It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 6
“Honey, what are you doing here arguing with these people?”
At the sound of the deep, magnetic voice, Lucia, Mina and Jonah turned around at the same time. Seeing who it was, Lucia was speechless.
“Who is this guy? After Jonah dumped you, you found this gigolo to play with, huh?” giggled Mina. This man was extremely handsome, and she was jealous.
“After all, Lucia is just another girl. She doesn’t come from a higher class and is forced to work hard to make ends meet. So how could she be with a society man? Any upper-class man who might be interested in her would have to be very old.” Mina figured the handsome man must be a gigolo, sleeping with rich women for money.
“Darling, how can you taste so bad?” With one hand in his pants pocket and the other encircling Lucia’s waist, Malcolm raised the corners of his lips charmingly. Although it was such a simple question, there was clearly a sarcastic tone to it. Despite his beautiful smile, his tone sent a chill down their spines.
“You must be some kind of gigolo who sleeps with people for money. Don’t make a fool of yourself,” Mina immediately retorted.
“Okay, Mina, let’s go home.” Jonah pulled Mina aside before she could say anything too offensive.
Even though the man in front of him looked completely harmless, Jonah was clearly intimidated by him.
“Jonah, do you still love her? Why does it bother you so much that I’m mean to her? Don’t forget that if it wasn’t for me, you’d still be working to earn your daily bread!” said Mina, furiously, gritting her teeth.
“Oh, yeah? Gomez Properties, right?” asked Malcolm, frowning after thinking for a moment.
“You’re at least reasonable enough for a commoner!” Mina gave him a contemptuous look.
Although Malcolm’s suit was elegant, it bore no designer label. She thought it must be an expensive outfit from an ordinary store.
“Lucia, only a man with empty pockets like him would be with someone like you. Jonah doesn’t want you. You’re like an old pair of shoes.” Mina didn’t want to let Lucia go so easily.
Lucia’s clenched fists began to sweat slightly. She couldn’t stand someone like Mina laughing at her. She wanted to shake off Malcolm’s hand and leave immediately. But she failed.
“I’m sorry,” Lucia whispered in Malcolm’s ear after turning around and standing on tiptoe.
Silently, he looked deep into her eyes. Stopping struggling, she wrapped her arms around Malcolm’s neck and kissed him. For a second, he tried to hold back his urge to k**s her back, but he couldn’t. They began kissing passionately, as if they were alone in this place. Only when Lucia was breathless did Malcolm let go.
“What did you say now? Do you really think my boyfriend needs validation from the likes of you? I think you’ve got the wrong idea. I dumped Jonah, and you welcomed him into your arms. Do you have any more questions for me?” Lucia’s tone of voice was cold and her smile was sly.
“All right then. Tell me, what’s your nutty boyfriend up to?” Mina didn’t want to become a laughing stock. She couldn’t believe that Lucia could date an exceptional man.
“Me? Well, I’m just an ordinary office worker,” Malcolm replied casually.
“At least an office worker is better than a pimp, I guess! Do you also work for a cheap media company like her?” It was clear Mina was looking down on him.
Looking at Malcolm, Lucie opened her mouth, but she didn’t say a word. She knew that a man who had treated himself to such an expensive suite at City X was certainly no ordinary guy. Perhaps it was her vanity that kept her quiet.
“Evans Group,” Malcolm replied flatly.
“Humph! Although Groupe Evans is a big company, you’re just an employee, so you’re practically nothing. But Jonah here is the general manager of Gomez Properties!” Holding Jonah’s arm firmly, Mina looked at Lucia with contempt.
“His life has nothing to do with you. It’s good that you’re a noble lady who leads a very happy life. Let’s go, Malcolm. We’re only demeaning ourselves by talking to them.” With a look of disgust in her eyes, Lucia glanced at the couple facing her before leaving.
Malcolm still wore a slight smile, but his eyes had a slight gleam as he followed her. He held Lucia’s waist in one hand as if declaring that she belonged to him. And just before he left, he glanced at Mina and Jonah with a frown.
“You can let yourself go now. I’m sorry I used you,” Lucia said calmly, trying to keep a distance from him.
“Why don’t you keep playing?” asked Malcolm, lifting his chin with his finger. “Are you worried that my status isn’t as good as hers?” chuckled Malcolm.
“If you can afford such a luxurious suite, then you’re no ordinary guy, that’s undeniable! It’s just that this game isn’t interesting anymore,” Lucia replied coldly, pushing his hand away from her chin.
“Oh, yeah? You seem to have a lot of confidence in me.” With that, Malcolm let go of her.
“Why did you come here anyway?” Lucia suddenly felt that the coincidence of his appearance was simply ridiculous.
Their meeting at Town X had been an accident. How could they meet again in city S? And under such strange circumstances?
“Obviously, we were destined to meet again.” Smiling, Malcolm flashed his dimples. His voice was so magnetizing and irresistible.
