Chapter 33 – Becoming friends again

Bernice's POV

"Jessie? What are you doing here?" I ask, staring at Jessie who stood before me at my doorway.

She stared down at her feet sheepishly for a moment before bringing her gaze back to me. She's still in her ball gown, so I know she came here directly from the ball.

"Can I come in, so we can talk?" Jessie asks again, meeting my eyes.

I step aside for her to enter. She hurries into my room, and I shut the door behind us. She sprawls out onto my bed as she used to, curling up and peering up at me with sad eyes. I sit beside her and keep my eyes steadily on hers. I thought back to her accusations against me; she accused me of using her brother for my own selfish gain. As if Landry isn't aware of our arrangement. I was hurt that Jessie thought so little of me and that Landry didn't bother to correct her until it was too late.

"Oh, Denise," she cries the fake name I had given her. "I'm so sorry for being so cruel to you. I shouldn't have said what I said."

No. She shouldn't have. But I don't say so, I just allow her to continue.

"If I knew my cousin would try to play such an awful trick toward you, I would have never allowed her in my ball."

I rose my brows; Jessie is aware that Tina tried to drug me and that I only switched the glasses?

"How did you know it was Tina's trick and not mine?" I ask.

"I heard a maid speaking about it," she cries. "She was saying she saw Tina put something in the wine before trying to hand it to you. She said she saw you switching the glasses."

I shook my head at the thought of Tina trying to do such a nasty thing.

"Why do you think she would do that to me?" I ask in return.

"Jealousy," Jessie shrugs. "She has it in her head that she's going to marry Landry and become the luna queen. You threaten that position."

I shake my head and stare down at my lap; I don't want to have this conversation again, remembering what happened last time.

"I'm not threatening anything. As I said before, my relationship with Landry isn't like that..."

"Yeah yeah, just sexual partners. Right?" Jessie says with an eye roll. I don't bother to answer out loud, but I nod, giving her my answer. "I want to understand, but I don't. When are you going to open your eyes and see that he loves you? You not wanting him that way is ultimately hurting him."

"This agreement was his idea," I say; she looks surprised by that information. "I help him however I can too. It's not a one-sided agreement."

She sighs and stares at her hands, tugging at her fingers awkwardly.

"You seriously have no feelings for my brother?"

I don't answer right away; I stare around at her sunken features, and I know this conversation is painful for her. There is a part of me that wants to give her what she's asking for, but I can't bring myself to do it. As she asks that question, I could still see a bit of hope lingering in her eyes and I sigh.

"If I did have that kind of feeling, I would never know it," I admit to her; she rose her brows at my response. "Growing up, I didn't have a great role model to tell me what love is. I never learned that type of feeling. So, if I do have feelings for him, I wouldn't know what it would feel like."

She gasps.

"Oh, my goddess! You've been deprived of love? That makes so much more sense! It's not that you don't love him, it's that you don't know what love feels like!!" She laughs as she speaks; I can see the excitement all over her face and I'm unsure of where it is coming from.

"I suppose you are correct," I say to her in return.

She grabs onto my hand and her eyes are large.

"That's completely fine, Denise. Just give it some time; Landry is a romantic. He will show you what love is and soon, you'll forget what it's like to be unloved. I promise."

I frown; unsure of what she means, but I don't argue with her. I'm just glad she's talking to me again and I don't want to ruin that. She wraps her arms around me and hugs me tightly. Tears are springing from her eyes, and she sniffles as she continues the embrace.

"You are going to be a wonderful luna queen someday," she breathes.

My entire body goes still at her words.

I'm going to make a wonderful what?

Tina's POV

Tina's body finally calmed down after a few hours. She made a complete fool of herself at the ball, and in front of Landry too. That omega bitch must have switched the glasses. How did she even know what Tina was planning? Nobody makes Tina look bad, especially not a fraud.

There's a loud knocking on her door that causes her to jump up from her bed. She already knows who it is before she opens the door; she doesn't need to ask. Her father stands before her, and he was red in the face. She knows how angry he is since the ball; she humiliated the entire family.

"Do you have any idea what you have done?!: Her father growls; the vein in his neck pulsating the angrier he grew. "How do you suppose we recover from this?!"

After her parents had gotten her out of the ballroom, they brought her home and locked her in her room. They called a doctor who gave her some berries to help calm her body. This was the first interaction she was having with her parents since that happened.

"We will figure something out," her mother said from behind him.

He's so tall and wide, Tina almost didn't realize her mother is standing behind him.

"I... I don't know what happened..." Tina breathes, staring down at her feet. "I'm sorry father. I'm sorry mother..."

"Don't apologize. Fix this, Tina. Or we will put it in our hands."

Her father turns away and slams the door as he leaves, causing Tina to flinch at the loud sound. She feels defeated after her interaction with her father. she sits down on her bed and buries her face in her hands. All she wants to do at that moment is scream. She's so frustrated that the omega was able to humiliate her and her family so deeply.

She is never going to allow something like that to happen ever again.

She can still hear the murmurs of her father and mother in the hallway, bickering about what they were going to do next.

Little did they know, Tina has already come up with another plan to get what she wants. If she couldn't get Landry to leave the omega bitch, then she would get the omega bitch to leave Landry. She was going to make Landry so unappealing, that she would have no other choice but to leave.
