It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 68
Renée arrived in the private room well before the appointed time and waited there quietly. As the minutes passed, she became more and more nervous. She had actually been surprised when she received the call from Enoch. She hadn’t expected Malcolm to accept her invitation, let alone meet her alone. It gave him a glimmer of hope and a pang in his heart.
After a while, Malcolm entered the private room, wearing a white shirt and black dress pants. As usual, the top two buttons of his shirt remained unbuttoned, revealing his firm chest. His eyes were devoid of emotion as he looked at Renee and sat down across from her. His lips were pressed together, showing no signs of taking the initiative to speak. All of a sudden, Renee was overcome with embarrassment. She had made up a hundred scenarios of their meeting in her head, but she hadn’t expected Malcolm to be cold enough to not even greet her. Feeling upset, she excused herself to go to the bathroom. After putting on makeup in front of the mirror, she suppressed the uneasiness bubbling in her heart and calmly returned to the private room.
This time she made direct eye contact with Malcolm without a trace of fear or anxiety in her eyes. She walked towards him slowly, step by step, then sat on his lap. Without stopping, she threw her arms around his neck and leaned in to k**s him. But before his lips could touch hers, she was pushed back mercilessly. As she staggered and fell to the ground, her cheeks reddened with embarrassment.
“Malcolm… You…” Tears welled up in Renee’s eyes and her throat was so tight she could barely speak.
“Next time, don’t take advantage of Enoch like that. Otherwise, you’ll ruin the good impression he has of you,” Malcolm said coldly, looking at her with contempt. “I…” Seeing that Malcolm did
n’t wasn’t even going to help him up, Renee felt helpless.
“I never show mercy to traitors. You knew that, right? But you still chose to betray me. The only reason I didn’t kill you was because of the relationship we had. After all, I have been satisfied with your performance over these few years. But don’t expect anything from me in the future. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless. I won’t let you go so easily next time.” Malcolm’s voice was low, and his every word pierced Renee’s heart like a knife. “Malcolm, I know I was wrong
. I should not have done that.
“What?” Malcolm sneered, icy disdain streaming from his eyes. “Forgive you? Ree, we’ve known each other for so long, but you’re still as strong-willed and childish as the first time I met you.”
“Malcolm, I really love you,” Renee said desperately. As soon as she heard Malcolm call her by her nickname, hope blossomed in her heart, and she stood up excitedly.
“Don’t talk about love in front of me after doing such a dirty thing,” Malcolm said coldly.
“I know I was wrong, Malcolm. Please forgive me…” Renee tried to hug Malcolm, but he pushed her away again.
“I won’t take back my words. You can’t change my mind. Don’t appear in front of me or my family again, especially my wife. Otherwise, you won’t be able to bear the consequences,” Malcolm growled, pinching the Renée’s chin.
After saying this, he let go of her forcefully and walked out of the room without looking back. Watching his silhouette walk away, Renée burst into tears and sobbed her lungs out.
She was the one who ruined her own happiness. She ruined her relationship with Malcolm. If she could go back in time, she wouldn’t make such a mistake again. However, there was nothing she could do now to change things. As her sobs died down, her eyes darkened and she stood frozen in place, lost in thought. His sadness gave way to vicious anger.
‘If I can’t have Malcolm… no one can.’ In the dark and private room, a cold and cruel glint flashed in his eyes.
After leaving the restaurant, Malcolm drove at full speed on the roads of S City. Memories of the humiliation he had endured in the past continued to pass through his mind like a movie, attacking every nerve in his body. Every scene was like a nightmare that haunted him. Looking straight ahead, he tightened his grip on the steering wheel and stepped on the accelerator. The car’s tires burned along the road, leaving a tail of fire. Then, suddenly, there was the harsh squeal of brakes. With one quick movement, Malcolm turned around and rushed towards the apartment.
Lucia absentmindedly entered the apartment. As soon as she entered, she was enveloped by the coldness of the house. But she had gotten used to this emptiness, which had become normal these days. The moonlight outside the French doors flooded the dark room, casting a long shadow of Lucia’s figure on the floor. Lucia looked out the window indifferently. Outside, there were a myriad of lights illuminating the sky and a dense network of roads crowded with people and vehicles. Under the glow of the street lights, people were rushing in different directions at night.
The night view made Lucia fall into deep thought. What she had learned recently was that she shouldn’t have fallen in love so easily. When she fell in love, her emotions and thoughts were easily affected, making her vulnerable. Happiness and sadness would compete mercilessly to occupy his heart. And the worst part was that the person she loved might abandon her completely one day. When that happened, all he would be left with was a big hole in his heart. And for a long time, it seemed like there was nothing she could do to feel better.
Lucia sighed silently. She had thought about the future before entering into this marriage, but she had not expected that life would become so stifling for her. She felt angry and depressed all the time, but she couldn’t express herself. Her phone suddenly rang, bringing her back to reality. When she looked at Lowell’s name on the caller ID, a slight smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
“What’s up? Do you want to have midnight snacks with me?” Lucie joked.
