Mating the Female Alpha -
Chapter 59 – Unforgivable act
Landry's
POV
Landry never thought he would see Cora's face again. It's been over a decade since she made her last appearance in his life. Her last departure, he thought would be the final time. But she shows up to Tina's funeral, completely unannounced. He felt furious that she would randomly show up, making herself known to Bernice. But it was too late now; Bernice had met Cora. That was the last thing he wanted.
He hoped she wouldn't get the wrong idea.
Cora and Landry were childhood friends; for a long while, his parents wanted them to get married. In fact, his mother already had preparations for their wedding before either of them could walk. Cora had it in her head for a long time that she was going to be the luna queen once they are of age.
It was a never-ending battle between her and Tina.
However, Landry never wanted either of them to be the luna queen.
Cora was a little older than Landry; she was around Jessie's age. The two of them were friends as well. As teenagers, Cora had gained the respect of most of the kingdom and most of the palace, including Jessie. Cora took pride in her looks; being a fashion diva was something that came easily to her.
She was also talented in makeup and hair.
It was what she wanted to do for a living. The palace supported her passions and even sent her money to pursue her dreams.
Landy's mother had died when he was young and never actually got to see Landry get married, but he knew she hoped that it would be Cora that walked down the aisle to greet Landry.
Cora had taken a lot from the palace over the years. Money, jewels, and even a little bit of power. Everybody in the kingdom knew who she was, and she fed off that power.
The power got her greedy; Landry realized as they aged that their friendship was never genuine. Maybe it was at first, but greed had taken over her.
It wasn't until he had woken up from a drunken slumber with Cora naked by his side that he realized how greedy she truly was.
She had drugged his drink and taken advantage of him. She tried to get herself pregnant to trap him into a real marriage.
When her plan had failed, he told her to leave and never return. He told her to never speak a word about this to anyone and that he won't punish her for her crimes. She left and he hadn't seen her since.
He never even told Jessie about that. It would break her heart if she knew the friend, they once had, was more deceitful than Tina ever was.
And that Jessie was blind to it.
But now, Landry is the Alpha King. How could he possibly tell his older sister and Bernice, the woman he loved, that he was taken advantage of by this she-wolf?
He was supposed to be the strong and mighty Alpha King. But he was weakened by a woman.
Jessie seemed uneasy to see Cora there as well; he could tell that she knew something had happened between the two of them and that he wasn't happy that she was there.
She had good intel.
As for Bernice, well, she was practically unreadable. She kept glancing up at Landry with a timid frown like she was expecting him to explode at any moment. But he kept his calm composure. He wasn't to speak about this right here, not during Tina's funeral. Not with everything already going on.
He decided to open a mindlink, including Bernice, to his beta.
"I need you to find out where Tina's parents are," he ordered his beta.
Bernice glances up at him, hearing the message.
His beta responds quickly with, "Yes sir."
"Report back to me as soon as you can."
He ends the mindlink before his beta can respond. He wasn't going to let Cora's reappearance bother him.
By the end of the ceremony, Landry didn't stick around to say farewell to Cora. He kissed his sister's cheek and told her what a wonderful job she did, before taking Bernice's hand and guiding her out of the palace.
They rushed back to Landry's palace before Cora could catch up. Bernice didn't ask why they were rushing; she probably figured he wanted to get away from that mystery woman. He was just waiting for Bernice to ask questions about her; but to his surprise, she didn't.
"That was a lovely ceremony," Bernice says as they return to the palace.
"It was," he agreed.
"I'm going to take a bath," she told him as she turned toward the grand stairs.
He watched the movements of her hips as she walked toward the stairs, wondering if that was her way of inviting him to go with her. She wasn't going in heat or anything; the berries and his blood were still well in effect. But the way her body moved; it was tempting to follow her.
He could feel his member shifting in his pants and he licked his lips, thinking about having a taste of her.
He went to follow her up the stairs but paused when he heard a knock on the door. He turned in time to see the doorman opening the door and Cora stood before him. He swallowed hard.
He should have known she would appear here at any moment.
Thankfully, Bernice didn't notice her arrival and continued up the stairs. He waited for Bernice to disappear fully before speaking.
"Why are you here, Cora?" Landry asked in a deep and annoyed tone.
"I came to speak with you..." she breathed; her eyes filled with false compassion. "But you left so quickly..."
He knew she wasn't genuine. She heard of Tina's death and thought she could wiggle her way back into his life.
He wasn't going to allow that to happen.
Not after what she had done.
"There's nothing for us to speak about," he says coldly to her.
He turns away to go toward the stairs, but she heals click on the marble flooring, indicating that she was walking inside.
"Please, Landry!"
"It's Alpha King," he nearly roared.
His voice boomed across his palace, causing his servants that were nearby to shudder. The look of fear on Cora's face caused him to sigh and shake his head.
After a moment he turned again but this time he walked toward the living room. She followed behind him at a distance.
He sat in his chair, and she sat on the long couch across the coffee table.
"I know I'm the last person you want to see right now," she breathed, staring down at her hands. "Words can't explain how sorry I am..."
"We made a deal that you weren't to return here," Landry says, keeping his tone even. "And yet here you are. Unannounced."
"I know..." she says sadly, tears welling in her eyes. "I haven't been able to stop thinking about what I did to you. For over a decade, it's been in my mind. My heart is so broken and I..." "That isn't my problem, Cora. What you did was unforgivable."
"You and Jessie were my best friends growing up. I thought maybe..."
"What is it you want? More money? Jewels? To be the luna queen now that Tina is out of the way?"
"Of course not," Cora said, shocked. "I swear, I'm only here to make things right between us."
She reached her hand out to grab him, but he remained unmoved.
"I want to make things right with Jessie as well; she already agreed to let me stay in her palace for the next couple of weeks."
"What?" Landry asked, feeling his world crashing down around him. "What do you mean 'the next couple of weeks?""
"I mean... I'm staying in a town for a little while. I want us to work through our past. If you'll allow me..."
