Married On Paper To The Billionaire -
Chapter 38: It’s A Crazy World
"Are these guys for real?" Chloe asked in awe as she watched the news on TV with Emilia.
It was the following day after receiving that disturbing text and she'd spent nearly 24 hours on Google, trying to search the exact location of the Homer Shed.
"I can't believe this," Chloe continued.
"When it comes to the Beaumonts, nothing surprises me anymore about them."
"Did you know they were working on this so-called rehabilitation center?"
"No. Once they accepted Serena as a part of the household, I became the outsider. I'm also just finding out now along with millions of viewers that my husband's family is commissioning a new drug abuse rehabilitation center in memory of the newly deceased Jack."
"But you should be there too. Instead, they took that kidnapper there. That's so disrespectful."
"Oh, well. As you can see, they're passing her off as Jack's girlfriend who's pregnant with his baby. That earns them extra sympathy votes."
"We should expose them to the world and let everyone know the truth!"
"And then what? Look, I don't care what they decide to do. I'm just concerned about finding my daughter."
"Have you figured out the location yet?"
"No. It's so frustrating. It's as if the place doesn't exist. I don't even know where to start!"
"What if whoever sent that to you was just trying to torment you for the fun of it?"
"That would be incredibly cruel. I hope that's not the case."
Emilia was restless. Maybe she should just travel to Norfolk first then start asking around for the place. That was better than staying here and spending hours trying to track a location that seems nonexistent.
An idea occurred to her and she acted on it without even pausing to have a second thought about it. She texted the address to Matt and quickly explained what it was about.
To her surprise, he responded and even offered to travel with her to the location. She almost couldn't believe it. He wanted to go on the trip with her!
"What's that smile about? Have you found the place?" Chloe asked her.
"Not really, but I've found someone who's ready to go on the trip with me."
"Wow, who is it?"
"Matt. He used to be Granny's unofficial handyman."
"Cool. When do you guys leave?"
"We haven't planned that far yet but we need to hit the road as soon as possible."
"Please, don't tell me you want to drive all the way to Connecticut."
Emilia chuckled. "I love road trips but not this time around. We'll take a flight there and back."
"Are you going to tell Kane about this?"
"Why should I? We're no longer on the same page as you can see."
"What about the police?"
"I'm sure they'll be helpful this time, but I'll inform them if things get dicey."
"I don't know... what if this is some kind of trap?"
"Look, if we think that way, we might miss out on a real opportunity to rescue Tiara. I'll take my chances."
Her mind was made up and nothing would stop her. Matt stopped by that evening to discuss the movement with her. Because Chloe was with them, they couldn't talk about the awkward silence that had stretched between them for several days after that confrontation with Molly.
"I hope you guys understand how risky this trip is," said Chloe. "Are you sure we shouldn't involve the police?"
"Relax, Chloe. We'll be fine," said Emilia confidently.
"What about Travis?"
"I think you two should head back to California. I can't take him along on the trip and I don't want to leave you guys alone here. I don't think you'd be able to cope with a toddler in your present state." "Why? What's wrong with her?" Matt asked.
The sister exchanged glances and Chloe said, "I'm a bit under the weather."
"Yes," Emilia agreed.
"Oh, sorry about that. You should head back to the city then."
"What are you going to tell Molly?" Emilia asked him.
"The truth. I'm just trying to help out a friend in need."
"Who's Molly?" Chloe asked.
"Matt's girlfriend." "Fiancee," he corrected.
"Ah, yes. You're right."
Chloe noticed the awkwardness between them but she didn't think much of it. Emilia and Matt agreed to make the trip over the weekend when he wouldn't be at work. She hoped Molly wouldn't stop him from going with her. After Matt left, the sisters retired for the night with an exhausted toddler who'd had so much fun playing all day as usual. The following morning turned sour for Chloe when she logged on to her social media accounts and saw the most gut- wrenching news going viral everywhere.
She and Emilia were drinking their morning coffee when her mood sank as she read the latest news making the rounds online.
"That sick liar!" She screeched.
"What is it?" Emilia asked. "Is something wrong?"
"The Beaumonts had a dinner party last night after that rehabilitation nonsense and during the event, Samuel went on a knee and asked Lillian to marry him again. They're renewing their wedding vows soon!" "Oh..."
Chloe began to cry. She was so heartbroken because any chance of her and Samuel ever getting back together had just been destroyed. He was never going to leave his wife.
"I'm so sorry, Chloe," Emilia tried to console her but she was inconsolable. She wept bitterly.
"He lied to me," she cried. "He deceived me and lied to me..."
Suddenly she began to groan and clutch her belly tightly. She began to twist her body as if she was in great pain.
"What is it, Chloe? What's going on? Are you ok?"
"No...," she groaned. "My belly... is killing me!"
The noise attracted Travis who had been playing in the living room. When he saw his aunt in pain, he began to whimper.
"Stop, Koo-ey..."
"It's ok, honey. Go back and play. Chloe will be ok," said Emilia. "Go on, go and keep playing."
He hesitated but he eventually walked away. When Emilia looked back at her sister who was slowly slipping off her chair, she noticed a trail of blood running down her leg.

"Ugh..." Chloe continued to moan. She looked as if she was about to pass out from the pain.
Emilia gingerly helped her lie on the floor before she raced to the living room to grab the telephone and call 911 since she couldn't remember where she dropped her mobile phone.
