Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 2
Chapter 2:
? ? ? ? ?
Luis was the one who opened the door. It seemed like he was already leaving.
Raegan curled her hands into a ball, turned to him, and nodded.
“Hey, Mr. Stevens!”
Without waiting for him to respond to her greeting, she walked past him and entered the office with the document.
Mitchel was sitting behind a luxurious desk. In an expensive suit and matching tie, he looked especially handsome.
Raegan realized it wasn't the same suit she was wearing when she left the house last night. How had it changed?
With his eyes downcast, he swallowed that question and said instead, “Mr. Dixon, this is from the Marketing Department. Please sign it.
Mitchel was expressionless as he signed the document at a glance.
Raegan was out the door as soon as she handed him the document. Luis was still standing in the doorway.
It wasn't until she was out of sight that Luis turned to Mitchel and said in a low voice, “Shit! Do you think he heard us?
Mitchel's attractive eyes were expressionless at this moment. Obviously, he wasn't paying attention to what Luis was saying.
To Mitchel, Raegan had always been docile and had never been jealous of anyone.
Her strict obedience was all Mitchel required of her in exchange for treating her well.
In the elevator.
Raegan held her breath to hold back tears. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
He had thought that two years would be enough for Mitchel to realize how much he loved him and to reciprocate his love.
But it turned out that it was nothing more than a pipe dream.
He realized that he would always be the second dish to Lauren, Mitchel's true love.
Reagan wiped away tears as the elevator stopped. Except for his pale face, he seemed normal when the doors opened.
He crept into the break room, intending to make himself a cup of tea.
Inside there were several employees chatting.
«Guys, have you heard? "Lauren Murray is back."
«And who is it?»
"Oh! Don't you know her? Lauren is the heir to the Murray Group, as well as a world-class designer. More importantly, she is the only girlfriend Mr. Dixon has ever shown in public. "It's his first love."
«Why is his return so important? Isn't it rumored that there is something between Mr. Dixon and Raegan?
«Raegan? It's probably one of his many sex toys. Mr. Dixon never admitted that he was dating her. And that doesn't surprise me.
After all, look at her. She's not even that beautiful. However, she behaves as if she is already Mrs. Dixon. What a fool!
Standing in the doorway, Raegan smiled self-mockingly as she listened to them. It turned out that everyone else saw the truth except her.
The love was one-sided.
"Ha ha, has Mrs. Dixon finally awakened from her wild dream?"
A mocking voice suddenly came from behind. Raegan turned around to see Tessa Lloyd, Mitchel's cousin, who had always despised her.
Tessa must have heard the employees gossip too.
The last thing Raegan wanted to do now was argue with Tessa at the company. He turned to leave, but Tessa blocked his way.
With a cup of coffee in her hand, Tessa said sarcastically, “Lauren's back. Do you think Mitchel will still pay attention to you?
Raegan didn't say anything about it.
Seconds later, Tessa continued her mockery.
«I heard you're pretty good in bed. How about I introduce you to a couple of men? "They could use your services very well."
Raegan clenched her fists and said coldly, “Miss Lloyd, we are in the company, not a brothel. If you are interested in that type of business, you know where to go.
"You…"
Raegan had just implied she was a pimp. This made Tessa's face change.
The next second, Tessa raised her hand and emptied the cup of hot coffee onto Raegan.
Raegan didn't think for a second that Tessa would do something so crazy. He raised his arms to block the hot liquid from his face. In a flash, the coffee burned his arm and his skin turned red.
"Oh!" Raegan frowned, pained.
«Why did you do that? Have you gone crazy?
It was lunchtime and many employees were free to watch the drama.
Tessa was even more accommodating when she saw the number of curious people growing.
She made a bad girl face as she said, “What makes you so stuck up every day, huh? Do you really think that others don't know that you're nothing more than a parentless bastard? The nerve of…”
Suddenly there was a crisp sound.
Tessa was silenced by a hot slap to the face.
His jaw dropped to the floor. She had never expected that Raegan, who was so quiet and shy, would slap her.
Tessa held her cheek and stared blankly for a while. Then he stammered: “Did you… did you hit me? "How dare you."
Raegan stared at her and replied, “Yes, I have! It seems like you need to be taught how to be polite.
Indeed, Raegan lost her parents when she was a child. But that didn't mean she let anyone walk all over her for it.
Wrinkles appeared on Tessa's face as she frowned, angry. As Mitchel's cousin, she was used to being flattered and respected.
It was the first time she had been treated like this.
"Bitch!"
Tessa charged at Raegan like a raging bull, raising her hand to slap him back.
This time, Raegan was fully prepared for what was coming. He grabbed Tessa's wrist so tightly that she couldn't move another inch.
Tessa was shorter than Raegan. As a result, Tessa struggled like an octopus that has one of its tentacles stuck in a fishing trap.
Tessa cursed angrily, “How dare you put your dirty hands on me? Who the hell do you think you are? You're nothing more than Mitchel's toy.
"You are worse than a prostitute who fucks many men."
These harsh words attracted more people to the break room.
"Enough!"
Suddenly, a baritone came from behind. Mitchel had left his office and came across this commotion.
The entire room fell silent.
