Episode 55

Ethan’s POV

How could someone look and even smell exactly like Riley and Kai? I know warlocks and witches can cast glamor spells or charms that can change their appearance, but these two still smelled like Riley and Kai. How could they fake their scent like that? “Do we confront them?” Anthony asked. “Hell yes we do. We need to find the real Kai and Riley quickly.” I said. Especially Kai. It was almost noon. We walked over to the imposter Kai and Riley. They were still stuffing their faces with food. The Kai imposter noticed us first. “Hello. Did you guys need anything from us?” He asked, whipping some frosting from the corner of his mouth.

“Yes we want to know, who the hell you two really are and where are the real Kai and Riley?” Melody demands while glaring at them. “W-w-what do you mean?” The fake Riley stuttered out. I could see that they were starting to get nervous. “We know you two are fake, now cut the act and maybe we will let you live.” Jeremiah said coldly. Both imposters stared at the ground for a few minutes in silence. Then they started laughing. “You let us live?” Fake Riley laughed out. Everyone’s attention was now on our little group. The fake Riley pushed out her palms and a strong wind sent us flying backwards a few feet. “You would be lucky if we let you live.” Fake Kai yelled as he snapped his fingers.

A black mist filled the entire garden within seconds. All of a sudden I lost strength in my whole body and dropped down to my knees. Everyone in the garden, besides the two imposters, dropped to their knees as well. I felt like I couldn’t breathe right, like the air was being succked from my lungs and I was left in the thin air at the top of a high mountain. “Hard to breathe? This is a demonic miasma. It is quite poisonous to all living things except for those with demon b***d.” The fake Kai cackled. “Oh but don’t worry, your new crowned majesty. Our master informed us to take you back alive… for now.” The fake Riley said, in a sadistic cold tone.

‘What the hell? Their master? Why are they always after Melody?’ I thought to myself. “Though the rest of you, we were given permission to kill.” Fake Kai said. He started stroking his chin like he was thinking hard about something. “How about we start with the two older brothers of your, your highness?” Fake Riley asked. “Yes, that sounds perfect. They have been the most annoying. Always coming over to us and asking us if we are ok.” Fake Kai answered the other imposter. “Where are the real Kai and Riley?!” Terrance yelled in a pained voice. “Oh those two children? Let us just say that they are no longer with us.” The fake Riley said before she started laughing again. “You could hardly call them guardians for how easy it was to kill them.” Fake Kai commented.

I felt like I had been suckered punched in the gut. ‘No. No. No. NO!’ I said over and over in my head. They can’t be gone. “You know the plan was to just take the girl in the dead of night. You guys should have just let us do our job.” Fake Kai said as I saw him grab a dagger from behind him and walked towards me. All I could do was glare. This miasma made it almost impossible to move, let alone fight. The fake Riley also had a dagger in her hand and was standing over Terrance. He growled at the imposter. I closed my eyes.

Third Person POV

The imposters that were posing as Riley and Kai raised the daggers in their hands, ready to kill Ethan and Terrance. Though just as they were swinging the blades down, two figures jumped in front of Terrance and Ethan. Hitting the imposters with such force that they went through the stone wall on the edge of the garden. “Spóros se chóma, louloúdi se spóro. Those whose time it is to return, go back to the place where they must return.) A soft voice spoke. A soft wind filled the garden and cleared the deadly miasma. Flowers started to bloom all around and some strength started to return to those it had been taken from.

“WHAT THE HELL?!” the imposters yelled as they stood back up. Ethan opened his eyes and they widened in shock. Standing between their new family and the imposters, was the real Kai and Riley in the same outfits the imposters were wearing, but with their swords strapped to their backs. “No way, this is impossible. You two brats should be dead!” The fake Kai screamed. The real Riley laughed. “Oh that is a funny joke. Don’t you think brother?” She asked. “Truly. As if weaklings such as these two could kill us.” The real Kai said with a small smile on his lips. The imposters growled. “I injected you with my full miasma venom. It should have put you to sleep forever!” The fake Kai yelled. “Yeah, the next time you want someone dead. Make sure the job is done right before you just leave the body. You two are pathetic for doppelganger demons.” The real Riley said and flicked her wrist towards the pair of doppelgangers. “Now show us your true faces. apokalýpste tin alítheia!” (reveal the truth!) The wind circled around the two doppelgangers and revealed their true forms.

