Married On Paper To The Billionaire -
Chapter 37: All At Once
Shortly after her family left, it began to rain. Emilia sat on the porch with Travis but they were driven back inside the house by the leaking roof.
She decided to make pancakes for Travis but then thought she heard someone tinkering about on the porch. When she went to check, she found Matt there, fixing the leaking roof. The rain had stopped but the skies were still dark with the promise of a coming storm.
"What are you doing here?" She asked and Matt almost fell off his small ladder.
"Jesus! You startled me. I thought everyone was gone."
"Travis and I are still here. How did you know the roof was bad?"
"It's been like this for a while now. I kept promising Bertha that I'll fix it but I never got around to doing it. When it started to rain, I remembered and rushed down here to finally fix it as my parting gift to Bertha." "That's sweet," said Emilia. She was genuinely touched by his kindness.
Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky followed by a loud rumble of thunder. The sound rattled the windows and Travis screamed with fright.
"That's a big storm coming," said Matt.
"Better come inside when you're done. You don't want to be caught in that," she said and hurried inside to console her crying son.
When he was done with the roof, he went inside to join them and got served some pancakes and hot cocoa. They sat at the kitchen table chatting casually when the rain began outside.
Both of them ran around the house, shutting windows and making sure that the doors were locked. It was a windy storm and everywhere needed to be locked up tightly to prevent the rain from getting in.
Travis fell asleep and Emilia carried him upstairs to tuck him into bed. When she returned downstairs, Matt was sitting on the couch in the living room, scrolling through his phone absently. Something about his relaxed posture warmed her insides. He looked very much at home and she wanted to feel that way too. Without a word, she joined him on the couch and crept under his arm.
Matt looked into her eyes and all his inhibitions left him. She wanted him and he wanted her too. It was a moment he'd dreamed of for such a long time.
"What are you waiting for?" She whispered.
He responded by kissing her like a starved man. He wanted all of her and couldn't get enough. His hands roamed all over her body, touching, probing, feeling...
"Gosh, you feel so good," he whispered.
He kissed her everywhere and handled her tenderly like a fragile treasure. Emilia felt appreciated, needed...
"Make love to me, Matt," she urged him.
"I've waited so long to hear you say those words," he replied happily.
They became intimate on Granny's couch, whispering and sighing as their bodies joined. It was a blissful experience that they repeated a few more times on the floor and in the kitchen while the storm raged angrily outside. Matt spent the night with her and by the next morning, he told her had to leave because he had an early call at the ranch where he was working as a manager. He couldn't just skip work without giving prior notice. "Will I see you soon?" Emilia asked as he got dressed to leave.
"Sure. Once I clock out for today, I'm coming straight here for a rematch."
"Yeah, right," she laughed.
He sobered up. "What about your husband?"
"What about him?"
"You guys are still together, right?"
"Not exactly. We're separated. I might make it official after today."
She added a wink after the last part of her statement and it made him grin. He sauntered back to her on the couch where she lay and he kissed her slowly.
"Mmm... don't make me undress you," she murmured against his lips.
He laughed and stood up. "I'll see you tonight," he said softly. "Give Travis a big hug for me when he wakes up."
"Will do," she replied and watched him leave. She waited for that crushing guilt that should come after indulging in such disgraceful behavior but it never came.
She wasn't sorry for sleeping with Matt. After all, Kane was having the time of his life with that vile human being called Serena, so why shouldn't she enjoy herself too?
After tidying up the house and attending to her son's needs for the morning, they went outside to see what damage the storm had done last night.
Granny's little vegetable garden had suffered a heavy blow from the tumultuous weather, so Emilia took it upon herself to fix the place. It was such a therapeutic activity and Travis had a swell time playing with the watering can and plastic shovel.
"Hello!"
"Over here. We're in the backyard," Emilia answered the unseen caller. It was probably one of Granny's neighbors or church friends.
"Oh, there you are. Hey, cutie!"
Emilia was surprised to see Molly. She wore a yellow sundress that was too bright for her fair skin. She'd held her long hair up with two yellow barrettes on either side of her head.
"Hi, Molly. We - I wasn't expecting you," Emilia stuttered.
"Of course, you weren't. Is there anyone else around?"
"No, it's just me and my son here."
"I see. So, where was he while you were fornicating with my fiancé last night?"
Emilia's face turned red. She glanced at her son but then remembered that he was too young to understand the conversation. Still...
"I think you may have misunderstood his - "
"Don't bother with the lies, Emilia. He told me everything. Matt could never tell a lie even if his life depended on it."
Crap!
"Have you no shame?" Molly continued. "A married woman like you with the kind of husband that every woman dreams of. Why would you dishonour your marriage like that?" "Listen, it's not what you think."
"Isn't it? Weren't you aware that you were still married or that Matt was engaged to me while you were sleeping with him? How could you even do that?"
Emilia opened her mouth to speak but Molly silenced her with a raised finger.
"Now, you listen to me, you shameless adulteress. Matt is mine and he will always be mine. I have been looking forward to marrying him since we were in high school and I'm not going to let you blow in from the city with all your money to steal that dream from me."
