Chapter 602: Leave the Money, Take the Person
Finally, after much persuasion from Mitch, Reed, Payne, and Mia, Marnon agreed to come to Manches City.
However, Marnon's illness had already been dragging on for a long time and she had missed the best treatment window. Although it was still possible to cure her, it would take longer than if she had come earlier. Additionally, the expenses might be higher.
The Miller family only had one adult member - Mitch - so he was the one who went out looking for work. He had previously worked as a delivery driver and a food delivery person but quit both jobs because of low pay.
Mitch ended up here by chance. He overheard some teenagers discussing where to make some quick cash while delivering dinner to Marnon at the hospital. After listening in on their conversation for a while, Mitch approached them for information about this area and came over that same night.
As coincidence would have it, the Underground Market needed new staff members. After they checked Mitch's age eligibility, they kept him on. After his first day of work, he earned more than 20 thousand dollars in commission alone.
The next day Mitch boldly asked around about Underground Market's boss Foster since he knew how to sweet-talk people into giving him what he wanted. When Foster finally met with him, Mitch requested an advance payment of 150 thousand dollars.
Not just anyone could work at Underground Market due to potential police infiltration risks. When Mitch asked for the advance, Foster already knew Mitch's family background and why Mitch wanted the advance.
Although Foster wasn't exactly known as a saintly figure around town either way you look at it; deep down inside even someone like him still possessed some sense of compassion for others. When Mitch asked, Foster just gave Mitch the money.
For Mitch, Foster was a lifesaver, and Mitch wouldn't leave no matter what Yanis said.
Because the advance of 150, 000 had not yet been paid back, and the three-month deadline on the contract had not yet arrived.
Yanis looked at Foster. "I'll pay for the money he took from you."
Foster looked at Yanis' face. "You out? Are you brother and sister to Mitch?"
Yanis said, "Yes."
Foster was very angry about being beaten just now, so he couldn't hold back his temper. "Well, if you really want to take someone away, you don't have to pay me. You stay with me the night. You just take the person, and I don't need the money."
Myles looked at Foster, speechless. "You want to die tonight, don't you?"
"Say that again?" Zane looked calmly at Foster.
Evan doesn't give Foster a chance. He holds Foster's mouth tight. "Stop the fucking beep!"
And he winked at Myles.
Yanis reached out to pull Zane. "Take it easy."
Zane frowned and looked at Yanis.
Yanis, seeing clear anger on Zane's face, reached out and put her hand into Zane's. Then she gently took Zane's hand, stepped in front of Zane, and looked at Foster. "That's $3. 15 million. I'll ask to have it sent right now."
Zane frowned. "I'll call Albi."
At this point Yanis didn't argue with Zane. She whispered, "OK."
Zane picked up his phone and texted Albi, who naturally was still up at this point, so he quickly texted back, saying he was coming over now.
"You are killing me!" Foster struggled for a long time to free Evan's hand covering his mouth and angrily kicked Evan.
Evan was frustrated. "You... Never mind, I should have let Zane kill you."
Fearing another fight, Myles pulls Zane outside.
Foster brushed his hand against Evan's covered mouth. "You think I'm afraid of him?"
Evan pulled aside a chair and sat down. "Honestly, you can't beat him."
After hearing this, Foster immediately glared at Evan, seemingly wanting to prove his strength by fighting with Evan.
Allan, who had been watching the drama, rubbed his shoulder, which was accidentally hit during their fight, and sat down in a chair to look at Foster. "What's your beef with Zane?" When Foster heard this, he looked at Allan, as if he could not remember him, and looked at Evan.
Evan glanced at Allan's face. "I forgot to introduce my buddy, Allan."
Foster nodded to Allan. " Foster, the boss here."
Allan nodded along. "Allan."
The two men exchanged a few words as if they had known each other for a long time.
Whenever Foster thought of Zane, his blood pressure would skyrocket.
He felt like a ticking time bomb about to explode.
Back when Zane hadn't officially taken over the Lawrence Group, he seemed like a cool and good guy on the surface and in other people's eyes.
But in reality, Zane was not a good person behind closed doors.
Youthful rebellion was inevitable. Zane had done some things that made people think he wasn't a good person at all.
Foster and him became enemies because back then Zane used to come over to South City for shooting and horse riding competitions. No matter what kind of competition it was, Zane almost always came first while Foster remained second place forever.
At first they were friendly with each other, but later on they started becoming unfriendly towards one another.
This was mainly because there was this girl that Foster liked who only had eyes for Zane.
When she confessed her feelings to him right in front of Foster's face, he thought if she liked him too, then it would be okay; he could bear it even though it hurt so much inside.
But unexpectedly, Zane rejected her outright without any mercy or hesitation, which caused the girl to cry before walking away heartbroken.
Foster felt sorry for her at that moment, on the verge of beating Zane.
However, Foster still managed keep his head straight knowing very well that you can't force someone into loving you no matter how hard you try.
It turned out later on that the girl fell into depression after being rejected by Zane, which led Foster thinking maybe if Zane went over to visit her just once, things might have been different or better somehow, but unfortunately, Zane refused point blankly, even refusing visiting South City anymore.
Soon after, the poor girl committed suicide by jumping off from somewhere high up.
Young Foster really hated Zane back then.
Such an amazing girl gone just like that...
What made matters worse is how indifferent Zane acted throughout all this tragedy. That's why their feud has lasted until now.
