Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1543: I remembered
In the wee hours of the morning, Paulina, who was guarding the hospital bed, saw Marcos slowly open his eyes and sat up miserably. "Marcos, you're awake! How are you feeling, are you in pain?"
In response to her repeated questions, Marcos felt a warmth flow through his heart.
At the sound of his voice, Mr. Juan, Mrs. Gloria and Alvaro gathered around him, relieved to see him awake.
"I'm sorry to have worried you." Seeing the concern on everyone's faces, Marcos felt a little overwhelmed.
Mrs. Gloria pursed her lips and gently shook her head, her eyes filling with tears.
"It's good to be awake." said Sister John.
"Is something wrong?" asked Paulina worriedly as she wiped her tears.
"No."
Mark rested his hand on the bed to sit up, but as soon as he moved, a sharp pain shot through his head and made him frown.
At the sight of it, Paulina's face went white with shock, "What's wrong with you?"
"A little headache." Her face, already pale, looked even whiter.
Alvaro saw that something was wrong and immediately went out to call a doctor. Soon the doctor arrived.
Paulina stood watching as the doctor examined Marcos, hands clasped nervously.
When the doctor finished, she anxiously asked, "Doctor, how is he?".
The doctor replied, "Nothing is wrong, the headache is a symptom of the impact, lie down and rest, in a few days you will be fine."
"Is he really fine? But look how sore he is, his face is very white". Paulina looked at Marcos with anguish.
At that moment, Marcos relaxed a little and said reassuringly, "Paulina, I'm very well."
"But..."
Paulina was about to say something else but he cut her off, "It's just that I had a little headache a moment ago, it's better now." "Marcos, are you really okay?" asked Mrs. Gloria restlessly.
"Well, really."
The doctor stood up, "I know you're all worried about him, but there's really nothing wrong with him. Call me if you need anything." The doctor left.
Paulina was quick to grab Mark's hand, frowning, "If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, make sure you say so, you don't need to hold it in just because you're afraid I'm worried about him, got it?" "Okay, understood." Marcos couldn't help but lose his smile.
"Brother, it's good that you're okay. My sister-in-law was so worried she was going to faint." exclaimed Alvaro.
Marcos looked at Paulina with tenderness in his eyes, "Believe me, I'm fine. But you, are you hurt?"
Paulina shook her head, "No."
She had hurt herself to protect her.
So how could she have been hurt?
At the thought of this, Paulina could not contain the emotions in her heart and jumped up and hugged him.
As she felt the warmth of his body, tears welled up in her eyes and she choked out, "Good thing you're okay, otherwise I wouldn't know what to do."
Her sobs fell on her ears and Marcos, disconsolate, put his arms around her, gently stroked her hair with the palms of his hands and whispered soothingly in her ear, "Don't cry, I'm here in good health, right?". While contemplating this scene, Mrs. Gloria wiped her tears on her side.
Mr. Juan put his arm around her shoulder and silently comforted her.
Only when Paulina's emotions subsided did Marcos look at his parents, the corners of his lips slightly curved, "Mom and Dad, I'm fine now, you can go back and rest."
Mr. Juan and Mrs. Gloria didn't want to disturb the two, so they nodded, "Okay. Call us if anything comes up."
When their parents had gone out, Marcos looked at Alvaro, who was standing still, and raised an eyebrow, "Aren't you going back?"
"Back, of course." Alvaro laughed out loud, "I'm not so insensitive as to stay here and be a lightning rod. You guys go to bed early too, I'm going back."
Alvaro had the good sense to turn around and leave, and closed the door softly behind him.
He looked at the closed bedroom door and realized that his brother must have something to say alone with his sister-in-law.
...
The infirmary was silent.
Paulina leaned on Mark's arms for a while before stepping back and raising her hand to wipe away her tears. "It's too late now, you should rest." With that, she got up and prepared to go sit in the chair next to him, not wanting to disturb his rest.
"Paulina," Marcos took her hand.
She turned and looked into his dark eyes.
He slowly lifted the corners of his lips and even his eyes quirked a faint smile, "I remembered."
Paulina froze, "Remembered what?".
"From ..." Marcos paused, "Of what happened before I met Earlene, and of all the memories I had with you."
Paulina was confused for a moment, then reacted with surprise and disbelief, "Really?!"
Marcos smiled, "Yes. It all comes back to me."
He pulled her into his arms and hugged her.
Not only did he remember the memories of being with Paulina, but also the time when he was about to marry Earlene.
He didn't know how he felt inside at that moment.
If it had been her marrying someone else, he would have been unable to bear it.
She must have felt the same way.
At this thought, he hugged her tightly, as if he wanted to embed her in his body.
Paulina squeezed into his arms, feeling his breath envelop her, the steady sound of his heartbeat in her ears, it was all so reassuring.
Her Mark was finally back in one piece!
A smile bloomed on her lips, but her eyes were moist.
She whimpered and choked out, "Don't ever forget me again."
Mark released her and looked at her, wiping away her tears with gentle fingers, "I won't forget you again. This time, thank you for hanging in there and not giving up on me." Paulina's heart was rooted and calm as it had not been for a long time.
Nothing, she thought, could ever separate her from Marcos again.
She buried her head in his chest and rubbed it gently, "Who made you my husband, what would I do if I gave up on you?" "Good girl."
Marcos stroked her hair, his voice incredibly soft.
The atmosphere in the room was calm and warm as the two embraced in silence.
After a while, Marcos put his arm around Paulina's waist and pulled her up onto the bed.
Paulina gave a little gasp.
"Lie down." said Marcos.
"It's a little small, I'd better get down."
"No. Lie down."
At Marcos' insistence, Paulina lay down as she had been told.
Marcos turned around and they were facing each other, all four eyes facing each other.
He reached up and smoothed Paulina's locks of hair behind her ears, lifting the corners of her lips, "Go to sleep."
Paulina said, "Yes," and closed her eyes.
She was very tired.
After the shock and worry, she was physically and mentally exhausted.
In a few moments, she fell asleep.
Marcos gave her a soft kiss on her forehead, "Good night."
Then, wrapping his arms around her waist, he closed his eyes and quickly fell asleep as well.
