Mating the Female Alpha
Chapter 34 – Rogue invasion

Landry's

POV

Landry didn't return to Bernice all night. He stayed away to give her the space she needs. He needed the space too. He can't help but feel hurt over what she had said to him. That this was nothing more than a sexual arrangement. Of course, he knew that they did one another a favor and it was an agreement they both had, but it still bothered him that she was still claiming that she doesn't harvest any feelings for him.

He went to his office early this morning to get some paperwork done before his day began. As he walks by Bernice's door, he could hear nothing but silence. He figures she's sleeping soundly and continues down the narrow halls until he reaches his study door.

Hours have gone by since he's gone to his study. He was deep in his work when he received a mindlink from his beta.

"Alpha, we have a problem."

"What is it, beta?"

"There's a rogue attack in the northern region. We are going to need all hands on deck for this one. Gammas are already on their way there as we speak. Shall I tell them we are expecting you?"

Landry stood to his feet with fury rising through him. He isn't in the mood to deal with rogue wolves today, but he was going to make sure they knew they are messing with the wrong wolves.

"I'll be there as soon as I can," Landry says before disconnecting the mindlink.

Before he can leave his office, the door swings open and he was startled to see Bernice standing before him. He can't tell from her face what she was thinking or feeling, but she narrows her eyes at him. Her face is so serious it gives Landry an uneasy feeling.

"You aren't going anywhere without me," she said, folding her arms across her chest. "If there's a rogue attack, I want to help."

"It's too dangerous," Landry barked at her, shoving past her to leave his office. "You'll stay here if you want to remain safe."

"It's been too long since I got my hands dirty, Landry," she said from behind him. "Let me help fight against this rogue attack. It shouldn't all be on you." "We can handle it," Landry insisted. "Just leave it alone. I will see you soon. Then, we can talk."

He gives her a stern look and she looks almost embarrassed.

"If you have forgotten again, I am a capable fighter. I've saved your ass on multiple occasions if I remember correctly. So, why won't you let me go with you?" "Because the assassin is still out there, Bernice."

"And you don't think I can stand my own?" Bernice asks, raising her brows at him. "I thought you thought more highly of me, Landry."

"That's not what I'm saying,' he sighs. "It's just way too dangerous and as the king, I can't put you in that kind of danger knowing what's out there."

She opens her mouth to protest, but nothing comes out of her mouth this time. She finally sighs and steps away from him.

"Okay..." she says, but she doesn't sound pleased about it.

He sighs as well and places his hands on her shoulders, bringing her gaze up to his.

"I promise, when it's safe again, you'll be able to fight alongside me again. But until then, I really need you to stay here, where I know you'll be safe. Okay?"

She nods her head once but doesn't' meet his gaze again.

"Okay."

...

It only takes Landry a little over an hour to reach the northern region of the kingdom in his wolf form. Once he arrives, his men are already in the midst of a fight. There seem to be rogues everywhere. What they were after was unclear, but Landry didn't care to find out what the reasoning behind the attack was.

Thankfully, Landry's men are fair and strong fighters. Has Landry continued to fight; he glimpses a blonde lock of hair hiding behind a nearby tree. There were other rogues there as well and before Landry had a chance of reaching the tree, both rogues had fallen in defeat.

Landry was shocked to see Bernice standing above the rogues; she was deep breathing, and she looks furious.

"What are you doing here?" Landry scolded.

He had told her he wanted her to stay home because of how dangerous it was for her to be out in the open. Telling from not only her looks, but her scent, she had drunk that potion that sealed away her Omega traits and scent. She was disguising herself as the female alpha. That very potion is what was killing her.

"I'm here to fight," she said, standing by his side.

"I told you to stay at the palace where you can be safe."

"And I told you, I want to serve and protect my people. Don't take that away from me."

"Bernice..."

"I'm already here, let me fight by your side like old times."

He sighs, but he no longer wishes to continue the argument. The rogues were closing in on his people, despite how hard they tried to fight them off. Landry finally gives Bernice the nod of approval and together they fight off the last of the rogues.

Bernice fought with bravery and strength. Landry almost forgot how quickly she can move along the battleground. She kicks her feet above her head and kicks them square in the face. She used her arms for leverage as she threw punches in their direction, getting them directly in the face. Her blond hair dances around her narrow features and sticks to her features as sweat piles on her forehead, dripping down the nape of her neck.

She breathes heavily as she continued running around the fighting grounds. She wasn't going to let them see any kind of weakness. As she continued fighting with Landry quickly by her side, he couldn't help but see the faint smile on her lips; she was having fun.

...

Bernice's POV

I couldn't allow Landry to go to the northern region of the kingdom and fight those rogues without me. Something serious could have happened if I didn't go with them and the thought of anything bad happening while I'm not there to help, leaves an unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Nobody noticed me following them and storing myself away until I reached the rogues. I knew Landry was going to be angry with me. I finally feel like myself again as I fight the rogues; I feel untouchable.

We were down to the last few rogues; Landry has caught up to me and fought by my side. By the end of the fight, I start feeling a wave of heat washing over me, causing my breathing to harden. I pause before we take off and my flesh is growing pink and warm to the touch.

Landry watched me curiously for a moment with a frown on his face.

"Bernice?" He asked, narrowing his eyes at me.

I lifted my gaze and my mouth nearly waters with desire. My heart began to beat quickly in my chest as I undress him with my eyes.

The thought of his touch on my heated skin made me feel so hot.

Oh no.

I'm in heat.
