It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 67
Nothing could give Lucia energy like good food did. Lucia and Lowell always planned to meet at Kenneth’s cafe, but instead of going inside, they decided to meet at the entrance. When Lucia arrived at the cafe, she was stunned to see a Porsche car parked outside, and just as she was about to walk towards the door, she saw Lowell getting out of the car.
He looked very well dressed, unlike his usual appearance. He wore a black suit jacket, a well-fitted sapphire blue shirt underneath, and tailored pants. He smiled weakly as he walked towards her. Lucia waved before walking to her car, opening the door and getting in. After looking at her, Lowell returned to the driver’s seat.
His sports car drove down the road covered with phoenix leaves.
“Look at you! You’re dressed so elegantly. It makes me nervous to go to a restaurant.”
Glancing at her elegant outfit, Lucia looked at her clothes and felt embarrassed. She was wearing short jeans, a t-shirt, a cardigan over it, and a pair of flip-flops. Her hair was held back by a claw clip and her face was simple. She wore no makeup. She looked a little better than being messy. As they were heading to a private restaurant that was not yet open to the public, she couldn’t help but wonder if his clothes were too casual for the occasion. And naturally, she was very embarrassed.
“You’re my guest, and the restaurant will have no problem with your outfit. Don’t worry,” Lowell said to put her at ease.
“Even if they have a problem with me, they can’t throw me out until I have enough to eat,” Lucia retorted with a pout.
With a chuckle, Lowell shook his head and continued to concentrate on driving. He didn’t say anything to her on the way. Lucia took her headphones out of her bag and put them on, shrugging her shoulders. As the cool evening breeze brushed against her skin, she listened to music while resting her head against the seat. It had only been a few days since her surgery, so she hadn’t regained her strength yet, and that was why she was using every chance she had to rest.
“Lucie, we’re here. Get out of the car,” Lowell said with a frown, trying to wake her up. His voice was low as he stared at her dazedly.
“Are we there already?” I fell asleep! Sorry about that,” Lucia said with an embarrassed smile as she got out of the car.
After handing over her car keys to the valet, Lowell took her into the restaurant. Lucia followed closely behind him and watched as he showed his membership card to security, who escorted them inside after swiping the card through the machine. She looked around in amazement as if she were a villager just seeing the city. Lowell didn’t want to disturb her, so he gently asked security to continue leading the way.
It was a Chinese style restaurant that was decorated with the best quality rosewood furniture and items. There was a beautiful bridge and a river design that was carved on the door. After all, businessmen have paid a lot of attention to the principles of feng shui. Lucia was lost in thought as she took in the beautiful scenery. There was no communal dining area in the restaurant, each customer was seated in a private booth. Each private cabin had its own door, which was closed at all times. When a customer wanted to order, he called the waiter who was at the door during his meal. No one could see what was happening inside these private cabins. The waiter was not allowed into the booth unless the customer called him. Even when a waiter brought food, he had to wait for the customer to let him in.
Lucia was amazed looking at how everything happened there. Lowell frowned when he saw that she was dazed and grabbed her hand, pulling her forward. However, Lucia continued to look at her surroundings. It was only after they entered one of the private cabins that she realized he was still holding her hand.
Feeling embarrassed, she quickly removed her hand. Lowell stretched out his arms and sat down, saying nothing. It was a small cabin that could only accommodate four people. And this cabin was decorated in Japanese style. Seeing that Lowell had sat down, Lucia quickly took the seat opposite him.
“Sorry, I was so fascinated by the place,” she said awkwardly.
“It’s okay,” Lowell said with a slight smile, assuring him that everything was okay.
After giving the signal, the waiter brought the food. Lucia raised her eyebrows in confusion when she saw that most of the food that was served was quite ordinary. But when she took a bite under Lowell’s guidance, she couldn’t help but praise it. There was a refreshing and pleasant taste to the food that was unlike any food she had tasted before.
One after another, she tried all the delicious dishes. Lowell didn’t eat much. He just took occasional bites while he watched her eat. He was so quiet as he sipped his tea, it was like he didn’t exist.
After eating her fill, Lucia was stuffed and leaned against the couch, looking at him in confusion. She found it rare to see a man who preferred to have tea and not alcohol. Although the tea looked quite plain, the scent was enough for her to understand that it was probably the best quality tea that money can buy. After all, those who could afford to dine here would obviously have a very refined palate.
“Is there anything you’d like to ask?” Lowell asked lightly looking at her confused expression.
“Do you like tea? Well, I find it rare for a man to like tea, because most men generally prefer alcohol,” Lucia said frankly.
“So you know a lot about men, huh?” Lowell teased casually.
“Well, sort of… But you’re the first man I’ve met who likes tea.” Lucia looked at him and shrugged her shoulders.
