Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1340
Jaired and King had ditched their truck and were making steady progress toward the chief's hideout. Fisher, meanwhile, hadn't heard a peep from Bryan, which led him to wrongly assume everything was under control.
Fisher had unwavering trust in Bryan, who had been his right-hand man for a solid decade, navigating countless risky missions and always coming back unscathed. For someone as shrewd and deceitful as Fisher to trust Bryan so deeply spoke volumes about their bond. But that trust backfired. Without updates from Bryan, Fisher felt secure, oblivious to the fact that King's men had already surrounded the area.
Fisher was in the middle of promising the chief that a hospital would be built soon, unaware that the chief already knew the government was distributing a year's worth of medical supplies, signaling a potential takeover and a glimmer of hope for the locals. Despite Fisher's grand promises, there had been no real action, and the chief was growing impatient.
"I know what you're up to, Fisher," the chief said with a cold smile. "You've got three days to start building that hospital, or my people and I will leave for the government's protection."
The chief's influence was on par with Fisher's, and the villagers trusted him deeply. If the chief decided to leave with the villagers, Fisher would lose his human shield-a grave and dangerous loss.
Realizing the stakes, Fisher's eyes flashed with cold resolve as he pulled out a silenced pistol and aimed at the chief's head. The chief didn't even have time to react before a bullet found its mark, and he crumpled to the ground.
With a cruel grin, Fisher mutilated the chief's face to make it look like a disease had killed him, then wrapped his head, leaving just enough blood visible to suggest an illness. He knew no one would dare to uncover it.
As he stepped into the dimming evening, Fisher couldn't shake the unease about Bryan's silence. He trusted Bryan completely, believing he was incapable of betrayal after years of loyal service.
But something felt off. The quiet
was unnerving. Just as he was
about to move to another room, a bullet hit his leg, bringing him down. Another bullet quickly followed, striking his abdomen. Any hope crawling to safety was dashed as two more bullets shattered his legs.
Fisher couldn't believe what was happening. Who would dare shoot him here? As King approached, Fisher's face twisted in rage and confusion. With Bryan supposedly keeping watch, how had King managed to slip through? What had gone wrong?
King, decisive and unyielding, had cut off Fisher's escape. Fisher had always believed he was safe, knowing only he had the map to the tunnels. But now, with his legs useless and his abdomen bleeding, escape was impossible.
King walked up, gun in hand, and Fisher managed a spiteful smile.
"Too late, my dear boy," he sneered. "Your woman? She was quite the delicacy. I've already had my fill, and so have my men."