They were tall, completely white skin, they only had a mouth, and no clothes on. They looked like sickly versions of that selder man from creepy pastas. They had tattoo markings on their necks. The one that was pretending to be Riley had a black tornado on her neck, while the one that pretended to be Kai had a vial with a clouded skull over top of it. “There, now are you going to tell us your real names?” Riley asked. Her face made her look like she was being nice and playful, but her tone of voice was anything but. “I mean we could just call you dumb a*s and s**t head.” She added in a mocking tone. The imposters growled. The one that impersonated Kai spoke up first. “I am Galand and this is my partner Melascula.” He said pointing between the two of them.

“Now how about we finish you off for good this time.” Melascula sneered. Riley and Kai started laughing, as if the demons just told them a funny joke. “You said that before, but if you think you can kill us then you have another thing coming.” Kai said in full confidence. “Oh shut your mouth you insufferable brat! Koukoúli tou skótous!” (Cocoon of darkness!) Melascula said while waving her hand towards Kai. Melody and the other watched in horror as Kai was swallowed up by a thick black shadow that turned into a cocoon. “KAI!” Melody, Ethan, and Terrance yelled in unison. Riley just smiled at the demons. “You know I should tell you how much you just f****d up.” She said.

Melascula huffed. “You two sure are cocky brats, just because you were assigned to be that girl’s guardians. Honestly, what good could two little brats do against strong warriors like us?” She laughed. “Well for one… we actually use our heads for more than banging rocks like you two.” Riley spoke, unaffected that her brother was now in a cocoon.

(This is Riley still talking, but listing all the things that the doppelgangers screwed up on.)

You need to hide your full presence while spying on people. Kai and I knew you were watching us the moment we got to Raven Moon.

You should learn more about a person before you take their place. Not only did you keep mixing up Ethan and Terrance all morning, you didn’t take our swords with you, you left our mistresses’ side, and you were pigging out on food that neither of us ate.

And finally…

(Galand cut her off by attacking her.)

“Shut up you brat. That still doesn’t explain how you are alive. My venom could kill a full beast-human with just one bite. I injected two full bites worth of venom into both you and your brother.” Riley blocked every single attack Galand was throwing at her. “It didn’t kill us because poisons from the demon realm have no effect on my brother and I. We have been in the shadows watching you two the whole time.” Riley answered, as she kicked Galand back over to Melascula’s side. “Then why not come out sooner and confront us?” Melascula sneered. “If we did that then we would not have learned anything. As demons, you could have been after our mistress for your own power gain, but you revealed to them yourself that it is your master that wants her. So who is this master of yours?” Riley asked calmly.

“Like you need to know. You and the rest of the people here will die within the hour.” Galand growled. Riley smirked at him. “Oh, but that is where your final mistake was made.” Riley said with a smile. Everyone was confused on what Riley was talking about. Riley held up her finger and pointed to the sun. “It is now, high noon.” She stated.

Suddenly golden flames burst through the dark cocoon that swallowed up Kai before. Kai stood there in his hybrid form with his arms crossed over his chest as if he was unamused by the imposter’s attacks. The golden flames dancing around his red, scaly tail and wings. “No this is impossible. You are too young for this cursed light.” Melascula shrieked as she covered her eyes. “How could a brat like you be given a grace from the gods?!” Galand yelled. “Well you know our names, but do you know our family name?” Riley asked with a smirk.

The demons looked at her like she was crazy. “Why would your family name make any difference to us?” Melascula asked. “Because we were blessed by the gods to our mother.” Kai spoke, his voice a bit deeper than normal. “Our mother is Jasmine Dragneel.” Riley told them. The two doppelgangers looked stunned as soon as they heard that name. “J-j-j-jasmine D-d-d-dragneel?!” Galand stuttered out. That was when the two doppelgangers truly understood who they were dealing with.

Kai’s POV

I know Melody and the others are gonna yell and scold me later, but I have to finish this quickly. This is only the second time I have used my divine grace, sunshine. I dashed forward and was in front of the one called Melascula within a blink of an eye. I grabbed her by her shoulders and flapped my wings, taking us into the air, and away from everyone else. I had to put a safe distance between me and Melody before my magic became too much and started to roast everyone around me.

“This is impossible. How could your young body handle a divine grace?! It is unheard of. Your body should have shut down from the exertion of this power. Even if you are of the Dragneel bloodline, your body is too young and inexperienced for this power.” She yelled. I could feel how she was shaking in my grip. She was completely screwed. If she wiggled out of my grasp,or I decided to drop her, then she would fall thousands of feet in the air to splat on the ground below. I kept my face completely stone serious, void of any emotion. I would never let my enemy see how much strain my divine gift puts on my body.

