I’m Not Yours, Alpha – Chapter 65

-Nolan,” Julian’s voice echoed behind the alpha who turned around.

-One moment,” he said into the cell phone and focused on the omega, “Honey, give me some space, I’m talking business,” she blew him a k**s and turned around, turning her back to him again.

He didn’t even flinch. Instead his gaze was fixed on the cruise ship that was visible on the other side of the large windows of the station. A smile tugged at his lips before disappearing again. Nolan finally hung up and faced him.

-You can’t imagine how happy I am that you’re by my side right now,” he caressed Julian’s cheek, “This time we’re going to be really happy. I bought a new house on the outskirts of town where you won’t be disturbed.

Julian bowed his head. A new house to keep him like a bird in a glass cage where he would always be waiting for him every willing evening. With all his memories intact that was the only conclusion he could draw.

-When we get there I’ll buy you a new cell phone, as well as some clothes,” he looked at the small bag he had, “I’m glad you got rid of everything. Now we’ll start again and as soon as you have your heat I’ll mark you so that no one can take you away from me.

Julian wanted to laugh, but refrained. The alpha had it all planned. Too bad he had no desire to be part of that future.

In the distance the order to board the cruiser was heard and he put his hand on her lower back. Julian felt her pheromones envelop her in a dominant way and begging for submission, as he always desired, this time he closed his eyes and tried to calm himself. This was no time to be weak. Still she shuddered and Nolan smiled at her reaction.

-That’s the way I like it- he complimented him complacently- I’m so grateful that someone as submissive as you is my destined mate. You’re always so faithful to me- He grabbed her hand tightly- And this time don’t think I’m going to let you get away like that time you ran away from the hospital- he murmured against her ear- You know what will happen if that happens-.

He swallowed dryly. She was right, Nolan hadn’t changed at all. He let himself be dragged into the cruise ship. The trip would be five days. Days that would be long enough.

Dominic looked over the papers Leo had left him earlier, sitting on the couch in his apartment. He hoped that Madox would call him soon, as there were still a few minutes before he was due to get off the plane in another country.

-Aidan sat down next to him and offered him a cup of coffee. He was anxious to have answers as well. Julian was after all his friend.

-Not much really- he sighed and drank all the liquid in one sip- but I think this might do something. I never imagined that someone could be so deep in shit.

He raised an eyebrow.

-It’s weird to hear you say something so vulgar.

Dominic snorted lightly and kissed her cheek.

-I’ll watch my language, but now that’s what needed to be said,” he showed him one of the papers, “You see this? Do you think anyone can process that much money in a single day from a single account?

Aidan looked at the writing on the paper and his brow furrowed.

-My field is not economics, but with my little knowledge of transactions, this looks pretty shady,” he said.

-If that’s how you see it, how do you think I see it,” he ran his hand through his tousled blond hair, “A company can move a lot of money but it always has a backing, but these profits have no fixed source or destination or origin.

-He drew the most logical conclusion.

Dominic shook his head.

-The drug world brings in a lot of money, but it’s easy to get caught. People can loosen their tongues.” He reached for another piece of paper. Sometimes he wondered where the hell Leo would go to get him the information. It’s the hottest business on the black market right now. It had been four days since Julian had entered the cruise ship. If movement came from him he would fake a retch and of course, he couldn’t miss a little powder three shades lighter than his skin tone to give the appearance that he was paler.

But time was running out, in less than 24 hours they would reach their destination and the chances of their plan working, were running out.

-Yeah, I know, don’t f**k with me about it anymore- Nolan came out of the bathroom with only a towel around his waist and talking on his cell phone.

Julian pretended to sleep again. She hoped he would loosen his tongue once and for all. And knowing him well, she knew he would let his guard down at some point.

-What else do you want me to do,” she heard him growl, “I’ve got all the papers to use against that guy in the hidden pocket of my suitcase. Let him get the f**k here so you can get copies of them and claim his money,” he plopped down on the couch and waited for an apparent response from the other side.

Julian’s heart was pounding. He was finally talking, after four dark days.

-Yes, I know. They’re the only ones. I had to pay a lot of money to be able to look for what I could affect. That jerk’s record is almost impeccable. Too bad he’s in the habit of sleeping around. Thanks to that we can falsify a DNA test to pass someone off as his son and his supposedly abandoned partner- he laughed- I want it to be made as public as possible, in all the world’s media. He stood up, leaving the cell phone on the sofa and leaned back contentedly. His eyes fixed on the still back of his omega on the bed.

Julian’s eyes were wide as he listened to him. He was trying to control his breathing as the memories crossed his mind over and over again. The anguish of that moment. The pain that shot through his body. The loss of the life that had been created within her.

After all, despite being his destined mate, Nolan’s family had never accepted him and it was because Nolan had locked him in the house against his parents’ wishes that their hatred of him had grown. And when they had the opportunity they had taken it to get rid of him.

Perhaps it was for the best. After all, one hated him and the other kept him captive in a room all the time depriving him of everything, even his freedom.

Like when they tell you that you never know people until you live with them. Nolan was one thing in the first few months of dating while they each lived separately. But once he had set foot in the house by way of supposed visitation, everything had gone to hell.
