Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 263: Resignation
It was not a night of restful sleep for Eloise Thompson.
She dreamed of the past, of the child, of Hector Rogers, a very messy dream.
Woke up with a splitting headache.
Struggling to sit up from the bed, she looked around and realised she was in a hotel.
Memories of last night flooded back to her mind and she remembered meeting Egbert Chumley at the bar.
He should have been the one to bring himself to the hotel.
It was like being hit in the head with a hammer, one painful blow at a time.
Unbearable!
She raised a hand to rub her aching temples when a knock sounded at the door.
"Eloise, are you up?"
It is Egbert Chumley.
"Get up."
She rushed out of bed and ran to the door.
As soon as Egbert Chumley saw her, a gentle smile appeared on his handsome face and he asked, "Did you sleep well?" Eloise Thompson returned a smile, "It's not bad."
With those words, she raised her hand and rubbed the corner of her forehead.
Seeing this, Egbert Chumley frowned, "Headache?"
"Hmm. Probably too much wine."
Seeing that she didn't look well, Egbert Chumley's frown tightened, "I'll talk to reception and make some sober tea."
He turned around and Eloise Thompson hastily pulled him back, "Alumni, no, I'm fine."
Egbert Chumley turned his head to look at her, "Is it really all right?"
"Really. I'll be fine after I rest."
Lest he didn't believe her, Eloise Thompson smiled extra wide and looked like nothing.
Egbert Chumley then put his head down.
"Hungry, I think." Egbert Chumley said, "I'll have the hotel bring up breakfast while you go and wash up."
"Good."
Eloise Thompson washed up and came out to call the table already set for breakfast.
"Eloise, come and have breakfast." Egbert Chumley greeted her with a smile.
Looking at Egbert Chumley with a gentle, light smile, Eloise Thompson's heart felt a little warm, but at the same time she felt very sorry for him. Alumni's good and she knows it.
Only, with such kindness, she didn't know how to return the favour.
Seeing her still standing still, Egbert Chumley frowned slightly, "Eloise, what's on your mind?"
Eloise Thompson snapped back to her senses and walked over quickly, "Didn't think anything of it."
Egbert Chumley looked at her for a moment and didn't ask any more questions.
"Have your breakfast." Egbert Chumley helped her pour the milk.
"Thanks."
Eloise Thompson took a sip of the milk and then looked up at him, "Alumni, thank you for last night."
Egbert Chumley lost his smile, "You don't have to be so polite to me."
Eloise Thompson pursed her lips and asked, "I didn't give you any trouble last night, did I?"
"No." Egbert Chumley put down the glass in his hand and continued, "Eloise, you needn't be afraid to give me trouble."
Eloise Thompson smiled and said nothing more.
The two men ate their breakfast in silence and when they had finished, Egbert Chumley asked, "Where do you want to go? I'll drive you." Where to go?
Eloise Thompson wiped her mouth for a moment, where was she going? And where could she go?
Whether it was the company, or meeting Hector Rogers, she felt as if she was suffocating.
She couldn't face Hector Rogers, she was afraid he would find her unbearable.
She admitted that she was indeed cowardly.
Cowardly enough to think that if you don't see him, nothing will happen.
When she didn't say anything, Egbert Chumley thought about how out of sorts she had been last night and asked tentatively, "What happened with you and Hector Rogers?" Eloise Thompson froze, then reacted and shook her head gently, "We're fine."
If it's okay, why didn't you answer your phone last night? And why didn't you go back?
Egbert Chumley had so many questions in his mind, but didn't ask them after all.
He knew that even if he asked, she would not answer.
"Is there somewhere you want to go?" Egbert Chumley asked.
Eloise Thompson thought about it and an idea slowly formed in her head.
"Alumni."
"Hmm?"
"Can you do me a favour?"
Egbert Chumley was stunned, then responded and said, "Whatever you need to do to help, just ask."
As long as it was her business, he was willing to help.
Eloise Thompson bit her lip, "I want to get out of here."
At that, Egbert Chumley was shocked, "What the hell happened to you? What made you want to leave?"
"It's nothing." Eloise Thompson still wouldn't say.
"Eloise, is it something to do with Hector Rogers?" Eloise Thompson looked away, "Alumni, don't ask."
It must have something to do with Hector Rogers. Egbert Chumley is certain.
"Alumni, can you help me?"
She wouldn't say anything and she couldn't refuse herself, Egbert Chumley sighed and nodded, "I'll help you."
Eloise Thompson curled her lips, "Thank you, Alumni."
Egbert Chumley pursed his lips without saying a word, a slight frown of concern in his eyes as he wondered whether he was right or wrong to do this favour.
...
Now that you have decided to leave, don't leave anything behind.
Eloise Thompson went to the hospital first, she found Ruben Dawson and the first thing she said was, "Mr Dawson, could you please transfer my mother to the hospital?" "Transferred?" Ruben Dawson looked at her in surprise, "Eloise, your mother is only getting better, why should she be transferred?"
"Mr Dawson, I've been reassigned by the company to another city and I'm afraid I'll leave my mother here with no one to look after her."
Eloise Thompson has found a random reason to explain it.
Ruben Dawson was convinced, "So that's what happened. In fact, you could have left your mother here, but I'm here."
"Mr Dawson, you have more than just my mother as a patient."
Ruben Dawson was already particularly concerned about her mother and she didn't want to cause him any more trouble.
By the look of her, she should have already made up her mind.
After all, it was her mother, and he, the attending doctor, could not stop it.
"Okay, I'll get you a transfer, but..." Ruben Dawson gave a beat and specifically told her, "if anything happens to your mum make sure you contact me." Eloise Thompson nodded, "Good."
After the transfer was completed, Eloise Thompson went back to return the house as well, and then sent a letter of resignation to Layla Davidson. Layla Davidson called in.
"Eloise, why the sudden resignation?"
"Layla Davidson, I'm sorry." Eloise Thompson looked up at the sky, the sky that belonged to City J, and a wave of unspeakable emotions came over her. "Eloise, is it because of the post that you're quitting?"
Eloise Thompson didn't answer, but it was a tacit acknowledgement.
She has been instrumental in the JS Group winning a number of major projects over the years and Layla Davidson didn't want to lose such a valuable assistant.
"Eloise, whether the post is true or not, or what your past is, it has nothing to do with your job, just keep your mind on it."
"Also, this time it was a hack, the company is already tracking down the other party and will make sure this is taken care of."
Layla Davidson said all this to try to retain her.
She had met good people, but why did her relatives refuse to leave her alone instead?
With a sinking feeling in her heart at the thought, she took a deep breath and tried to lighten her tone, "Layla Davidson, I've been working all this time and I'm a bit tired, so I thought I'd give myself a break and relax." "Then you can take annual leave for as long as you like."
"Thank you, Layla Davidson. but I must resign from this post."
"You ..."
She was determined to go and Layla Davidson knew there was no point in saying anything else, "Fine, I'll agree to it."
