Chapter 619: I am Content When My Family is Together

The place where Yanis lived was only a short distance from St. Mary Hospital. It took her only ten minutes to walk to the ward where Reed and Marnon were talking when she arrived.

As soon as Yanis entered the room, Reed looked up and greeted her, "Yanis, you're here." He then walked over and took something from Yanis' hand before inviting her to sit down.

Just as Yanis was about to say hello to Marnon, one of Marnon's questions caught her off guard. "Reed, who is she?" Marnon asked while looking at Reed.

Upon hearing this question from Marnon, Yanis turned towards Reed for an answer. With a smile on her face, Reed replied, "Mom, she's Yanis. She stayed with us for quite some time before; don't you remember?"

Marnon seemed lost in thought for a moment as she gazed at Yanis' face before finally nodding in agreement,"Oh yes! I remember now."

Afterwards, Marnon asked, "Why did you come alone?" Thinking that Marnon remembered Zane, Yanis responded by saying,"He's busy at work."

Marnon exclaimed, "But isn't he just around one year old? How could he be busy with work?"

"Mom!"Reed shouted out loud trying to remind her mother, but it seemed like there was no response coming back. Meanwhile, Maron continued, "Did his father take him away?"

It suddenly dawned on Yanis that Marlon must have been referring back when they were still living in Viteto. Yanis felt cold all over again, even though so much time had passed since then. The baby... was so close yet never got a chance to see this beautiful world before passing away.

Seeing that Yanin wasn't responding, Maron stopped talking all of sudden. It became quiet. Reed quickly spoke up: "Mom, you should eat first. You said you were hungry, right?" She then placed food on the table and handed Marlon a fork. Marnon responded with a nod, looking at Yanis. "Have you eaten yet?"

The conversation seemed casual, as if nothing was wrong.

Yanis nodded. "I already ate. You go ahead."

Marnon ate in silence, just like before.

Reed looked at Yanis and said, "Yanis, why don't you eat some more?"

Yanis shook her head. "You go ahead. I already ate before coming here."

In fact, Yanis wasn't very hungry and had only taken a few bites of food before rushing to the hospital.

Now she had even less appetite.

Reed glanced at Yanis several times and wanted to say something, but stopped when she saw that Yanis seemed distracted.

After their meal, Marnon said that she wanted to sleep and went straight to bed without another word.

Reed cleaned up the table and then escorted Yanis to the elevator door.

"Yanis," Reed said as they walked. "Don't take my mother's words too seriously. Her memory has been a bit jumbled these past few days; sometimes she remembers my father and asks when he'll be back." Yanis didn't know how to feel about Reed's words; she just felt heavy-hearted.

"What about everything else?" asked Yanis after a moment of silence between them.

"Everything else is normal enough," replied Reed with a shrug. "It's just her memory that's messed up - one minute she remembers this thing or person, then it changes again later on." Reed briefly explained Marnon's condition.

After listening quietly for some time, Yanis sighed softly: "Is Mitch coming tonight?"

"Yeah," confirmed Reed with a nod. "Sometimes Natasha comes along with Payne too, so I can rest while they work. My brother works hard all day long."

Though she had thought of hiring a nurse, Yannis swallowed her words again. She had done enough by making sure Mitch accepted what she was doing now. If she offered more help, it would be difficult for them to agree.

So Yannis didn't say anything more in front of Reed.

"Oh yeah, I asked my friend to help Mitch, Taylor and Payne find a school. If you want me to do anything else, you can tell me. I'll help you..."

"I don't really have anything specific in mind," replied Reed softly."I just hope my mom will get better soon. That's all I care about - being together as family. That's enough for me too. I don't want much else besides that. Yannis, don't worry yourself over it. Take care of yourself first."Yanis reached out and lightly touched Reed's head, saying softly, "Girls always have to plan for their future."

Reed nodded. "I know that. If I ever want to do something in the future, I'll ask you for advice."

Yanis replied with a sound of agreement. "Sure thing. Just let me know anytime."

The two chatted for a while in the elevator before Yanis left the hospital.

After leaving the hospital, Yanis had intended to go back to her shop but received a call from Myles on the way. He said he had found someone who could help with finding people and schools, but he was currently not in Manches City, so he asked Yanis to meet with them first and explain Mia's situation, so they would have an idea.

After getting the address, phone number, and name of the person she needed to meet from Myles, Yanis drove straight there.

The meeting place was at a tea house on the edge of Manches City Center.

When she heard it was at a tea house, Yanis subconsciously thought that it would be an older man around forty years old, since men around that age usually develop a habit of drinking tea. But when she saw him in person, she realized she was wrong.

Drinking tea doesn't necessarily mean anything about age.

The man looked like he was only twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old without even thirty yet.

"Hello, Mr. Lamb, I'm Yanis," greeted Yanis.

Marquis stood up and shook hands with her, politely saying: "Hello Miss Thompson, I'm Marquis Lamb."

After introducing themselves properly they both took their seats.

"Myles told me about the situation, but his explanation wasn't complete enough, so I wanted more detailed information about these children," said Marquis seriously after sitting down again. "Although my school is private, we still need to understand certain background information clearly."

Yanis nodded understandingly: "I get it."

Marquis seemed different from anyone else whom Yannis had met before; when talking about business, he looked very serious without any smile or laugh.

But after finishing what needed to be discussed, his lips curved into a smile that made him look totally different than just now; like someone who can split into two personalities - one being serious during work time, while another being relaxed afterwards.

However, Yanis also understood some things Marquis mentioned during their conversation.
