the object fell to the floor with a clattering sound. Nala already had her hands around her neck in a vice grip while she mind linked somebody.

In seconds, the three huge lycans were downstairs. Nala roughly pushed the girl into Noir's arms and he knocked her out.

"Where are the others" Thane growled out.

Althea answered. "When I got back

from the infirmary, everywhere was quiet. The guards and the maids were all asleep. I decided to hide myself when I heard some noise in the kitchen. The beta female and the queen wanted something to eat. After they left, I saw her pour something on one side of the steak. When she tasted it, she didn't eat from the part that she poured something on. So I figured something was wrong. When she got back to the kitchen, she made a

call and said she had done it and the queen will be dead soon"

"Thank you so much Althea. You saved me" I hugged her tightly. Valdus retrieved a vial from the pocket of her dress and smelled it.

"It has no scent" he passed it round and they confirmed it" Noir went rigid for a moment and he spoke.

"I got news from my scouts. They found them"
