Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1404: Investigating Chris
Chris and Rawlins were chatting animatedly, the two looked like old friends who hadn't seen each other in years.
Paulina was filled with doubt, since Chris and Rawlins knew each other so well, what was the point of taking the initiative to go over and say hello to Marcos? By now everyone knew that the Leoz Group and the Bartram Group were rivals.
Rawlins did not look good when he saw her and Marcos.
If there hadn't been so many people, Paulina was very afraid she would have pounced on Marcos and beat him up.
Marcos was not interested in Chris and Rawlins' relationship, nor did he want to know, and walked past them dismissively, leading Paulina by the hand.
As they passed, Chris and Rawlins' conversation stopped abruptly, and they both looked at each other's backs with different expressions in their eyes.
Paulina turned and saw that Rawlins and the others were still looking that way, and although she couldn't read their expressions, there was something vaguely unsettling in her mind. "Marcos," she called out.
"Hmm."
"I think there's something wrong with that Chris." Paulina looked at him.
Marcos squeezed her hand and smiled slightly, "Don't worry, it's on my mind."
Paulina nodded and said nothing more.
...
The party ended, the guests dispersed and Cris returned to his home in J-town.
A villa on the outskirts of the city.
He opened the door and entered, the room was dark.
Without turning on the lights, he went up to the second floor and entered the second bedroom.
As soon as he pushed open the door and entered, a woman standing at the window turned around.
"Back." The woman had a slight smile on her face.
"Why are you still awake?" Chris stepped forward and hugged her gently.
"I couldn't sleep."
Chris frowned slightly and looked at her, "Is it because of that man?"
The woman's eyes lowered and she asked lightly, "Do you see anyone?"
"Of course." Chris narrowed his eyes slightly, "And he met his wife."
The woman clasped the hands that had fallen to her side, her eyes clouded with sadness.
"Marcos seems a lot harder to deal with than I thought." Chris remembered Marcos' easygoing attitude and a tinge of melancholy flashed through his eyes.
"He's not supposed to be easy to deal with." The woman looked up at him, "So, you're afraid?"
Chris burst out laughing as if he had heard a joke, "Linda, do you think I'm afraid?".
Linda didn't answer right away, but reached up to dust his shoulder and the corner of her mouth curved, "Of course you're not afraid."
Chris wrapped an arm around her waist and stepped closer to her, a smirk curving the corners of his mouth, "You know what? I met Rawlins this afternoon and he's interested in working with me." "Did he say yes?" asked Linda.
"Why not?" Chris raised an eyebrow, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend, of course I'm going to work with him."
"What's more, we've been sounding out the Leoz Group for the past two years, and now it's almost time to eat the market step by step."
"And I'm doing all this..." Chris released her and looked into her eyes, "all to avenge your death."
Linda smiled, her eyes twinkling as she reached up, her fingers lightly tracing his chest, "I'm happy." "I'll do anything as long as you're happy." Chris took her hand and said with immense affection. "Thank you, Chris."
Linda turned her head to look out the window, her eyes somber.
Marcos, I'm back.
I said I'd be back in the first place, and I'm going to make you sorry you treated me like that, and I'm going to make you sorry you chose that woman, Paulina!
...
Upon arriving home, Paulina went to the children's room to check on the two boys.
Marcos went straight to the study and sat at his desk, Edwina leaning back in her chair, her face slightly pale.
As Paulina had told him, something was wrong with Chris.
But what could it be?
Alvaro entered the study just in time to see his older brother, who was in deep thought.
He approached him and asked quietly, "Brother, is something wrong at the evening reception?"
At the sound of his voice, Mark turned his head to look at him and pondered for a moment before speaking, "Alvaro, find out for me about someone." "Who?"
"Cris."
A completely unfamiliar name, Alvaro frowned, "Which one is this?"
"The man I met at the reception this afternoon."
It dawned on Alvaro, "Oh, then I'll go check now."
With those words, he hurried off.
As he left the study, he bumped into Paulina.
"Sister-in-law!"
He shouted and quickly left without waiting for Paulina to say anything.
Paulina cried and laughed when the man left so quickly.
She turned around and walked into the studio.
"What did you say to Alvaro, why does he seem to be acting like there's an emergency?" She asked, puzzled, as she approached Marcos. Before Marcos could open his mouth to answer, Paulina was quick to say, "Don't say it's nothing, I'm not that good at fooling around."
Marcos laughed, he did want to say nothing because he didn't want her to worry.
But she had said it, so he had to answer truthfully, "I asked her to look into Cris."
"So that's it." Paulina pursed her lips and thought for a moment, "It's true that we need to investigate exactly who the other party is and what their purpose is." "You don't have to worry about this. I'll figure it out."
Paulina nodded, "Hmm."
"Go to bed early, I have some business to take care of." Marcos said.
"Don't work too hard." Paulina was afraid that when she got up for work she would be back to staying up late.
"Go get some rest."
Shortly after Paulina left, Alvaro walked in.
"Brother, I checked, Chris's company is in the development and production of cars and has a large market share in Europe ..."
Speaking of this, Alvaro frowned, "He has suddenly entered the domestic market recently, I don't know if he is here to seek cooperation or if he has other intentions."
"There must be other intentions." Marcos said confidently, "He and Rawlins had a very warm conversation this afternoon."
"Rawlins?" laughed Alvaro, "I see on my knees what the two of them must be premeditating."
Marcos was silent.
"Brother, I think we should take some action or the Rawlins are really going to step on our heads." Alvaro thought about how much the Bartram Group had been moving lately, and he was furious. His brother hadn't bothered with them for a little kindness, but they're getting ahead of themselves!
"Let's wait for them to make a move." Marcos didn't want to scare the snake now.
Just then, Mrs. Gloria came in with a bowl of soup.
"Marcos, this is a hot stew made by mom herself, for your health, so hurry up and drink it while it's hot."
Alvaro saw the hot bowl, still steaming, and asked, feigning dissatisfaction, "Mom, where's mine?"
"You're strong and healthy, you don't need a tonic." Ms. Gloria set the soup down on the table and turned her head to shoot him an indifferent look.
"Am I physically strong?" Alvaro thought he had misheard.
How could he be physically strong when he had only been in a car accident and had just been released from the hospital?