By the time she was done with the call and returned to where Chloe was lying down on the floor, she saw that her sister was now unconscious. Emilia didn't need a medical diagnosis to know what was happening. Travis came back and was staring wide-eyed at Chloe who was slowly getting surrounded by a small pool of blood.
"Mommy, see. Sowberry!" He squealed.
"No, honey, that's not strawberry," Emilia said and scooped the boy up. "Wanna watch TV?"
"Yes!"
"Great. Let's go then."
She took him back to the living room and put him on the couch, then she switched on the TV and surfed through the channels until she found one showing a cartoon movie.
"There you go. Stay here and I'll bring you some milk and cookies, ok?"
"Ok," he replied excitedly while his eyes were glued to the screen.
"Where's the damn ambulance?" She muttered as she knelt beside her unconscious sister. "Chloe, can you hear me?"
No response. "Damn it!"
She rushed into the kitchen to grab a pack of cookies which she poured into a small plate. Then she poured some milk into a small plastic cup and placed the refreshments on a little tray which she took to Travis. "Here, sweetie. Eat these for now until I make breakfast, ok?"
He nodded and grabbed a cookie. Emilia rushed back to where Chloe was still lying on the floor, unresponsive.
"Gosh, why is the ambulance taking so long? And where the heck is my phone?"
She ran upstairs to check the bedroom she'd shared with Travis and sure enough, her phone was beside the pillow. Kane had called her twice and there was a text from her mom asking if they were ok.
Emilia ignored all of that and dialled Matt's number. Immediately he answered the call, she rapidly explained everything that was happening and asked if he could come over and help her out. He agreed and assured her that he was on his way. "Thank heavens!" She sighed when she heard the siren of the ambulance approaching the house.
She raced downstairs and nearly twisted her ankle in the process. When the paramedics came into the house, Travis got distracted by them and hopped off the couch, knocking everything over and creating a huge mess.
"Oh, dear," Emilia sighed and picked him up. She would have to deal with that mess later.
In the dining room, the paramedics placed Chloe on a gurney and were trying to revive her as well. She groaned weakly but her eyes were still closed.
Just then, someone knocked on the front door and Emilia hurried away to see who it was. She heaved a big sigh of relief when she saw Matt there.
"Thank God, you're here!" She exclaimed. "Please, hold Travis for me."
She passed her son to Matt who gladly carried the boy and started making funny faces at him. By now, Chloe was half awake and was being carried to the ambulance.
"I have to go with them," Emilia informed Matt. "Can I trust you to watch Travis for me?"
"Of course, you can," he assured her. "Go on, Travis will be fine."
She was scared to leave her son with a semi-stranger but she didn't like the idea of taking her toddler along to the hospital under such traumatic circumstances.

"Ok," he said in a small voice and Emilia's heart broke a little.
She ran off to join the ambulance but then Travis began to cry and wiggle in Matt's arms. It was a heart-wrenching sight and Emilia couldn't bear to leave him like that.
"Why don't we all go to the hospital together then?" Matt suggested. He knew it would be hell for him if he got stuck with this cranky toddler for more than a few minutes. "I don't have a car here," said Emilia.
"My truck is parked down the road," said Matt. "I left it there because the tyres are muddy and I didn't want to drag in tracks of dirt across Bertha's driveway. Emilia smiled. “She's not even here to see it."
"Still..."
"We're leaving now, ma'am!" One of the paramedics called out to her. Chloe's gurney had been loaded into the ambulance and they were ready to leave. "We'll follow you," she answered them.
Matt handed Travis back to her and led the way to his truck. They piled in and followed the ambulance as it raced to the nearest hospital in town.
When they got to the hospital, Chloe was rushed to the emergency unit while Emilia, Travis and Matt waited in the lobby. One hour later, a doctor showed up to tell them the news that Emilia had been dreading.
"I'm afraid she lost the baby," he said calmly. "We have carried out an evacuation on her to clear out the remnants of the fetus."
"Will she be ok?" Emilia asked.
"Yes. She just needs to rest for now."
After the doctor left, Matt asked, "Are you going to call her boyfriend to inform him?"
"No."
"Why not? He was aware that she was pregnant right?"
"Yes, he was but he didn't want the baby."
"What a bum. How did she end up with such an irresponsible guy?"
Emilia couldn't tell him the identity of the so-called irresponsible guy because it was an embarrassing piece of information. Maybe it was a good thing that Chloe lost the baby. It would have been too scandalous to explain the child's paternity in the long run.
"Well, that's not a problem anymore because their relationship has taken its final breath. There's nothing tying her to him anymore and that's the way it should be."
Matt gave her a weird look. "I feel that there's more to what you're saying right now."
She smiled. "You already know everything you need to know, Matt. Let's keep it that way."
He shrugged. "Fine by me. Whatever you want is what I'm sticking with."
"I'm happy to hear that. Let's pop in and see how Chloe's doing. I need to head back to Granny's place to sort out the mess there."
"I'll join you if you want."
She gave him a suspicious look. "I don't want Molly to show up there with a carving knife specially picked out for me."
He laughed. "Don't worry, we'll keep everything PG. I promise."
Emilia smiled in response. Matt was supposed to be off limits but strangely enough, that made him even more attractive to her. She was playing with fire and it excited her greatly.
