Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1341
But in the next second, another bullet struck his shoulder.
Fisher coughed in pain, his lips curling into a cold smirk. "Being loved by me was her privilege. Maybe she's already carrying my child. Such a pity for the beauty."
King reacted swiftly, his leg shooting out to kick Fisher squarely in the jaw. Fisher's jaw snapped to the side, leaving him unable to utter a single word.
He still couldn't wrap his head around how King had managed to infiltrate the place. With Bryan on his side, Fisher had thought his defenses were impenetrable. Bryan was his ace in the hole, and now that his fortress had been breached, he was at King's mercy. And King was merciless, not giving Fisher a moment to stall for time.
Meanwhile, King's crew was engaged in a fierce battle with the guards, the area erupting into chaos, bullets flying everywhere. But around King, there was a deadly calm.
"Where's Brielle?" he demanded, aiming his gun at Fisher. Fisher responded with a cold, blood-streaked sneer, full of disdain. He relished in the agony he thought he was inflicting on King. Even if King had arrived, Brielle had already been pushed into the labyrinth of tunnels below, beyond anyone's reach, especially with Fisher's trump card lying in wait.
King read the defiance in Fisher's eyes, knowing well he wouldn't get a shred of truth from him. So, he stood, pointing his gun at Fisher's heart. "Goodbye then."
Fisher's eyes reflected not fear but frustration, unable to accept how his meticulously laid plans had crumbled so swiftly. How had King infiltrated without a whisper of warning? What had gone wrong at the perimeter? But no answer came.
With a loud "Bang!", Fisher's eyes closed forever.
King's team quickly secured the area. Without Fisher and the professor, the remaining forces at the base ceased their resistance. Someone spilled the beans about the tunnels, and King's tech showed Brielle's signal overlapping with their légation, indicating she was somewhere beneath them.
Fisher had rigged nearly every room with an entrance to his elaborate network of tunnels, but few dared to venture into them, for each door could tead to untold dangers. But without entering, finding the exit was next to impossible.
Twenty people, including King with a rope tied around his waist, cautiously entered the tunnels. The sight that greeted them was staggering: forty passages, meaning the initial twenty were nowhere near sufficient. They needed double the manpower.
Luckily, local authorities were backing King's operation, sending an additional two hundred troops to assist. Including King, forty people, each secured with a rope, ventured into the labyrinth.
Fisher's intricate design meant that anyone rash enough to follow without caution was walking into a trap. The walls could rotate, turning a passage into a dead end in an instant.
Brielle, parched and weary, hadn't managed to open a single door. In this maze, among hundreds, only one led to freedom. She dared not act rashly, choosing instead to wait for King's rescue. She had faith in him.
Deciding against wasting more energy, Brielle found a spot to rest, only to freeze at the sound of approaching footsteps. Silently, she gripped a stone from the ground, ready for whatever came next.
