Luca’s POV

2 weeks later…

I drop on my bed in my room. Sore and a bit sweaty. I could not believe that this was normal training for wolves preparing to shift. My body felt like lead. I couldn’t move much. I heard a knock on my door. “Yes?” I g*****d out. “Luca, can I come in? I have your energy elixir.” A sweet voice came from the other side of the door. Despite my body’s refusal to move I jumped up as fast as I could. “Sure, come on in.” I said. The door opened and Melody walked in with a vial in her hand. She smiled and I returned it with a smile of my own. Spending these two week here was worth it to see her everyday.

“You ready? Tonight is the big night?” She asked as she handed the vial to me. I downed it. Over the last two weeks I’ve gotten used to the tangy bitterness of these elixirs, but they really work wonders. I felt my energy return like always but my muscles were still sore. “Yeah, just not looking forward to the pain and soreness.” I replied.

I could see the gears in her head turning. She was always so cute when she was thinking. “After you shower I can massage your stiff muscles. It is something grandma did for mama when she was sore. It might make it easier for your shift tonight.” After the words were out of her mouth, it seemed to register to her mind what she just said and her cheeks turned a tint of pink. I raised an eyebrow and smirked at her. Her cheeks darkened a bit more.

“That sounds nice.” I said. “W-w-well ok then. Go shower and I will be back. Make sure you put on shorts.” She stammered out as she scurried out of my room. Once the door slammed shut I boomed with laughter. I don’t know if I am starting to feel the mate bond with my wolf sealed away, but over the last two weeks… the closer I feel something towards Melody. I watched her training some young pups that were going to be shifting for the first time during the full moon tonight. Her leadership and compassion for others has been mesmerizing to watch.

Though I know so little about her. I haven’t even seen her or her brother’s wolves yet. I take a semi quick shower. Soaking for a few extra minutes under the hot water and stretching some of my muscles. I dry off and throw on some basketball shorts. Then as if she knew exactly when to come back, there was the same gentle knock on the door. I went to open it and saw her standing there with a small bottle in her hand. “What is that?” I asked. “It is some lavender oil. It will help you take a nap before the shift and run tonight.” I nodded as I let her in.

“Lay down and I will start with your shoulders.” I did as she said. I felt something warm drip onto my back. Then I felt her hands start to rub my shoulders. It felt like heaven. She was good, she knew which places needed more attention and the right amount of pressure to apply. “So how does this pack run work every full moon?” I asked. “Oh it was something mama started after a rogue attack and a few kids were orphaned. They had no one to help them through their first shift and it broke mama’s heart. Mama believes that when wolves shift together their bond is stronger together, especially since she had to shift all alone when she was younger.” Melody said as she worked on my shoulder blades.

“But how is it done? Not everyone comes of age on a full moon.” “You’re right, but with Aunt Shianna and Aunt Sabrina they don’t have to be. They cast a spell that prevents the first shift until the alpha commands it.” She said. “Oh ok. Are they still able to talk to their wolf?” She laughed. “Of course they are. Aunt Shianna and Aunt Sabrina wouldn’t completely seal their wolves away. The spell only postpones the first shift.”

“So does it strengthen the bond between the pack members?” I feel her hand move down to my back. “Yes, because those that have already shifted will be in their wolf forms. Along with all the ranked members. Having the aura from the wolves already here not only strengthens the bond with the new wolves, but for some makes the shift itself easier.” “What do you mean easier?” I ask. I felt her hands leave my back. “All done, you can sit up now.” She said.

I sit up and roll my shoulders and neck. I felt better than ever. Melody was using a towel to wipe the oil off her hands as so continued. “Easier by spreading the pain of the shift throughout the pack. It can’t take the pain away 100%, but it makes it more bearable.” I thought for a moment. Wanting to word my question better. “Do you think it will help me?” Sabrina and Shianna have warned me countless times to make sure I take care of my body well, because I am shifting 5 years later than normal werewolves. They wanted me to be ready for the intense pain.

“I am not sure. Maybe if your mate was someone in our pack, then I can see it helping. But like I said before, it won’t take 100% of the pain away.” When she said something about my mate. Worrying about the pain was pushed to the back of my mind. I prayed to the Moon Goddess that Melody was my mate. “Well you should rest. Tonight is going to be a big one for you.” She said, as she picked up the dirty towel and the bottle of oil. She turned to leave the room and as she reached the door she turned her head back to me. “Oh and Anthony will have your medicine ready before we shift.” Then she was out the door. Still a bit hard for me to accept him completely, but I have to admit that Anthony is not a bad guy… for a vampire. I fell back on my bed and fell into a deep sleep.