“What? Do you want to have midnight snacks?” Lowell responded, surprised by her question.
“Ha-ha, it’s too late now. Anyway, thank you very much this evening. But why are you calling now?” Lucia asked curiously.
“I was afraid you were thinking too much, so I just called to check if you were okay,” Lowell replied worriedly.
“Come on, I’m Lucie. How could I not be okay? Don’t worry.” Lucia’s tone was light, but there was a mocking smile on her face, because she knew her words were only meant to comfort Lowell.
“It’s okay. Lucia, if you have a problem, you can come to me at any time. You can count on me,” Lowell said after a long pause.
“All right.” Lucia had to choke out that single word because she was so overcome with gratitude.
Suddenly, she heard the click of the door opening. Turning her head, she saw Malcolm enter gloomily. She quickly hung up the phone before turning to Malcolm. She wanted to approach him, but for some reason she couldn’t explain, she suddenly stopped and just looked at him in silence.
The fact that Lucia had hung up in a hurry had not gone unnoticed by Malcolm, whose face had darkened. A murderous glint filled his eyes as he approached her step by step. Lucia stared at him without flinching, motionless. When Malcolm stopped in front of her, however, the coldness in his eyes made her unconsciously step back.
“Who was it?” Malcolm asked coldly.
“One of my friends.” Lucia kept her voice as light and firm as possible.
Malcolm searched her bright eyes for a clue as to what was going on in his head. After the operation, Lucia had lost weight and looked particularly frail in her baggy outerwear. Looking into Malcolm’s eyes, Lucia saw an inexplicable emotion. In a daze, she reached out to touch his face, but before she could, he grabbed her wrist.
“Are you out?” Malcolm’s voice was low and vibrating with anger.
“Yes. I was bored staying at home alone, so I went out for a walk,” Lucia replied, hiding part of the truth.
“You were only released from the hospital a few days ago. Are you that desperate for publicity?” Malcolm sneered, with a hint of mockery in his tone. “What are you talking about
? It’s not like I’m a bird in a cage. I can do whatever I want. Why can’t I go out for a walk? And what do you mean I desperately need publicity?” Lucia spat. She was so offended by his words that her eyebrows were furrowed in anger. “
Wildcat, don’t forget, you You are the hostess of the Evans family. To some extent, you are indeed a caged bird. Just because I spoil you doesn’t mean you can enjoy it.” The smile on the corner of Malcolm’s lips faded and his eyes darkened, making him look like a devil from hell. “Yes
. is the case, I might as well give up this identity,” Lucia said casually.
“You have no choice now. Even if you don’t want to accept this identity, you can only live like this for the rest of your life.” Malcolm clenched his jaw and looked at her coldly. “Ha-
ha, what a joke! Maybe you could lock me in this house, but do you think you can win me like that? No chance. You will never be able to control my thoughts and feelings.” As Lucia spoke, a bitter smile appeared on her face. Uncontrollable tears flooded her eyes, streaked her face and fell to the floor. “Wildcat, don’t try
to betray me. If you do, I’ll make your life hell, Malcolm growled.
Lucia’s lips quivered in defiance as she looked at him with hatred. Then, she turned abruptly and headed towards the bedroom without looking back. However, Malcolm grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms. Leaning down, he kissed her roughly on the lips, as if finally releasing all the emotions that had been building up inside him. Lucia fought against him with all her strength, but he was too strong for her to get rid of. As a last resort, she bit her lower l*p violently, drawing b***d.
Grimacing in pain, Malcolm finally let go of Lucia. The red liquid dotted along her lips and the dark room, lit only by the city lights outside, made her look enchanting. Suddenly a smile spread across his face, but it was cold and sarcastic.
“Have you ever loved me, Malcolm?” Lucia asked calmly without any emotion.
Malcolm narrowed his eyes at Lucia, wondering what she meant. After waiting for a few seconds for his response, Lucia turned around, entered the room and locked the door behind her. And with the door, she also locked her heart, silently resolving to never open her heart to others again.
After seeing Lucia disappear into the room, Malcolm picked up his phone and dialed a number. When the line was connected, he coldly ordered, “Keep an eye on Lucia.” »
“Okay, I’ll have someone follow her.” Kaleb’s respectful voice came from the other end of the line.
“No. Just use a tracking device. Don’t ask anyone to follow her,” Malcolm said.
“Yes sir.”
After hanging up the phone, Malcolm took one last look at the locked door. Then he turned around and left the apartment. There was absolute silence in the room, but their quarrel just now continued to ring in Lucia’s ears.
“Have you ever loved me, Malcolm?” No, you never did. Lucia sneered. But against all reason, she still didn’t want to give up. Maybe it was because of a lingering glimmer of hope in her heart, or because she couldn’t stop daydreaming. Or maybe she just needed to hold on to someone to help her overcome her despair and sadness.
In the darkness of the night, the apartment felt lonelier than ever.