"I wasn't - "
"I'm not done talking. Stay away from Matt for as long as you remain in this town until you return to your husband in the city. If you don't want me to announce your whoring activities to the world, then get your perfectly manicured paws off my man. Is that clear?"
"Yes."
"Matt is hard working and honest, but if it wasn't for me, he wouldn't have gotten that manager position he now occupies in my father's ranch. Don't make him lose his dream job and dream girl all at once." Emilia doubted that Molly was Matt's dream girl but she kept that observation to herself and nodded solemnly in response to the other woman's threat.

"Good. Since we now understand each other, I shall take my leave. Bye, cute boy."
She pranced off like an excited child and Emilia was left to ponder on what had just happened. What the hell was wrong with Matt?
Why would he tell his fiancée of his infidelity? Was he truly just being honest or was he deliberately trying to sabotage his relationship with Molly?
Emilia didn't know much about their relationship but she could tell that Matt wasn't really into Molly as she was with him. There was no chemistry between them and he didn't seem bothered about his fiancée finding out about last night's tryst. He'd only been concerned about Kane finding out.
As she'd expected, Matt didn't come back that night and she didn't bother to call him to ask why because she already knew.
A week passed and she didn't hear from Matt anymore or run into him on the few occasions that she and Travis went out for groceries and evening strolls. She felt insulted by his silence but then again, the poor guy was only trying to save his neck.
Kane rarely called and when he did, he was only interested in speaking with Travis. Emilia didn't mind that much because she too wasn't interested in talking to him.
She and Travis received an unexpected guest on a Sunday afternoon when they were returning from their late morning trip to the lake.
"Chloe, what are you doing here?"
"Koo-ey!" Travis squealed and ran into his aunty's arms.
"Hey, handsome. I missed you!" She gushed and hugged her nephew.
"What are you doing here?" Emilia repeated.
"This is my grandmother's house too, remember?"
"Yes but you hated it here. Did Mom and Dad send you here?"
Chloe rolled her eyes dramatically. "No, Emilia. This isn't the 1870s. If they wanted to pass a message to you they could've simply called you on the phone, not sent me hundreds of miles down here." "Right. Thanks for the quick lesson on information technology. Come on, Travy, let's go inside."
"Oh, please, Emilia. Stop being such a tight ass."
"Did you come here to insult me?"
"No," she said soberly. "I'm in trouble."
"I figured as much. What have you done now?"
"I'm pregnant."
Emilia just stood there and stared blankly at her sister. She was afraid to ask the next question but Chloe supplied the answer anyway.
"It's Samuel's and he wants me to get rid of it."
"What!"
"That was my reaction too. I mean, this guy said he loved me and he wanted to leave his wife for me, now this!"
"Let's go inside," Emilia said and helped Chloe carry her bag in. "What do you want? Tea or coffee?" "Neither. I'm fine, thank you."
"How far along are you?"
"Seven weeks. I want to keep it, Emilia. I know I'm young and all of that, but I really want to have this baby."

"It would be a scandal. Yeah, I know."
"Come on, Chloe... this is insane."
"I know, and yes, you warned me about Samuel but I didn't listen. I thought we were both in love but it turns out that I'm just a dumb girl after all."
"Don't say that. We all make mistakes. Who else knows about this."
"Only you."
"Let's keep it that way for now."
Later that evening, Chloe rushed into the kitchen where Emilia was making dinner to show her some photos on her smartphone.
Emilia squinted at the phone because it was literally in her face, but then, her eyes widened when she recognized the people in the photos.
"Lillian and Serena? What the hell is this about?"
"It's on all the blogs. Your sister-in-law has been going shopping with your husband's baby mama. There are claims that this Serena bitch is having Jack's baby." "What?"
"That's the juice, big sis. Your in-laws are cooking up a storm in their nasty kitchen of lies."
Emilia was furious. She marched out of the kitchen and went to the living room to grab her phone. Kane answered the call almost immediately.
"What?" He snapped.
"What's this nonsense going on with Serena and Lillian?"
"Why do you care?"
"Haven't you seen the news everywhere? They're claiming that her baby is Jack's!"
"So?"
"Wait. You're in on it too?"
"What's your point, Emilia?"
"How could you do this to me, Kane? You guys are trying to rebrand Serena's image and make her a part of the family. Have you forgotten who she is and what she's done?"
"Listen, Emilia, I don't owe you an explanation. This is no longer any of your business. We're separated, remember?"
He hung up and Emilia's jaw hung open in shock. Her phone chimed and when she checked it, she saw a text message that made her knees buckle.
Chloe came in just in time to see her big sister swooning as if she was about to faint. She rushed to her side and Emilia simply showed her the text. "If you want to see your daughter again, come to the Homer Shed in Norwalk."
"Chloe, do you know what this means? My daughter is still alive!"
"Isn't Norwalk in Connecticut?"
"I don't care if it's in the North Pole. I'm going to get my baby. I'm going to bring my daughter back home!"
