Chapter 39
His whole body shrank and he recoiled, alarming his partner who licked his ear nervously. He knew he had to get her out of there, not even the safe room they had built for emergencies had worked, despite being overwhelmed with concern for his partners he couldn’t let Alisha fall into the wrong hands, not because of the fact that she was his wife, but because of all the secrets she harboured. He motioned for her to follow him, they needed to get out of the mansion and away as soon as possible, he was sure that was the order Serguei would give him.
Sticking his head out of the door he watched and heard sounds approaching from the first floor, they had a few seconds. Cristián ran out with Alisha at his side and they ran into the continuous room that had a large window, they would escape through it, although the fall would be dangerous, there were not a few meters that separated them from the garden.
The wolf regained his human form to open the window and in the process the wounds on his body roared, causing him to grimace but he tried to hide it, this was no time for weakness. Once open, he regained his form and waited for his partner to step to the edge.
The sounds were getting closer and closer, there seemed to be more than three of them and they were breaking the slabs of the old floor as they passed.
Alisha crossed her paws over the window until she reached the small wall overhanging the window and looked down. She swallowed dryly and, looking at her partner, jumped up. She didn’t know how many muscles creaked but her front paws were unsteady as she stood up after jumping. She waited for Cristian to join her. That didn’t happen. Droplets of a dark, viscous liquid fell from the room and drifted down her muzzle. The smell of her mate’s b***d exalted her. Her back bristled and she was going to run back inside, she couldn’t leave them like that. They had caught him, he hadn’t given her time, and all because he put her first.
In his thoughts he heard a faint howl, almost without strength, telling him to run, not to let himself be caught. His partner was asking him to leave him there. He couldn’t be more cruel. He knew the reasons, but still, the wild part of him refused to abandon his other half.
He shook his head, he couldn’t just walk away and let all those wolves that had become his family die just like that. He took a few steps to circle the mansion and take action when he heard his mate’s voice again but this time in his head.
-Go, get out of here, don’t worry about us, you can’t let yourself get caught.
-Christian
-GET OUT- she heard him shout to lose total connection with him.
He g*****d low and against his will he turned around and started to run leaving the lights of the mansion behind and entering the dark and leafy forest without a specific destination. She ran until her lungs ached and her heart ached even more, she couldn’t believe what she was doing, guilt gnawed at her. The mere thought of any of them dying because of her would destroy her. She had to find help, but where, she didn’t know anyone else who was a wolf besides her companions.
The rustling of branches behind her reached her ears. Slowing her pace slightly she looked back and the image terrified her. Several metres behind her, at least four experiments were following her and catching up with her pace with ease.
Alisha stifled a scream and ran back as fast as she could. Her muscles burned but she couldn’t stop, though no matter how fast she went, the distance between her and her attackers grew smaller and smaller. She braced herself for the melee, she couldn’t let herself be caught.
It wasn’t long before one of the experiments attacked, leaping and landing on her, burying its fangs in the wolf and tearing the skin as if it were mere thin cloth. Alisha didn’t have time to react, those beasts were moving so fast her reflexes couldn’t keep up, still she turned her head whimpering from the pain that lashed her and grabbed one of the bony paws and threw the experiment aside.
The b***d that gushed from its back stained both its fur and the blanket of leaves beneath it. She had to stop because of her wound and was quickly surrounded by the 4 followers. Alisha bared her fangs threateningly. Despite being larger than the average wolf because of her alpha genetics, they were several inches bigger than her. She was at a total disadvantage and she knew it, she was weak and even more so when she wasn’t used to her wolf body and if she added the amount of b***d she was losing due to the wound, the percentage was reduced even more.
-A familiar voice rang in her head and Alisha didn’t hesitate.
-Go ahead.”
She let her consciousness be consumed by the one she thought would not exchange again, she had been wrong, the essence of the she-wolf was still latent in her b***d and now the only one she could trust.
By the time her consciousness was returned she was surrounded by the mutilated bodies of her attackers and her paws and muzzle were bathed in other people’s b***d and the rest of her body in her own b***d.
She staggered, feeling unsteady and dizzy. Her breathing was labored and she gasped for breath to even out the high temperature inside her. She tried to take a step but could not. It seemed that finishing off her attackers had drained all her energy, but she had to get out of there.
With all her willpower she brought one paw forward, then the other and moved as slowly as she could. She cursed, she had to move fast, but everything was becoming blurred because of the lack of b***d. Suddenly something fell on her, pushing her to the floor, and a sharp pain shot into her throat. She looked up out of the corner of her eye. Another experiment was upon her and its claw was buried in the thin skin of her neck choking her.
A man’s footsteps came closer and closer until he was in front of her. With the toe of his shoe he turned the wolf to lift it up so she could see it. Alisha gasped. In front of her stood the man she had once called father.
-I’ve been looking for you for over ten years, my little one, did you think you could just run away,” the man’s face showed no expression, only his features were the same as when she lived with him, as when she saw him through the glass in her glass prison, as when she saw him in the vision of 200 years ago, they looked sharper.
She saw him pull a gun from his pocket and with a faint smile she pointed it at his head and simply fired.