“You seem to forget that my mother is the only living thing that has survived a whole year in purgatory. Therefore, as her children, my sister and I can survive this easily… you on the other hand. I wouldn’t count on it.” I said with a grin and then I tossed her with all my strength above me. Raising up a hand I summoned my power. Forming a sun in my palm that grows and grows. “Now burn in hell you worthless creature.” I said as I thrust my sun at Melascula “CUREL SUN!!” My sun flew through and rammed right into Melascula. She shrieked as my flames consumed her and turned her to ash. That is one taken care of, now to return to Lady Melody’s side.

Riley’s POV

Kai took Melascula up into the sky. She was going to get a taste first hand of my brother’s divine gift. “So are you going to answer my question and tell me who this master is of yours?” I asked again. Taking my sword from my back and twirling it around in my hand. As a guardian, I need to observe and find out who truly is after my mistress. That was the only reason Kai and I allowed these two idiots anywhere near Melody. “Do you think I am scared just because you claim to be that woman’s daughter?” Galand sneered. I felt my eyebrow twitch.

“I heard that she was so cold hearted that she killed her own mate. If she really is your mommy, then she is just a two bit whore.” He spat. I knew he was trying to anger me on purpose. When one’s feelings become unbalanced, then they are unbalanced. Any breathing technique, especially water and fire, requires a firm steady breathing and concentration. I gripped my sword. There are two things in this life I can not stand… People that doubt my ability to perform my duty as Lady Melody’s guardian, and those that would trash my mother’s name. My mother had sacrificed so much to raise Kai and I on her own. She never stopped showing us how much she loved us and cared for us.

Within a second I had thrusted my sword through this bastard and pinned him to the wall with it. B***d came out of his mouth as he screamed and howled in pain. I gripped his right arm and twisted his wrist, as if I was ringing out all the water from a wet rag. Hearing him cry out in pain more as his bones snapped and twisted around with my motions. I smirked. “Feel free to tell me at any time, and I will make the pain stop.” I said as I just kept moving up his arm, slowly twisting and breaking all the bones in his arm as painfully as I could. I need to know who is after Melody and I wanted answers now. Though I was enjoying making him cry for what he called my mother.

“There is no point. Even with your divine gifts, you and that boy are no match for my master. That girl will be his and he will get what he wants.” He spoke in between screams of pain and gasps of air. “That is not a name.” I said coldly as I then took out a kunai and thinly sliced off some skin from his leg. His black b***d was running down his leg and pooling on the ground. “Riley!” I hear someone call me. I turned my head to see. Terrance was trying to stand. “You don’t need to do this. We can question him for you.” His voice was mixed with desperation and fear. ‘Is it me he is fearing?’ I thought, but it quickly came to an end when I felt a stinging pain in my side.

“Riley!” Ethan and Terrance yelled out. I looked back at the demon, shock on my face as I noticed that his claws from his left hand were sunk deep into my side. I coughed and tasted the tangy metallic b***d fill my mouth and run down my l*p. “See? Even with divine powers, you are still weak with those around you. Lord Estarossa will have the girl while you bleed out here and die like the dog you are.” He snickered. I looked at him and grinned. “So Estarossa is his name. Thank you for being so kind enough to tell me.” I said with a smile. I yanked my sword out of the wall and controlled my breathing. “Water breathing, first form… Water Surface s***h!” I run my blade across his throat and lop off his head.

“What? B-b-but… how…” he asked as his body started to turn to ash. I knelt down. “It would take a lot more than you clawing at me to kill me. I am a guardian for a reason.” I spat then I walked away. I noticed Kai was coming down. His eyes were drained and tired. I placed my hands together. “Theïkoí ánemoi therapeías.” (Divine winds of healing.) I say as I then pull my hands apart and heal everyone in the garden. After they were able to stand again… Melody, Ethan, Terrance, Drake, Jeremiah, and Luca all rushed to where Kai and I were. “I know you have questions, but let us go somewhere more private.” I say before they could bum barred us with questions. Luca nods. “Ok follow me.” Kai and I were right next to Melody as we followed Luca. He leans us to a library. He closed and locked the doors. I then casted a wind barrier around the room. “Alright Kai, the barrier is in place. No one can see into this room or hear anything we talk about.” I told him. Kai then released his breath and then the kickback of his powers hit him full force. Causing him to sink to his knees and breath rapidly.

I crouch next to him and place my forehead against his. “Breathe Kai, focus on my voice and slow your breathing to match mine.” I spoke calmly to him as his harsh breaths became slower bit by bit. I sat down and laid Kai’s head in my lap. “Rest brother. I will explain.” I spoke calmly. Kai then slipped into a deep sleep. I looked up from Kai to everyone around us. “Ok Missy, you have a lot of explaining to do.” Ethan said with his arms crossed his chest. I nodded.