“Huh?” Thinking about it, Lucia’s mind went blank. “Does he mean we have to make love tonight too?” Distraught, she rolled her eyes and was about to leave.
“Oh my God! A hero has saved the beautiful one! Lucia, tell us, who is this handsome man? Are you two together? Wow, you’ve kissed…”
When she didn’t return after a long time, Lucia’s colleagues thought something might have happened to her, so they came looking for her. That’s when they saw Mina arguing with her. They were about to help Lucia when they saw Malcolm.
“Don’t talk with an exaggeration! Otherwise, I’ll say something to your girlfriend!” Lucia warned Hayes.
“Damn it, why do women always have to be such crafty creatures? You’re poison, Lucia! Since you’ve got your hero on your side, we’ll have some fun alone. I’m sure every moment of your romantic night with him will be precious, so don’t miss out,” Hayes teased.
“I’m leaving now!” Not anxious to talk nonsense, Lucia left.
And Malcolm followed. It was obvious that her appearance was no mere coincidence. After leaving his office, Malcolm had gone to Lucia’s place, following the address Bob had given him. He had seen her hail a cab. Following her to the bar, he saw Mina insulting her.
Their story begins in a bar and also picks up in a bar, what a happy coincidence.
“Let me take you home.” Malcolm didn’t care if Lucia resisted him. He simply took her hand and started walking toward his car.
Without struggling, Lucia followed him.
Throughout their quiet journey, neither of them spoke. Settling back in the car, Lucia closed her eyes. The soft music was making her sleepy. So she rolled down the window to keep awake. This didn’t bother Malcolm at all, who continued driving.
He was very handsome indeed, and according to Lucia, his looks were second to none. She remembered him having long eyelashes, and now realized that his lashes were much thicker than she’d thought. His concentration at the wheel only added to his charm.
“Are you satisfied now?” asked Malcolm suddenly, turning to look at Lucia, who was in a dazed state.
He knew she’d been staring at him for a while now. Lucia was gazing at him as if she didn’t want to miss out on enjoying every bit of him.
“Yes. I’m so happy I want to make you mine,” Lucia replied casually. After so many drinks at the bar, her tone was laced with seduction.
“Here we are.” Malcolm ignored her words and looked at her, indicating they had arrived.
After parking the car in the basement, he walked around it to open the door for her like a true gentleman. Lucia was taken by surprise. She was used to people treating her lightly, and hadn’t expected to be treated like a princess.
“Where am I?” as soon as the early summer breeze brushed her skin, she sobered up. This was clearly not her home, nor was it a place she knew.
“We’re at my place,” Malcolm said coldly.
On hearing this, Lucia was speechless. Indeed, it was the first time a man had taken her home so easily.
“Didn’t you want to make me yours?” chuckled Malcolm. Lucia was the first woman in his life to tell him she wanted him for herself.
However, she was still in shock. His flippant words had bitten her in the back. She’d been drunk when she’d been fascinated by his looks, which was why she’d said that in the car. Suddenly, she burst out laughing. The first time she’d met him at X City, she’d gone to his room without a single question, and now she was doing the same. How she was unable to resist him was a mystery to her. “Does he have magical powers?”
Malcolm put his arm around her waist as he accompanied her to the elevator. And it was only after reaching the top floor of the building that the elevator stopped. He then swiped the magnetic card and entered the password before opening the door and entering.
The apartment had a classic yet modern decor. It was a very large duplex. The beautiful French windows in the living room piqued Lucia’s curiosity. Looking out of the windows, she enjoyed the most beautiful view of the city. Curiously, the night was starry, and Lucia just stood there looking up at the sky.
“So, is it beautiful?” asked Malcolm softly as he approached her and kissed her from behind.
“Yes, it is. Do you know how rare it is to see stars in S Town? I thought all the stars here had disappeared into the dark sky.” Under the night sky, Lucia could no longer resist Malcolm and leaned against his chest.
“What’s on your mind? I’m going to give you a gift in exchange for your thoughts,” Malcolm said casually.
“My thoughts are very precious, so what gift are you going to give me in exchange?” asked Lucia, giggling.
“I can give you anything you can hope for,” Malcolm said calmly, still hugging her tightly.
“I want a wedding. Can you give it to me?” At these words, Lucia stared at him for a moment before bursting out laughing.
She didn’t know him at all. She’d slept with him once, and she knew his name was Malcolm. However, she didn’t even know if the name was really his. What’s more, she had no idea what he did for a living either. Given his mannerisms, she figured he must have come from a good family background. But then again, a liar would also be very adept at acting.
“Oh, come on! Don’t look at me like that, I was only joking. I don’t need any presents. I was just reminiscing about my past,” Lucia laughed when she turned and saw Malcolm’s frown.
After all, anyone would be shocked if someone proposed to him after meeting him only twice. They’d wonder if the person proposing was crazy, or if they’d heard wrong. So it was only natural that Malcolm would seem confused after hearing this from her.
“I…” Malcolm paused, looking at Lucia with a strange gleam in his eyes.
