Chapter 604: Is It Because Of My Dad?

Chapter 604: Is it because of my dad?

After listening to Yanis, Mitch nodded and said, "Okay." He gave his phone number and address to Yanis.

"Let me take you back," Mitch offered. Again, he nodded in agreement.

Myles spoke up at the right moment. "You guys go ahead. I'll stay with Evan and them."

Zane drove Mitch to the hospital entrance.

"Is Mia staying at the hospital too?" Yanis asked Mitch.

Shaking his head, Mitch replied, "Nope. I rented a room for them nearby. They come over during the day when Reed is there."

Yanis nodded before getting out of the car. She bought a bunch of things from a supermarket near the hospital and gave them to Mitch. "Take these with you," she said as she handed him everything. "I'll come back tomorrow."

Looking at all that Yanis had bought for him, Mitch couldn't help but ask her seriously: "Yanis?"

"Hmm?"

"Are you doing this because of my dad?"

Mitch's serious question caught Yanis off guard. It was not only because Mia's family had taken care of her when she was in the Hill District of Viteto, but also because something happened to Mia's father due to her.

Overall, though, Yanis felt like it was just right that she repaid their kindness by doing what she could now.

Before Yanis could say anything else though, Mitch spoke up again: "It's okay; my mom told me that my dad and Nealon brought you there, so if anything had happened to you, then he would have had to take some responsibility too." He smiled gently at her before adding: "So don't feel guilty or anything like that."

After hearing what he said, Yanis shook her head slightly while smiling softly herself: "It's not about guilt or anything."

Mitch chuckled lightly then added: "Yanis, please go home now; I'll take these things inside myself instead, so don't bring any more tomorrow, or else my mom will get mad."

Although wanting to explain more about this topic, ultimately she said nothing more about it."Okay."

Yanis stood at the entrance of the hospital and wanted to watch Mitch go in first, but Mitch insisted on watching Yanis get on the car first and then leave.

Finally Yanis turned around and got into the car, waving at Mitch as the car drove away.

Standing in front of the hospital, Mitch waved back at Yanis. Watching the car go away, Mitch turned and entered the hospital.

The hospital is always quiet at night. There are no people coming and going.

Mitch didn't take the elevator with his backpack, but instead walked slowly up the stairs to the twelfth floor where the ward was located.

Marnon's room was on the twelfth floor.

Mitch climbed all twelve floors in one breath, feeling a bit out of breath when he arrived. But it was also relatively easy because since he moved here, Mitch had been taking the stairs every night.

As soon as Mitch reached Marnon's door, he heard Reed's voice. It carried a hint of crying as she tried to persuade Marnon to take her medicine.

Reed called out "Mom" repeatedly like she was coaxing a child. Marnon had been forgetful lately and sometimes even aggressive towards anyone who came near her.

The doctor said this was a normal reaction and that with active treatment, she could live longer, but her memory would deteriorate until her IQ dropped to that of a child on her last day alive.

Mitch stood outside listening for quite some time before finally pushing open the door and walking in. Reed had just finished coaxing Marnon into taking her medicine when Mitch entered.

But as soon as Marnon saw Mitch come in, she put down her water glass heavily on top of a nearby table and asked: "Did you skip class again today?"

At first stunned by what Marnon said, it took Mitch a while before he realized what she meant. He walked over to pick up the water glass that Marnon had set aside earlier, then handed it back to her and said, "Nope! I went to class today! The teacher even praised me! You should take your medicine first."

Marnon stared at him for quite some time before snatching back her water glass from his hand, and then took her medicine.

Afterwards, Marnon handed back over the water glass while saying: "Go ahead and rest now; I'll get some sleep." Mitch said, "I'll watch you right here."

Without any response from Marnon, Mitch knew that she must have fallen asleep quickly after lying down under the cover again. Once sure that Marno had fallen asleep, Mitch looked up at Reed, who was sitting beside him in bed, "Have you eaten dinner yet?"

Reed nodded, "The nurse who on shift tonight bought dinner for us. I gave money already."

"Here's some cash," Mitch said, pulling out several hundred dollar bills from his backpack, "use this tomorrow morning to buy fruit or anything else Mom may want, and keep whatever is left for yourself." Reed looked at the money and asked, "Where did you get this money, Mitch?"

Mitch bowed and stuffed the cash into Reed's hand. "It's my salary from work. Got it today."

After putting away his bag, Mitch said nonchalantly, "I saw Yanis at work tonight. She'll be coming over tomorrow." He pointed to a large bag he had set aside earlier and added, "She bought all that stuff. Go take a look and see if there's anything you want to eat."

Reed followed Mitch's gesture and frowned when he saw the huge pile of food in the bag. "Mom won't be happy about this," she muttered.

"If I didn't bring it home tonight, she'd buy even more tomorrow," Mitch explained with a shrug. "Then Mom would really lose it."

Reed wanted to argue, but couldn't find the right words to say, so he just nodded silently.

He didn't eat much that night, but picked out two small bread rolls from among all the food in the bag instead. "How did you meet Yanis? Where do you work?" Reed asked as she chewed on her bread. Mitch pursed his lips before answering softly with an affirmative hum: "Just eat your food first, then go sleep; I'll keep watch tonight."

"Aren't you going back home to see Mia and Payne?" Reed asked.

"I told them I wouldn't be going back tonight. When I left in the morning, I had prepared dinner for them," replied Mitch, "Don't worry about them though - bring them here tomorrow morning, so Yanis can see Mia."

Reed nodded slightly while biting the bread roll again: "Okay."

Yanis and Zane returned to the studio. She checked her watch then turned towards Zane: "Let me help treat your injury on your face before heading back?"

Zane shook his head lightly after hearing what Yanis said while touching where Foster had hit him earlier: "No need. It's getting late now so just go rest early."

Normally Zane would have stayed longer with Yanis. But today he couldn't. If he went inside her place now, then chances are high that he might not want to leave anymore which was why he declined her offer instead.

Yanis looked at the wound on his face and pulled him out of the car. "Deal with it before you go back."
