Mating the Female Alpha
Chapter 62 – Landry was shot!

Bernice's POV

Watching Landry fall to the ground with that silver arrow sticking out of his chest was the worst thing I had seen in a long time. I couldn't explain the surge of feelings that escaped me, but I knew I couldn't lose him. Not like this. He was never supposed to die before me. Tears were filling my eyes before I could even put a stop to them.

"Please..." I begged him as he closed his eyes. "You can't leave me. I just fell in love with you..." I heard those words escaping my lips before I could stop them.

I realized, as soon as I said them, how true they were.

My wolf had told me that I loved him, but I didn't believe her. Now that he was laying before me with a silver arrow sticking out of him and wasting away before my eyes, I knew at that moment how I felt for him. I was in love with him.

I was in love with Alpha King Landry.

He didn't respond to my confession though; I wasn't sure if he heard me. My heart remained heavy in my chest as he lay limp in my arms.

I glanced up at the vampire that was once in the tree but was now being attacked by the Beta. Fury was crossing through me as I glanced around at the rest of the fighting. We were starting to have the upper hand. We outnumbered the rest of them, and I could take them easily, with or without Landry.

I knew if we didn't end this battle soon and get Landry out of here, he would die for sure. As of right now, he had a faint heartbeat and was breathing. Though, it was very light. But it meant he was alive. I just had to hope that he had a little strength left in him to keep him alive.

I looked around at the battle that continued. It seemed our warriors were holding off the remaining bears and vampires. Most importantly, they were holding off Tina's parents.

I pulled Landry to the shadow region, leaning him against a building so he wasn't in the way of the battle. From there, I fought alongside the other alphas until there were only a couple of bears left and then Tina's parents. A lot of the vampires had fled the scene.

Tina's parents were heading toward us but were preoccupied with a couple of our men that had attacked them. I wanted them for myself. I blamed them the most for what happened to Landry. I wasn't able to control Julia much longer; she wanted their blood on her claws.

I used the rest of the strength I had to lunge at them, using my large canines to rip through their flesh. I watched their lives drain from their eyes as blood spilled from their bodies. My claws dug into their flesh, and I bared my teeth into their necks, ripping their throats from their bodies.

I stood, drenched in blood, staring around at the battlegrounds that have now calmed drastically. The rest of the warriors were cleaning the mess, and some were nursing their wounds.

"I'm going to patrol the rest of the kingdom with some of the men. There are vampires that ran off. You should get him to the hospital right away," the beta said, staring over at Landry who remained where I left him.

Landry was still alive when I returned to him, but he was still unconscious. He was back in his human form because his wolf had weakened drastically; it could no longer maintain his wolf form.

"Landry...?" I whispered to him, hoping he could hear me. "Stay with me; I'm going to get you some help."

I was aware my words were quivering, but I didn't care. I grabbed him and placed him on top of my wolf's back. He remained limp, which worried me that much more.

I ran with him on my back as quickly as I could until the King's hospital came into view. Typically, he would have wanted his medical treatments to be done in the comfort of his own palace; in his infirmary, but he needed more than what the infirmary could give him.

As soon as I appeared in the hospital, the staff was already working on getting him into a room. I shifted back into my human- form, my body trembling with fear.

"Here," a nurse said, giving me scrubs to cover my bare body. I mumbled my thanks to her, not able to speak any more than that. "We are going to do everything we can to make sure he survives this. Don't worry," she says to me with a kind smile.

I nod, but that doesn't make me any less worried.

I sit in the waiting room because they won't allow me to see him while he's in treatment. I bury my face in my hands as tears sprang from my eyes. I was an omega; I was allowed to show these emotions.

Right?

"Denise!" Jessie cries as she runs through the waiting room. She calls my fake name because nobody here knows my secret. I could see the terror on her face. I must have been here longer than I thought for her to already know Landry was in trouble. "The beta mindlinked me and told me that Landry has been taken here. What happened?"

"He..." I tried to get the words out, but my voice was failing me. "He..."

"Denise?" She said, sitting beside me, tears filling her worried eyes. "What happened?" She asked again.

"It was a silver arrow," I cried into my hands.

She gasped at my words.

"What?" She said, her words quivering. "A silver arrow?"

I nodded, unsure of what else to say.

She wrapped her arms around mine and placed her head on my shoulder.

"He's going to be okay..." she whispered. "He has to be."

We stayed like that for a long while until the doctor finally appeared before us.

"Your highness," the doctor bowed to Jessie.

"Please, how is my brother," Jessie demanded to know.

The doctor lifted his gaze to meet hers.

"He hasn't woken yet, but the Alpha King is extremely strong. I have faith that he will make a full recovery soon enough," he answered.

I finally felt like I could breathe.

"When do you think he will wake?" Jessie asked.

"It's hard to tell," the doctor answered. "I'm thinking soon though. I wouldn't worry too much about it. His wolf is working fast to heal him. You can see him if you'd like." "Thank you, doctor," Jessie said to him, wrapping her arm through mine. The doctor bowed again before taking off. "Come on..." she said, pulling me along with her. I was resistant though.

"I..." I began, causing her to pause and frown at me. "I think I need a minute."

She narrowed her eyes at me.

"A minute?" She asked. "You heard the doctor; Landry is going to be okay. What's wrong?"

How could I tell her that I told Landry that I loved him? The words were still playing on my lips and I wasn't even sure if he heard them. My heart was so confused.

"I know," I said to her, trying to force a smile on my face. "I just need a minute to catch my breath. It's been a long day..." she nodded as if she understood and released my arm. "You can go ahead though. I'll join you in a few minutes." She was about to turn, but the doors of the hospital swung open, and a familiar presence invaded the room.

"Where is he?!" Cora cried, turning our attention to her. "Where is my Landry?!"
