Kiss of A Titan -
Chapter 37
Apart from the entire team, Coach Robbins was the only one that was extremely freaked out the most out of the rest of us and we could tell right away that he was highly devastated and infuriated when he flung the door of our gym in such a harsh manner which hit the side with loud bang that everyone thought the metal door would actually broke into two. Few minutes before the preseason games ended, He had publicly refrained every athlete in the Titan team from shaking hands with the visitors as a courtesy of saying goodbye and had ordered everyone to see him at the gym.
Consequently, the few of us who were still dressed in the swimsuit didn't have the time or the chance to get changed, especially Richard and I who were under the hateful watch of Clyde and the other athletes including the gymnasts as we trudged in silence behind Coach Robbins.
I wasn't sure if the others received the shock of what happened right in front of their own faces with mixed feelings rather than disgraceful hatred like Coach Robbins nor was I sure if my intuition could enlightened me on how I could figure out what the others were contemplating inside their heads on their own opinion about Richard whom they now see differently than before but from their eyes filled with perjury, I was positive that they were completely unhappy with the unbelievable incident. Their cheerful stare at the beginning of the game had dried off and had gone extremely cold as ice after Richard's mind-blowing kiss in the center of a live streaming pre-season game hosted by Houston High. It was a huge mess as well as a terrible slap in the face to Coach Robbins whose fingers are pointing to because of things and the whole world now knew about it.
Even Paige and the other female gymnasts, particularly Katherine walking low-spirited behind me, seemed more contemptuous in their looks at Richard than the boys like Linder whose footsteps behind us were by far slower and weaker than the rest of us.
He was behind Richard and our slow march to the gym felt like eternity to him. It was a great surprise to me to see Tyler's face appear discolored and horribly blunt than his usual horrid look during practice though he was good looking to the girls who would have been fascinated about his masculinity.
I didn't quite recognize much of how he was going to react when we got to the gym but I know deep down inside that I have let the whole team down including Coach Robbins who trusted me with a chance to prove I was superior to a stagnant pool of water.
For a brief moment, I loathed Richard and how he handled the situation even though it was in my best interest that he came rushing to stop me from being traumatized by the two incidents I was struggling to battle with. After this, I was sure my aunt would have a lot to say about what she witnessed at the gymnasium in the midst of an astonishing crowd who was by far stunned to see such a thing happen in the games.
Her two children won't seem to care about how agonizing the situation was for me being the center focus of the scandal and they won't be too bothered to find out that there was every possibility that my short career as an athlete was going to end quickly even before the main event starts in a couple weeks away from the first half of the already concluded games.
What had happened had utterly disfigured the team's efforts to demonstrate its abilities and I was sure Richard knew this as well. I lowered my head to avoid the hard stares of Windy and the other girls as we got a bit closer to the gym owing to the fact Coach Robbins had furiously led us on a detour through the deserted corridors of the school when the closing ceremony was barely over but remarkably, Richard held his face high without an ounce of guilt in that handsome visage of his and wasn't fazed by the piercing looks of his teammates and I wondered deep inside of me what was the reason he was unfazed by his own embarrassing actions where in fact he was guilty as a criminal convicted to rot in jail by the verdict imposed on him by the judge. For Richard, his penance was awaiting him in the gym and likewise, I wasn't going to escape from it.
The door banged hard as it slapped against the wall behind it as Coach Robbins angrily ventured inside, fuming in anger profoundly.
We followed behind him as though we were sheep being led to the slaughter house and I quietly found a suitable spot to squeeze myself in between Paige and Windy to avoid the first share of Coach Robbins' anger which was very much written in his face.
His face read total displeasure at the sight of us standing before him. His entire visage was cloaked with stormy signs of tempestuous fury directed at none of us in particular but Richard who was bold enough to return his glare. Ironically, Coach Robbins was silent trying to suppress his temper unlike what we had expected that he would unleash his fury on us starting with Richard, the moment we got to the gym but he had had a rethink of his strategy which would backfire if not handled properly. The dreadful was yet occurring as the silence prevailed between him and us, and we all knew this.
His hands were already on his waist waiting for the perfect chance to unleash what he had been nursing holding back inside of him before we came to the gym.
So did the other athlete as we stood speechless before him but I sensed he was scaring amongst us who would be the first to suffer from his wrath and Richard was the first on his hit list with me next in line.
A second thought came to all of us that Coach Robbins wasn't going to be too severe reprimanding each of us for their own fault as he kept wearing out our patience with his silence. It was evident he was ruminating about the best approach to settle scores with his team after an embarrassing display that happened right in front of the whole school and to worsen it all, the school principal witnessed it all in person and he definitely was in a terribly difficult situation that we were, the true cause of his plight.
Expulsion was staring at our faces while Coach Robbins' jeopardized position as the head coach was in serious trouble.
