Love beyond the mask ( Whitney ) -
Chapter 945
"Sure, I'll text you Chris's number," Ashton promised, his voice full of resolve. "Once I've got the paternity test, I'll head straight to you." "Right, let's do that. I'll go and buy some time with the old man."
After agreeing on their plan, Whitney dashed outside the church, only to see the old man angrily driving off in a sleek black Bentley. Instead of heading towards the city center, the car veered off towards Sea Bay in Banyan City.
Could Parker have taken Tiana there? Whitney pondered briefly before swiftly following.
However, halfway to Sea Bay, Whitney's phone rang. It was Ashton, "Things aren't looking good. Something happened to Chris. I called him, and he just stopped responding mid-conversation!
I can't delay releasing Cherry now. I'm heading to Chris's last known location with her in tow. He mentioned being on the highway near the airport. Could it be an accident?"
"An accident?" Whitney frowned, squinting as a thought struck her, "That can't be a coincidence. Ashton, get there as fast as you can. We need that signed paternity test, no matter what!"
After a moment, Ashton's frustration boiled over, "Could Endora be behind this? Damn it, isn't she supposed to be at the police station? Check it out."
"I'll call the police station to get the scoop while using Ludwik's influence to press them."
Whitney said, "Ashton, make sure Chris is safe. Get that..."
"I'll get the damn test," Ashton snapped before hanging up.
As Whitney watched the call disconnect, her brows knitted together. She continued to chase the old man's Bentley while dialing the Banyan City Police Department.
Unsure of which precinct had detained Barclay and Endora, she waited as the department's chief sought confirmation.
After a few minutes, the chief called back, "Ms. Valentine, Endora is currently being interrogated at the Banyan City precinct for assault at the wedding and involvement in the Barclay murder case.
However, she's got a top-notch lawyer, and due to a technicality with the evidence, we're lacking sufficient grounds to hold her..."
"Insufficient evidence? Then keep looking! Are you going to let her lawyer bail her out?
Isn't assault enough for a 48-hour hold? How much did the Melford family pay off that precinct?" Whitney demanded, her tone icy.
The chief, sweating bullets, tried to reassure her, "We don't operate like that."
"If I find out you've taken bribes, remember, Ludwik is behind me. If he starts digging, your precinct could end up in deep trouble for shielding Endora!"
Feeling the pressure, the chief quickly corrected himself, "Endora's lawyer just processed her bail, but she hasn't left the station yet.
Ms. Valentine, rest assured, we have enough to detain her for the assault charge for 48 hours."
"Make sure she doesn't leave the station," Whitney instructed, ending the call with a hunch. She suspected Endora had bribed some officers to interfere with Chris.
Whitney immediately tried calling Ashton again, but he didn't pick up, likely due to the urgency of the situation.
Whitney left a voicemail, "Ashton, it seems Endora's set her sights on Chris, sending someone to sabotage us. Make sure you're well-prepared; those amateurs won't stand a chance. We need to act fast and secure what's ours!" At the Banyan City precinct-
Endora, just having reclaimed her expensive accessories, strutted towards the exit, supported by her servants. Suddenly, the precinct captain approached, questioning the officers, "Who authorized her release?"
Endora, sensing trouble, attempted to charm the captain, "Didn't you just nod in agreement with my father in your office? Captain, if there's anything else you need, let me know. My father can invite even higher authorities for a discussion over dinner about your promotion."
Expecting her veiled threat to sway him, she was taken aback when the captain's demeanor turned icy, "Detain Ms. Melford immediately. She's implicated in an assault case and can't leave before 48 hours, not to mention her involvement in a murder case." "Captain? Why are you going back on your word? My lawyer had everything arranged. It was an accident, and I've paid my bail..."
"Blame your enemies, Ms. Melford. Some have stronger connections than you. Remember, there are always bigger fish," the captain said before walking away.
The officers who were polite moments ago now turned cold, taking Endora's coat and bag, "Ms. Melford, please follow me to the detention area."
"Father, mother!" Endora whispered in desperation.
Cato rushed over, shaking his head to signal his efforts were in vain. He whispered, "Endora, I've tried everything. This isn't the Doonan family pressuring you. Parker's hands are tied right now..."
It was all Whitney's doing, I'm telling you. Didn't we send someone to intercept that paternity test courier? And there was Whitney, blocking your path!
I also heard that Winston was furious about Parker marrying Tiana on the spot. He was on his way to stop Parker, but that troublemaker Whitney followed him. She must be planning to use this opportunity to reveal the paternity test to Winston. Once Parker finds out everything you've hidden, he's going to tear our family, the Melfords, apart!
Endora's eyes widened, a mix of cold fear and panic setting in.
That witch Whitney, she's not simple at all. She waited, waited until today for this moment, aiming for this big scene. She wants to publicly expose her past misdeeds, to clear Cherry's name? No... she can't win! It can't happen that Tiana gets her wish, reuniting with Parker as a happy family of three!
At that moment, Cato received a text message, his expression darkening, "Elaine says Ashton is charging towards the airport highway with his crew. Our guys might not be a match for Ashton. But, she mentioned seeing a little girl with Ashton and said this might be the golden opportunity you've been waiting for?"