“Mitchel?” Tessa's blood ran cold when she saw Mitchel. I had always been afraid of him. Her mother also warned her not to provoke him.
But when she remembered that Raegan slapped her, she put on a pitiful expression and sobbed.
«Mitchel, look at my face. "He slapped me."
The sunlight from outside fell on Mitchel's handsome face.
Raegan suddenly felt so sorry and lowered her head to look at the back of her coffee-scalded arm.
Their gazes met in the air. Frowning deeply, Mitchel looked at Raegan and said, “Raegan, have you forgotten the company rules?”
His relentlessness made Raegan's breathing stop. I couldn't believe my ears.
No one dared to make noise at that time.
Raegan stood there with her slender figure.
When she'd been hired here, Mitchel had told her that the Dixon Group wasn't a place for her to fool around and that she wouldn't tolerate any mistakes.
Raegan understood his position.
However, at that moment, she was desperate to know if Mitchel had heard those harsh words Tessa scolded her with or was simply pretending not to have heard them because he agreed with them.
Did he really see her as a tool for his pleasure?
Frightened by Mitchel's fury, the crowd soon dispersed. A few employees dared to spy from a distance, unwilling to miss the good show.
Mitchel's cold eyes made Raegan shiver from head to toe.
Raegan pinched her palm to suppress her emotions as she looked at Tessa.
"I'm sorry, Miss Lloyd. "As an employee of the Dixon Group, it was wrong of me to have hit her."
Looking at Raegan, Tessa lifted her chin complacently.
«Humph! Don't think you'll get away with a simple apology. I don't believe..."
«The slap has nothing to do with the company. Personally, I refuse to apologize. “Now if you’ll excuse me,” Raegan interjected.
Then he walked past Mitchel without giving him another glance.
“You… Bitch!”
Tessa's face turned blue hearing what Raegan said.
Never in her years of life had she felt so humiliated. She had always been the bully, not the victim.
The humiliation was so great that tearing Raegan to pieces now would not appease his anger.
Pointing in Raegan's direction, Tessa shouted, “Mitchel, did you hear what that woman just said? He slapped me in the face, and yet he's so arrogant. Call her again. "I have to slap her until she cries for mercy."
Mitchel, staring at Raegan's thin back, had an ambiguous expression at the moment.
"Enough!" he said coldly, raising his hand.
As someone who lived and breathed drama and cruelty, Tessa didn't think Mitchel had a soft spot for Raegan at the moment. He guessed that Mitchel didn't care about Raegan at all.
Tessa gritted her teeth and said evilly, “Next time, I'll have someone teach that bitch a lesson.”
“Tessa!” Mitchel's tone and narrowed eyes turned her into a reprimand.
Tessa trembled immediately.
With a grim face, Mitchel said, “I'll only say it once. Forget what happened here today. Leave Raegan alone.
The aura he gave off made his tongue dry. All the vicious thoughts he had harbored against Raegan disappeared in an instant.
He stuttered: “Okay… Okay, got it…”
Mitchel gave him a cold look and turned to Matteo.
"Irrelevant people will not be able to enter here from today."
Without grasping the intent, Tessa complimented Mitchel.
«Good decision. This is a first class company. "Not everyone has access here."
Matteo nodded to Mitchel and then walked over to Tessa. He pointed to the exit.
"Mrs. Lloyd, this way, please.
It wasn't until that moment that Tessa realized that she was the irrelevant person Mitchel had just mentioned. He tried to talk to him, but Matteo blocked his way. The security guards kicked her out.
They had no mercy on her. Their fight was useless.
Meanwhile, Raegan changed when she returned to her office.
Her heart filled with sadness when she thought about how Mitchel looked at her minutes ago.
Closing time soon arrived.
Raegan grabbed her bag and headed for the exit. However, Matteo stopped her.
He said, "Mr. Dixon has something urgent to discuss, so he asked me to take you home."
Raegan turned down the trip without a second thought.
She was blind before, but now she could see through the situation.
In Mitchel's eyes, she was nothing more than a nobody.
How could Mitchel agree to accompany her to visit her grandmother when he didn't even care about her?
Upon arriving at the hospital, Raegan saw that the nurse was preparing to feed her grandmother dinner. Raegan took on the job and did it herself.
All her life, her grandmother had lived in the countryside, enjoying a quiet life. Everything changed last month, when his routine medical checkup showed that something was wrong with his pancreas. Raegan insisted on taking her to the city for better treatment.
Her grandmother was unaware of her marriage to Mitchel.
Raegan had planned to surprise him today. But it turned out that it was no longer necessary.
Raegan waited for her grandmother to fall asleep before leaving. He left the hospital and waited for a taxi.
In the distance, a black luxury car stopped at the entrance of the hospital.
Raegan's eyes lit up when she saw him. He recognized that car as Mitchel's.
Had he come to pick her up?
In that moment, he forgot all the pain he had felt.
Were her thoughts about him wrong? Did he care about her, contrary to what gossip said?
The driver's door opened and Mitchel stepped out.
Raegan started walking towards him, her heart bursting with joy.
Suddenly, he stopped dead.
Mitchel had just reached the other side and had pulled a woman out of the car.
His handsome face reflected concern and compassion.
This wiped away Raegan's smile. His heart sank.