“Tea is known for making people think calmly, unlike alcohol, which makes people lose themselves,” Lowell said, glancing at him as he took a sip of tea.
“You’re almost like a philosopher. Now I’m really curious about you and your work,” Lucia said, raising her eyebrows. “I’m
a businessman,” Lowell replied bluntly.
Hearing this, Lucia didn’t didn’t know how to react. There was a sudden feeling of awkwardness between them, and they both fell silent. The next moment, Lucia grabbed the glass and drank the water in one gulp.
“Have you been feeling tired lately?” You were sleeping on our way here,” Lowell asked coldly, putting down his cup. He broke the ice between them.
“I was having health problems and I’m recovering. That’s probably why I feel so tired,” Lucia blurted.
“So why did you go out to eat instead of resting at home? She felt like he was almost blaming her for having come there.
“Oh, stop trying to act like my mother! I could never pass up delicious food. Even if I were dead and someone said the word ‘food,’ I would come back to life.” Although she seemed to be joking, she was quite serious. “Are you married?” Lowell asked in a
tone casual when he noticed the ring on her finger.
“Why? Is it boring to have dinner with a married woman?” Lucia teased.
“Not at all. I actually find you quite attractive. If you hadn’t been married, I would have asked you out,” Lowell teased back. “
Well, you helped me regain my confidence, at least,” Lucia said with a wry smile
. What’s the problem?” Lowell asked in a sensitive tone.
“There are some minor problems in my life, but they should be resolved soon enough. Don’t worry, I’m fine. Oh, and thank you for a wonderful meal . It was very succulent.” Lucie was sincere. She was trying to distract herself from the things that were bothering
“You’re welcome. And if you ever want to eat here, let me know and I can make it right,” Lowell replied with a chuckle.
“Well, that’s nice.” There was a slight bitterness in his tone. She was alone.
During their pleasant days in Bhaktapur, Malcolm had said, “We can come back next year.” Remembering his words, she felt as if sadness made her heart sink. She tried to push the memory away by shaking her head. Maybe one day everything would be okay and his life would go back to the way it was.
“What is the problem?” Lowell asked in confusion as he looked at her.
“It’s nothing. I just need to go to the bathroom, so if you’ll excuse me,” Lucia said sheepishly as she stood up.
Lowell raised his eyebrows and gestured for her to continue. She came out of the private stall, asked the waiter where the toilet was and when he offered to guide her, she refused. She
used the toilet and went to the sink to wash her face. Afterwards having splashed her face with cold water, she wiped it with a tissue and prepared to return to the private cabin. However, the next second she saw a woman walking towards her and said stopped in her tracks. She hid behind a screen.
“Renée? Why is she here?
Lucia couldn’t help but be curious. She continued to look at her behind the screen. Renée was wearing subtle makeup , and she looked much better than Lucia at that moment. Her pink satin dress highlighted her beautiful fair skin. She stood in front of the mirror, fixed her makeup and smiled with satisfaction seeing her red lips.
After all, any woman would want to dress for the man she loved. A woman would show her most seductive and charming side to the man she loved. Thinking of this, Lucia thought that Renée must have a date. For some reason she felt uneasy and wanted to see who Renee was going on a date with.
So when Renee came out of the bathroom, Lucia followed her. However, she kept a safe distance from Renee. Just before Renee entered her private dining booth at the restaurant, Lucia quickened her pace and glanced inside the booth when Renee opened the door. When she saw who Renee was with, Lucia was stunned.
It was Malcolm. Lucy frowned. Perhaps the waiter had made a mistake by not closing their booth door completely. Lucia saw Renee sitting on Malcolm’s lap. It looked like they were kissing,
Suddenly, a strange feeling invaded his heart. Lucia didn’t know if she felt jealous, sad or angry. Her reason kept her from bursting into their cabin and confronting them. Under the waiter’s curious gaze, she asked him where his private cabin was and quietly followed him there.
“What happened?” Lowell asked when he saw her enter with a somber expression.
“I just saw an acquaintance of mine,” Lucia replied bluntly.
“Your husband?” Although he was only making a guess, there was a strange sense of certainty in his tone. “If it was anyone else, you wouldn’t be here with this dark look on your face. Hearing this, Lucia remained silent. She neither denied nor admitted it. She couldn’t help but think about the nature of Malcolm and Renee’s relationship. Everything that had happened in the last few days broke his heart. His expression darkened. She was no longer her usual carefree self.
“Take me back,” she said to him after regaining her senses.
“GOOD.” Without asking any more questions, Lowell stood up with a curious look as he walked towards the door.
His sports car sped away, but neither of them spoke on the way home. While they were still a little far from his apartment, Lucia got out of the car and said goodbye. She then trotted back to her apartment, all alone. It was only after seeing her disappear in the distance that Lowell walked away. There was a hint of insight in his deep eyes.
