It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 72
Lucia looked at the fax she had received from Sophia. The pages fluttered between his fingers as his hands shook. She clenched her fists, forced herself to relax, then clenched them again. It was as if all the strength in her body had been drained by what she had just read. Lucia didn’t believe it. She was deeply shocked. She knew it was true. Sophia would never make up a story like this just to scare him. Something like that wasn’t a joke.
Wilma’s sudden visit was starting to make sense now. That must be what she meant. Lucia gave a sad little smile. She finally understood.
That was why Malcolm had gone to such lengths to woo her. So much effort to spoil her and make her feel wanted. It was why he had put so much patience into the relationship, why he had proposed to her at the end.
He wanted to control her. And once he won her heart, he would be able to control every aspect of her. Nothing could have prepared her for what she had just read.
“Malcolm, how heartless you are!” It
made perfect sense to him now why people in the business world said that the CEO of the Evans Group was a heartless man. No wonder he completely changed the way he treated her the moment Sloan gave his diagnosis. No wonder when Wilma had asked Lucia to resign, Malcolm had acquiesced. No wonder he kept telling her to have a child.
Malcolm didn’t care about having a child with her. All he cared about was the Evans family. He wanted to protect the family in every way possible.
The events of the last few months slowly came back to Lucia. Then they flocked in all at once. All the flirting, the sweetness, the arguing, the passion… Beneath each of them was a horrible, dirty truth. Malcolm had only wanted her because her birthdate met the requirements. Maybe it was a mistake to flirt with Malcolm at X Town that night. If only they had never known each other, she wouldn’t be stuck in the situation she is today.
So the saying was true; people were happier not knowing the truth.
With mechanical, practiced rage, Lucia shredded the papers into ribbons and threw them into the trash. Tears welled up in his eyes and rolled down his cheeks. Her heart sank in a way she had never felt before. Right now, Lucia was dangerously numb. She was indifferent. She didn’t feel anything.
In the group Evans
Enoch rushed into Malcolm’s office. Malcolm looked up and frowned at his brother. He took a breath to scold him, but Enoch beat him to it.
“Malcolm, Grandma went to see Lucia,” Enoch stammered.
Since Malcolm wouldn’t give Wilma the answers she wanted, it was only a matter of time before she went to talk to Lucia. But they never thought Wilma would act so quickly. They hadn’t even found ways to separate them yet, and Wilma had already gone to see Lucia.
“Do you think Grandma would tell him…?” Enoch stopped, unable to finish his sentence. He looked at Malcolm worriedly, hoping his brother would read his thoughts.
“No. Grandma doesn’t think Lucia is suitable to be my wife. She won’t tell her the truth. All she will do is ask Lucia to leave. Sloan must have spoken about the condition of Grandma Lucia’s health,” Malcolm said calmly.
“It’s entirely reasonable for Grandma to ask Lucia to leave. Malcolm, what are you going to do?” asked Enoch.
“Take care of company business. I have to go back. Don’t contact me unless it’s about something important,” Malcolm said coldly.
“Hey…” But Enoch quickly realized that he was speaking into the open air. Malcolm had already left the office.
Malcolm went straight to his car, got in, started the engine and pulled out onto the road. He slammed his foot on the gas and flew down the road, unable to quell the uneasy feeling rising in his chest. He parked his car in the underground parking lot and headed straight for the elevator. When the elevator reached the floor where his apartment was located, he was about to open the door but stopped. He remained like that for a good moment, motionless and barely blinking his eyes. Then finally, he opened the door.
To his surprise, he walked in to find Lucia sitting quietly on the couch. She looked like she was deep in thought, lost in the world of her own imagination. But upon closer inspection, he could see that she was like a lifeless doll.
” Wild cat? » Malcolm shouted as he entered.
Lucia slowly refocused her eyes and raised her head. His face was not full of its usual enthusiastic light. She didn’t look happy to see him. His expression was cold and his lips twisted in sarcasm. Malcolm looked back at him questioningly. He walked over to her and sat down. Gently, he took her in his arms and held her.
Lucie did not resist. She just let him hug her. A mocking smile appeared on his lips. How ironic that his arms gave him such a feeling of security!
“Did grandma visit you?” Don’t think too much about what she said. Don’t pay attention to it. I’ll take care of everything,” Malcolm said softly as he began to understand the situation. He wasn’t used to Lucia being so quiet. He was used to her bright eyes and cheerful manner. . Seeing her like this worried him.
“Why did you marry me?” Lucia asked dully.
“Because you’re my wildcat,” Malcolm replied simply.
The two were calm now, strangely. It was as if the previous argument and misfortune had never happened. It was as if they had gone back to the beginning, to the beginning where things were innocent and sweet. It was as if they were an ordinary couple. Sometimes they argued, sometimes they disagreed, and other times things were smooth. Lucia just smiled bitterly at his words.
She moved away from his arms and went to stand at the French windows. She loved starting in the bustling city below. She loved watching the people and cars rush by as night approached.
