Mating the Female Alpha
Chapter 48 – Am I jealous?

Bernice's

POV

Vomit came out of my mouth so quickly that I hardly had the time to shut the door. I suddenly felt so sick that I couldn't keep it in anymore. Not only was my heart weighing heavily in my chest, but my stomach was completely turned around.

What the hell just happened?

"It's because you are hurt after what you heard," Julie whispered in my ear. "It's jealousy..."

Jealousy?

I had never felt jealousy ever in my entire life.

I shook my head, refusing that was what that feeling was. Another wave of nausea surfaced, and I felt a bit lightheaded.

"It's okay to admit that you like him," Julia laughed. "Why are you being so stubborn about this?"

"I'm not being stubborn," I shot back to her. "I don't have feelings for him... I wouldn't know it even if I did."

"And you are to tell me you didn't have fun on your date with him?" Julia teased. "You can lie to yourself, but my dear Bernice... you can't lie to me."

...

Landry's POV

Landry hears Bernice's door shutting softly just as he brushed Tina's hand off his arm. Tina frowns and sighs like she's been defeated. But he knew she wasn't going to give up this easily. It wasn't in her nature.

"If you'll excuse me, I'm very busy Tina," he says to her calmly as he turns away and walks toward Bernice's door.

Even as he opened the door and went inside, he could still feel Tina's eyes on the back of his head.

Bernice was crouched on the ground with a towel in her hands and a pile of vomit seeping into the floorboards. Landry paused as he stared at her; she was in the process of cleaning it up.

"What happened?" He asked, rushing toward her.

She shook her head and continued to clean the vomit on the ground.

"Let me see that," he ordered, grabbing the towel from her. "You need to get into bed. I'll call the doctor back."

"No," she says quickly, grabbing onto his arm. "It'd be pointless. He won't do anything. It'd be a wasted trip."

"You are clearly unwell," Landry says in return. "You were right. It could be serious."

"I'm fine," she says, with another head shake. "I must have eaten something bad. I'm fine though. I swear." She fakes a smile, which he doesn't return.

"Just get into bed; I'll clean this."

She looks surprised by that and then he could see the playful smile on her lips.

"You? The infinite Alpha King? Cleaning a mess?"

He rolls his eyes, but he can't help the smile on his own lips.

"It's either that or others hear about this and assume you're pregnant," he says in return with a playful tone.

The color in her face drained and she pulled herself to her feet.

"I was just kidding," she huffed, but she laughs and so does he.

He finishes cleaning the mess before discarding the towel. He turned to her to say goodnight for the final time that evening, but she was peering up at him with a timid frown on her lips. He could see that there was something wrong. Her eyes looked worn out and the coloring in her cheeks was gone.

Most importantly, she looked like she wanted to say something.

"Has Tina left?" She asked, blinking a few times.

So, she has been listening.

"Yes," he answered. "How much of that did you hear?"

"Enough."

Was she upset? He didn't dare ask.

"She was here to apologize for her behavior at the banquet," he explains.

"Is that all?" "Yes."

He paused as he looked around her face; she was upset about what she had heard. She might even be a little jealous. He could tell that she was trying hard not to express that feeling to him, but he knew something was off. She was chewing on her bottom lip like there was so much more she wanted to say, but she refrained from doing so.

He didn't pry any further either. He gave her a small smile and went over to her bed.

"Move over," he orders. She looked surprised at first, but then she moved to the side, giving him some room to get into bed. She stared at him for a moment like she was expecting him to do something, but he just stared at the ceiling and doesn't even try to touch her. "What?" He asked innocently.

"What are you doing?"

"What does it look like?" He rose his brows. "Going to bed."

"Here?"

"Yes. Why not?"

"Because we haven't..." she paused, and the color was returning to her face slightly.

He gave her a sly smile.

"Haven't what?" He asked playfully; she didn't need to answer, but it was fun teasing her.

She rolled her eyes and lay down beside him.

"Nothing," she muttered, staring up at the ceiling.

"We aren't going to do anything until you brush your teeth, vomit breath," he says with a laugh.

She lifted her head to look at him; a shocked expression on her face that he can't help but laugh at.

"Shut up," she says coldly, grabbing a pillow and smacking him in the face with it. Even as she hits him with the pillow with force, he can see the humor dancing in her eyes. She was trying hard not to laugh and that filled his heart with joy.

Bernice's POV

I woke the next morning to Landry being gone. I hadn't slept like that in a long time. I don't even remember falling asleep. We stayed up for a little while, joking and laughing, and then I passed out. When I woke, he was gone.

The sun was beaming through the closed window blinds, indicating that it was morning. My heart was still racing in my chest, and I had to press my palm against it to steady it. I took in a deep breath as I slid out of bed.

I grabbed clothing from one of the drawers; it was just a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt.

I had breakfast alone this morning because Landry was busy with his interrogations of the prisoner. She goes by the name, Elise.

He refused to allow me to see her and help him interrogate her. Which was frustrating because I've done it many times before. But because they are after me, he wanted me to stay as far away from her as possible.

Thankfully, I wasn't alone for long though. Jessie came to the palace to see me. She was looking much better than she had the last time I saw her after we rescued her from the vampire spy. It seemed she had showered, and she didn't have that ghostlike look in her gaze.

The maids brought her a plate of food as she sat beside me at the dining table. She gave me a fond smile before she began eating.

"How are you feeling, Jessie?" I ask her, staring around her pale features.

"Better," she says, a twang of confidence in her tone. "I'm not going to let something like that get me down. But I also didn't want to be alone. So, I came here."

"I'm glad you did," I say in return. "Something has been happening and I've been wanting to ask you about it. I wanted to know if it's ever happened to you before..."

I wasn't sure what I was doing. I shouldn't be telling her this, but I needed to tell somebody before I drove myself crazy. My mind wouldn't stop, and my heart wouldn't calm itself down.

I had a feeling this wasn't the side effects of the medication.

So, what else could it be?

"What's wrong?" She asked with a small frown.

"It's my heart..." I began. "Lately, I've been feeling a flutter." I press the palm of my hand to my chest. "Right here... I don't know where it's coming from. But it started after we rescued you... her eyes widened. "It mainly happens when Landry is around. The doctors don't know what's wrong with me. The feeling had gone into my stomach last night when I heard Tina in the hallway. She was talking to Landry, and I felt this nauseating sensation in the pit of my stomach...." I paused before adding this last part. "I threw up, Jessie. I don't know what's wrong with me..."

"It's his heroism..." she breathed, wiggling her brows. "It must have spoken to you."

"What do you mean by that?" I ask in return.

"It means you're attracted to my brother. If you are asking my opinion... I would say that you are in love with him."
