I’m Not Yours, Alpha – Chapter 67

The alpha who had left was not at all like the one in front of him. The Madox of now had put on weight, perhaps not so much as to be alarmed or lose muscle mass but worrying for someone who valued his figure. His hair had grown breaking his usual cut and was parched, there was the shadow of a beard on his face. But if only that was the worst of it, it was the lifeless face of this one.

He had huge dark circles under his eyes that in and of themselves had hardly any sparkle to them. It was as if nothing around him was stimulating him.

-Madox,” Dominic called out to him.

Aidan arrived a short time later and stood beside him, placing a hand on the alpha’s arm. He understood what he was suffering through. It took him almost two days to get back on his feet and it was thanks to Dominic who gave him a push to get himself together.

-Take me to the nearest bar, take me to your place, to mine. It doesn’t matter but let there be alcohol, lots of alcohol. I need to drink so I can forget everything or I swear I’ll go crazy,” he sounded so tired it was pitiful.

Aidan pursed his lips and looked at his alpha and nodded to him. The alpha grabbed his friend’s suitcase and with the other helped guide him out of the airport. It wasn’t that Madox needed help walking but he felt that if he didn’t help him he would collapse at any moment.

-Dominic, take him home and stay with him,” Aidan kissed his cheek, “I’ll take a cab.

-Are you sure?” He looked at him doubtfully.

Aidan nodded.

-Madox needs to be somewhere where he feels safe and with someone who can listen to him and comfort him,” he took one last look at Madox and had to swallow dryly, “Don’t give him alcohol. That will only drown his sorrows for a while and only hurt him more.

Dominic kissed his forehead and helped Madox into the car while he did so in the driver’s seat. Aidan waited for the car to disappear from his sight as he ran his hand through his hair and his eyes reddened. The news of Julian’s death had come as a huge shock. The omega would never imagine how important he was in their lives.

He sighed and raised his hand to hail a cab. He was to go to the house and prepare something for dinner and then take it to Madox. He could tell he had been skipping meals for a while. What he didn’t expect was to find two people in front of the apartment door.

-Hello,” he asked, stopping behind them.

But at once he knew who they were. There was no doubt, Dominic’s physical features were divided between those two people- Are you…? he couldn’t finish the sentence because he was interrupted.

-Dominic’s parents,” the woman’s eyes narrowed, examining Aidan closely, “Where is he?

Aidan smiled slightly. What a day they were both having and no one was doing their part.

Dominic parked the car and dropped his head on the steering wheel. Having Madox in that state was not something you got used to. He had gone back to the house to get some clothes for him and food to stay that night at his house. I didn’t want to leave him alone for too long, lest he do something crazy. Madox was very emotionally unstable.

She got out of the car and went up the elevator. Approaching the door of his apartment he stopped and breathed in. His eyes widened and he quickly opened the door to find his parents sitting on the big couch and across from them Aidan. So calm he didn’t know whether to be scared or calm.

-Dominic, at last you deign to come back,” Ophelia stood up elegantly and approached her son, “Aren’t you going to give me a k**s? It’s enough that you disappear all the time you want and break the engagement without our consent,” Ophelia said.

Dominic scratched his cheek nervously and looked at his father studying his reaction.

-Ofe, don’t suffocate the puppy,” he said to the woman in a low but pleasant voice and then took a sip of tea from his cup, “Besides, what will his partner think if you treat him like that?

Yes, mother, I am already an alpha and I don’t need someone to direct my life- she tried to be as polite as possible- And I hope you will respect my decision as Aidan is my destined mate, my omega and my future husband- her tone was firm by the time she finished.

Aidan’s mouth dropped open. He never imagined Dominic would have thought of marriage, at least not anytime soon, as that was a betas thing. They had a bond that bound them for life and he thought that was enough. His shock showed on his face.

-Dominic, you should be careful what you say, you even took your omega by surprise,” Reish, the tall blond alpha stood up and walked over to his son, grabbed his mother’s shoulders and pulled her back towards the couch.

