Chapter 691 We are Suitable to be Lovers

Upon hearing a sound, Yanis followed Ivan's gaze and looked over. Due to the lighting, she couldn't see very clearly. When she tried to get a better look, Darin's voice interrupted her thoughts. "Why aren't you going in? What are you doing standing out here?"

Yanis had no choice but to retract her gaze due to Darin's voice. "We just got here."

"Go inside, everyone is almost there," Darin said.

Yanis nodded and followed Darin inside. As they walked, Yanis subconsciously looked over again at the person who was previously standing at the door talking on the phone but they were nowhere in sight.

When Ivan noticed Yanis' gaze, he also looked over and said, "That person earlier looks a lot like Mr. Lawrence from your house."

Upon hearing Ivan's words, Yanis glanced at his face and replied softly, "He told me he was still at work when he messaged me."

"I must have been mistaken then," Ivan whispered back.

Yanis walked with Ivan into the party where all of tonight's guests were employees of Darin's company or business partners that they worked closely with on projects. Of course there were also some close friends present as well.

"Yanis I'm going to introduce you to Vivian; she heard I was having a small gathering tonight so she came too," Darin turned his head towards Yanis and spoke softly.

After saying this he turned towards Ivan and said: "Those guys over there we've met before; go chat with them for a bit."

Ivan nodded his head saying: "Go do your thing."

After Darin left with Yanis by his side, Ivan hesitated for a moment before walking towards where Zane was standing near the entrance. As soon as he reached it, Zane walked up from one side causing them both to collide face-to-face.

Their eyes met briefly before they both spoke simultaneously: "Mr. Lawrence is this considered chasing after your wife from afar?"

Zane raised an eyebrow upon hearing this question, "What's it matter? Do you have any objections?"

Ivan chuckled, "How could I dare object? I'm just admiring Mr. Lawrence's romantic spirit."

"And what about Yanis?" Zane didn't want idle chit-chat with him so he glanced behind him asking about her whereabouts instead.

"She went off with Darin; should be back soon," answered Ivan looking directly at Zane now,"Did you not tell her that you'd be coming here today?"

Zane gave him an expression that seemed like 'you're asking something obvious' before replying :"Do I really need to tell her every little detail ?"Ivan cleared his throat. "Okay, let's pretend I didn't ask that earlier. But Yanis definitely saw you guys just now."

"She wasn't sure it was me."

"You followed us here so sneakily..."

"I got here before you guys did, so it's not really sneaky."

Before Ivan could finish his sentence, Zane interrupted him.

"Alright then, shall we go in?"

Zane nodded. "Let's go in."

Yanis and Darin hadn't arrived yet when the two of them entered.

Zane spotted Yanis standing nearby at a glance. "Are you here for work?"

Ivan leaned casually against a nearby table. "Otherwise? Should I be planning to run away with Yanis?"

Upon hearing Ivan's words, Zane looked up at him. "You can try."

Ivan met Zane's gaze and chuckled softly. "I have that thought sometimes too, but I need Yanis to cooperate with me on this one. Otherwise it'll just remain a thought."

In fact, he had already entertained this idea when he heard about Yanis' divorce from Zane earlier.

But back then he didn't have the courage to voice out this idea.

Now he was saying it out loud in front of Zane like this - as if something that had been weighing on his mind for a long time had finally been achieved.

"You've had this idea before," said Zane flatly as though stating a fact.

Ivan raised an eyebrow upon hearing that and looked at Zane's face intently."Mr Lawrence can read minds too?"

Zane smirked slightly."You picked the wrong timing for your move; therefore your plan is doomed to fail from the start."

After hearing what Zan said, Ivan turned towards him."What? You sound disappointed even though I haven't done anything yet?"

"When we divorced years ago, you came back because of Yanis, but she couldn't erase me from her heart so quickly, and she wasn't ready for another relationship. Then there were all sorts of entanglements between us. You missed your chance during those times."

At these words, Zan paused briefly before looking up at Ivan again."Do you know when would be the best time?"

Without saying anything, Ivan just stared at him waiting for what comes next

"If you're not engaged to Miss Yuan, and if she has another miscarriage, Yanis will follow you without hesitation. There won't be any doubt or hesitation,"said zanAt that time, Zane felt Yanis' despair.

If he hadn't persisted so much, if Ivan had really done what he said,

then Zane and Yanis might not have had any chance for the rest of their lives.

If Ivan had really said at that time that he wanted to run away with Yanis, even if Yanis didn't like Ivan, she would have chosen to leave Manches City with him just to get away from Zane and never come back. After hearing Zane's words, Ivan was silent for a few seconds. "That's a shame."

"Do you regret it?"

Ivan took two glasses of wine from the waiter who came over. He handed one to Zane and held one in his hand. "Regret what? Regret not running away with Yanis?"

Zane nodded.

"What's there to regret? Since we both missed such a good opportunity, it can only mean that we're not suitable as lovers and can only be friends."

Ivan clinked glasses with Zane as he spoke. "Compared to being lovers, I prefer being friends with Yanis because friends don't have the chance of breaking up easily. We can eat together anytime anywhere or

go shopping or even talk about anything we want without worrying about anything unexpected happening like when you're in a relationship which could end up very embarrassing."

Zane listened but didn't say anything because what Ivan said was true.

Between opposite sexes, only friends won't break up easily while lovers face all kinds of unexpected things they cannot predict beforehand.

Zane picked up his glass and took a sip of wine. "Being friends is good."

Ivan raised an eyebrow. "Do you want to try being friends with Yanis then?"

Zane shook his head. "We've tried before; we're better off as lovers."

Ivan: "..."

On the other side,

Vivian smiled at Yanis and whispered softly," I've seen Miss Thompson's designs before; they're great! So my friend has been wanting your contact information for some time now but I've been too busy dealing with my own affairs lately so I haven't had time until now when she's been bugging me non-stop asking for it which is why I came looking for Darin today hoping he could help us connect."
