Love and Chaos Series
The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 45

Xavier, who saw Mia's desire for reading, had converted his mother's spell room into a study for her. In the last few months, Mia had successfully read all the books on the shelf in her room. When she relayed it to Xavier, he seemed obliged to find a way out for her sake. He borrowed her a few of his books from his study and in the little free time she had to herself, Mia finished them and returned them two days later, and that blew him away. He knew she loved books, but he didn't know she loved them that much. This prompted the creation of the study, and after three days, it was almost completed.

Mia stood at the window of her study, which had a thick brown curtain to control the flow of light in the room. She watched as the workers placed the last book on the shelf and she looked impressed with the progress and speed of its transformation.

The study desk was being adjusted when the door flew open, startling the eight people in the room. All eyes turn to the door and they saw Xavier positioned there. He had a hard look as he glanced around before his eyes landed on her. Mia wondered why that was because this was not the emotional state she left him in earlier. This made her sceptical, and she wondered what might have triggered his rage, but she didn't move close to him.

"Leave us," he commanded. The workers dropped the table and every other thing in their hands and exited the study within seconds.

Immediately, she knew she had a hand in the anger he felt. She tried to recollect what she might have done to trigger the rage, but she came up short.

As the door shut, Xavier stepped further into the study. The space in the room after the shelf, tables and chairs were fitted to him was small and so was the distance they now had between them.

His eyes did not leave her, and they burnt.

"Why?"

"Why what?"

"I specifically told you not to."

"Not to what?"

"Send a letter to my brother and you went behind my back and did it, anyway."

Then she understood what he spoke about. She had sent the letter to him a few weeks ago, paying no mind to his warning not to. She had, however, sent the letter secret, and how he found out now baffled her. They had gotten along so well these last few days and this would ruin that.

Her eyes dropped in remorse. "I was worried about him. He's your brother, and I know you care about him, so help me understand why you aren't worried?"

"That's none of your business! I specifically told you not to send the letter, and you went behind my back and you did that." he snapped at her.

"It is my business!" she argued, her voice firm and unapologetic. "He's family."

"He's not your family!" he sneers, pulling out the letter, which didn't look like the one she sent out of his pocket. He tossed it onto the floor and stepped towards her.

She stepped back, seeds of fear planting themselves in her stomach. "When I said pick anyone in the kingdom to drag with your affair, I didn't include my brother," he said with a spiteful tone.

She couldn't believe he was accusing her of an affair with his brother. He was the only one she felt an attraction for and for him to think so low of her hurt. But if that was what he wanted, she could play that way, too.

"Then you should have been more specific!" she shot back, folding her arms over her chest. "Your brother is young and kind. He's also gentle and a good-looking man."

He scoffed in disbelief at her comeback, and his teeth gritted. It showed he didn't expect her to say that. He probably didn't expect her to fight back, just stay down and take the heat.

"And you're no different from every other lying, manipulative and untrustworthy bastards I have around me in this kingdom." he took another bold step towards her his anger not reducing, "you're good with the show, please your audience, make them believe you're the better person, but on the inside, you're just a snake."

She took offence at the crude words he rained down on her and before she knew it; she cussed at him. "F**k you!"

Silence dominated the study in the next seconds and the words she just spat out came back into her ears.

His eyes glowed red, and he darted over to her from where he stood. Her breath cut in her throat at the nearness of him and at the thought of what he was going to do to her. She feared she had stepped on too many wires with him first, breaking a promise she made to him and the cussing at him.

She hadn't pushed him this far in a long time and he hadn't been this furious with her since he brought her back. He had no restrained ring on his finger and so there was no way of controlling his rage. It meant he could reach out and snap her neck in a second if the thought crossed his mind. This might as well be her last moment in this world.

His hand grabbed her by the face, and her heart almost stopped beating. "You know you've got a very foul mouth, my queen, and perhaps you need to learn why that's a terrible thing." he sneered at her.

She didn't put up a fight; she was too afraid to.

Her eyes tightly shut, fearing for the very worse. His worse never came. Instead, she felt his lips on hers and this takes her by surprise. The fear that broke out because of everything that had just taken place died away.

She kissed back, and he pulled her closer against himself, so she could feel the heat of his body on hers. She heard his beating heart in its cage and felt his throbbing member hidden away in his trousers.

He pulled away from the kiss, and her eyes fluttered to meet his stormy ones, which he fought to take control of. Her heart was still hammering away in her chest, but this time it wasn't from fear, but from her need for him.

She closed the space between them and tiptoes to kiss his lips. She took his hands and placed them around her waist as a guide. This was what she wanted, he was what she wanted.

He took the cue and pushed her against the wall so that her back flattened against it. He pull at the small hand of her dress until it fell off her shoulder, and he sang his fingertips on her skin there. Then they dropped to the swell of her breast and he cupped and fondled them tenderly. Although hidden away, her breast felt perfect in his hands. He wondered how much better the skin of it would feel.

She moaned in response to his touch, squirming and sensitive. She needed him more than she thought was possible, and her hips bucked up against him as proof.

Her breathing was ragged and sharp as he claimed her, but as she reached for his trousers, he pulled away.

Her eyes fluttered immediately to meet his. She gasped and fought to steady her rapidly beating heart while keeping her eyes on him.

He licked over his swollen bottom lips and stepped back. His desire and want for her still lingered in his eyes, but unlike earlier, guilt mixed with it. In a second, he disappeared from the study without uttering a word to her.

She stood with her back still pressed to the wall. She tried to control her breathing and her raging heart. Though she tamed her breathing, she couldn't control the pain that lingered in her heart.

Her eyes caught the letter Xavier had tossed onto the study floor earlier, and she picked it up. He had already broken its seal. Still, she opened it and read.

Good day, Mia. I hope this letter finds you well. I received your last letter and I am very. It's so nice hearing from you and I hope you're well. I just finished with my royal duties and will head back to the capital soon. I hope Xavier has been on his best behaviour. Please keep an eye out for him and stay safe.

Edward.