Dominic sighed and sat down next to Aidan grabbing his hand. His mother’s face was frozen in a strange grimace.

-Mother, I know you want what’s best for me, but I expect you to respect my decision,” he said.

Reish stroked the mark on the back of his wife’s neck to calm her.

-Honey, the puppy can’t be the baby of the house all the time, you have to let him run on his own,” she whispered.

Ophelia pressed her lips together and focused Aidan hard. The omega in front of him smiled slightly as he had before and was not intimidated.

-If you make my son suffer we will have serious problems from omega to omega,” he said.

Aidan didn’t feel dejected by the dawn, instead he took another sip of tea from his cup which he then passed to Dominic to clear his throat.

-Don’t worry, I have no intention of that. Your son and I work well together, as you can see now.

Ophelia narrowed her eyes and sat up with a start. Normally, even though she was an omega, she had always had everyone at her feet given her beauty and the power of her family, but the boy her son had chosen had not relented the entire hour he had trained her to back down.

-Reish, we’re leaving,” she grabbed her purse and settled it on her arm, “Next week I want you all at my house for dinner. Don’t miss- she turned and walked to the door in her elegant high heels.

The named one stood up and let his shoulders slump.

-Don’t pay too much attention to your mother, she hasn’t seen you for a long time and when she does she notices you’ve been put on a leash- Reish chuckled under his breath and reached out grabbing Aidan’s hand- It was nice to meet you- -It was nice to meet you- -I’m sorry to meet you- -I’m sorry to meet you-.

Dominic frowned at the polite act but for a bonded omega and with his alpha at his side it could be a little out of place. Reish snorted at his son’s reaction and straightened up.

-Don’t worry, I won’t take him. You’re just as possessive as I was when I was younger, although I’ve learned to pull myself together,” he patted his son’s shoulder, “And I recommend you go to dinner and bring clothes to stay over for a night. She expects a lot of explanations as to why you didn’t tell her about breaking up with Dulse, let alone that your intended mate had bonded with you. You know her.

-Father, we won’t be absent, but keep mother in check. I don’t want Aidan to feel uncomfortable with her,” she said, walking him to the door, “my omega can’t get too upset, it hasn’t been long since she left the hospital due to an overload in her heart.

-Don’t worry, if your mother hadn’t accepted him, do you think she would have allowed him in the house?

Dominic shook his head.

-Sometimes I wonder who’s in charge in their relationship.

Reish leaned closer and whispered in his ear so his wife, who was standing nearby, wouldn’t hear him.

-I am, of course, but I make her think she is. It’s better that way.

And Dominic couldn’t help but hide a big smile. His father could be strict but today you could tell he was in a good mood to find that he had just bonded. He was surely thinking about grandchildren. Something that would have to wait since Aidan was still undergoing hormone treatment to level out his body.

Once Dominic closed the door he rested his back against it and ruffled his hair. He was exhausted, the least he expected was to have to deal with his parents. He felt Aidan’s hands against his chest and hugged him around the waist pulling him to him and kissing his lips. That was the best comfort he could have that day.

The omega answered him and nuzzled the alpha’s neck where there was a huge knot of tension. Dominic let his forehead rest against his, catching his breath once he released it.

-Excuse my parents. They’re particular-

-Apart from the part about your mother almost glaring at me at every turn, they didn’t bother me at all. Rather, they’re interesting,” he said sincerely.

-Do you want to go to the dinner he’s going to prepare? If it bothers you, I can refuse.

I don’t think the mother-in-law likes me too much to refuse his invitation.

Dominic was hesitant but did not stress the issue any further. His mind had priorities now.

-I must get back to Madox, I’ll stay the night with him to check on his condition.

He nodded.

-I’ll prepare something quick for you to take him. He seriously needs to eat or he may collapse.

He kissed the tip of her nose.

-I’ll take care of it, love.

Aidan’s cheeks flushed before he spoke again.

-And when everything is calmer, I’m ready to talk about what you said,” she studied his reaction.

Dominic’s eyes sparkled.