“No. That’s not the reason. The real reason is that I was born on the most positive day and you have to have a son before you turn 35. But then the universe decided to make me a Crazy little joke, right? Because my chances of getting pregnant are slim to none. I think it upset your grandmother, since she came all the way here to talk to me. You know , Malcolm, I’m starting to think I never knew you at all. I feel like I don’t know anything about you,” Lucia said calmly.
When she had first read the fax Sophia had sent her, she had thought she was going to scream and scream at Malcolm before leaving him. She never expected to be able to stand there and talk to him so calmly. Maybe it was because she had time to calm down. Or maybe it was because his heart was cold. Or maybe she just didn’t care.
“Who told you that?” Malcolm asked in a dangerous voice.
“Does it really matter who told me?” » Lucia asked lightly.
“No, it’s not. Now that you’ve said it, I have no reason to deny it. But you’re my wife, and I’m not going to let you go that easily,” Malcolm said coldly.
“I’m not the only woman in your life. What makes me so special?” Lucia smiled bitterly.
When it came to a relationship, both parties had to consent. No one could force the other. If something like this were to happen, a relationship like theirs would never have gotten this far. If she hadn’t wanted to start this affair with Malcolm, no one could have forced her to. But she had gotten involved with him. And now his control over the situation was beginning to slip.
“What do you mean?” Malcolm asked, narrowing his eyes at her. He knew there was a deeper meaning behind his words, he just couldn’t understand what it was.
“Nothing,” Lucia said with a mocking smile.
Malcolm walked towards her and tried to hug her, but she pushed his arms away and moved away. He grabbed her by the shoulders and turned her to look at him. Desperately, he searched her face for any indication of what she was feeling. But he found nothing. He was greeted by her cold, silent gaze. The two looked at each other.
“Answer me, Malcolm. Have you ever loved me?” Lucia said, continuing to look at him in silence.
Malcolm let go of her and let his hands fall to his sides. He turned so he could look out the window and was silent for a long moment. Finally, he said, “I care about you.
“Your care means nothing to me. What matters to you is to keep what you think is yours away from others. You don’t really care about anyone or anything. I deserve more than that,” Lucia said lightly with a slight smile.
“Wildcat…” Malcolm said softly, looking at her heartbroken expression.
“I’m nothing more than a pet to you. Something to cage and keep. I don’t see why we should be together if that’s how things are going to work. But I guess, in a way, you were right. People should learn to be less curious. Curiosity killed the cat. I have to admit that I was happier not knowing the truth. I was so confident that I would make you fall in love with me one day. Now I know I was wrong,” Lucia said with a blank expression.
“And there I thought you were a smart woman. I thought you knew how to control yourself. You had a sense of self-worth that most women lacked. But I was wrong. You’re like every other woman, chasing something as unrealistic as love. Does it matter if your date of birth meets the requirement? What if I have to father a son before I turn 35? I’m sure you’re not the only woman born on this day. Why did I marry you? I think I’ve been perfectly clear. But here you are, still questioning me,” Malcolm said coldly, his voice edged with anger.
“Yes, that’s true. I’m just an ordinary woman. I have emotions, dreams and desires. I will end up wanting more from life. I will become dissatisfied and seek new experiences. That being said, I now ask you to let me go peacefully. Grant me at least my last shred of dignity,” Lucia said after taking a deep breath.
“Let you go? Wild cat, don’t even think about it. You’re going to be my wife for the rest of your life,” Malcolm said without hesitation.
Lucia laughed bitterly. “I’m not going to be your wife for the rest of my days. I refuse to be with a man who only uses me whenever he wants. I refuse.” His words were cold and firm, each one ground through gritted teeth.
Malcolm stood in front of Lucia again and looked at her. Then he suddenly lifted her up. Lucia began to struggle, but she was no match for him. Malcolm carried her to the bedroom and threw her roughly onto the bed. Lucia moved away from him, frightened by his violently cold aura. He undressed in front of her. Taking off his pants first, then his shirt. Once naked, he grabbed Lucia by the ankle and brought her back to him. He tore his clothes off his body like some sort of savage. Then he threw them to the ground and pinned her under him.
“What are you doing? Get off me, Malcolm!” Lucia screamed as she pounded her fists against her chest.
“Wildcat, remember this. If you ever betray me, I will destroy you. Stop with this ridiculous rebellious attitude and be my woman. No other woman can take your place, and no one can ever take it away from you. Not even my grandmother,” Malcolm said stiffly, as if making a promise.
Lucia turned her head away and ignored him. Malcolm didn’t seem to mind. Without any warning or foreplay, Malcolm pushed his hard e******n into her body. He began to take her violently, like an animal driven mad by the smell of b***d.
There was no love this time. Neither passion nor emotion. It was just a raw, primal possession, and their bodies reacted in their usual, natural way. The gloom of the cold autumn day made the act all the more brutal.
