Mating the Female Alpha -
Chapter 94 – The Final Battle
Third Person POV
At a young age, Caleb had learned from his father how to break into safes. He wasn't sure why that was a skill his father had taught him, or how his father even knew how to do such a thing. He never thought that type of skill would ever come in handy; until now.
It didn't take him long to get into Alaric's safe; once he had it opened, there was only one thing inside. It was wrapped in this maroon, silk cloth. As soon as Caleb touched it, he knew whatever was inside was incredibly sharp. He could also feel the dark magic consuming it. It gave him an uneasy feeling.
He didn't think this was something he should be holding; but somehow, he knew that this was the key to defeating Alaric.
He unwrapped the object to uncover a dagger. It was an interesting dagger made entirely of silver. The handle was maroon with golden swirls, just like everything else in this room. Caleb was sensing a theme.
This was what was going to kill Alaric once and for all.
"You thought you were clever, breaking into my chambers?" He heard a cruel and dark voice from the doorway.
He looked up to see Alaric standing before him. Caleb has never been this close to Alaric before, and he instantly felt intimidated. But he needed to remember that he was doing this for his sister. He had to be brave at this moment, despite how badly his hands trembled as he continued clutching the dagger-like his life depended on it. Technically it did.
"Tell me where Bernice is,” Caleb demanded through his gritted teeth.
"That's not how this is going to work. You are going to hand me my dagger and you are going to leave with your life. Understand, wolf?"
"Tell me where she is!" Caleb demanded again.
Alaric narrowed his eyes at Calen; for a moment, Caleb saw a flash of humor. "You're acting brave, but I can see the fear in your eyes. How old are you?"
"That's not your business."
"Maybe not, but it's clear how inexperienced you are in combat. You might fight with the others fair, but when you're alone, you are nothing more than a young pup. It's pathetic that you are the one who found the dagger. I was hoping for a little more of a challenge."
The fact that Alaric was down here at this moment worried Caleb.
What happened with Landry?
Caleb knew at that moment that he didn't have time to think. If he wanted to defeat Alaric it was now or never. So, he ran at Alaric at full speed with the dagger in hand; he screamed as he attempted to plunge the dagger into Alaric's chest, but Alaric dodged the attack with ease, causing Caleb to run into the wall, hitting his head.
Alaric laughed, shaking his head.
"That was pathetic," he laughed. "You didn't think it would be that easy... did you?"
Alaric held out his hand, allowing a force of energy to be released from his palm. Caleb went flying across the room, dropping the dagger to the ground as he was pressed again the wall by the invisible force. He could feel the blood trickling down his face as he hit his head again.
Caleb gritted his teeth, fury fueling him. The dagger was close to him, but just out of reach. He couldn't get out of Alaric's invisible force.
"You aren't going to win," Caleb hissed, ignoring the pain that was coursing through his body as Alaric continued the pressure against his body. It felt like he was being continuously pushed against wall. "I've already won," Alaric said, narrowing his eyes. "The question is, when are you going to give up?"
"Why are you doing this?" Caleb demanded to know. "If you are planning on killing me, then I at least deserve to know."
"You wolves don't deserve anything, especially not this land. You are weak and pathetic creatures that shouldn't be occupying any amount of land. That Wolf King of yours certainly doesn't deserve the title king." "So, that's what you want? His title?" Caleb scoffed. "And you call me pathetic."
"Yes, you are pathetic, and yes, that's exactly what I want. Once I take over at the rightful king, I will then take over the bear territory as well."
"You greedy son of a bitch."
"That's all anyone wants, is land and power," Alaric laughed. A new force of energy escaped his hands, driving Caleb deeper into the wall. For a moment, he thought his heart was going to explode. It was like Alaric was squeezing his heart with his bare hands. He gasped in pain, unable to steady his breath.
He couldn't breathe.
This seemed to please Alaric, he had a look in his eyes that sent a chill down Caleb's spine. Caleb stared down at the dagger that was near his feet; he was so close to it. If only he could move, he could grab it.
He needed some kind of distraction for Alaric to lessen his grip.
"What do you need my nephew for?" Caleb asked through a clenched jaw.
Alaric frowned, staring around Caleb's face for a short while.
"Oh, I see... you're that she-wolf's brother. That's why you are fighting with passion like an idiot."
"Answer the question," Caleb demanded through his teeth, wincing as more pain coursed through his body. He wasn't sure how much more of this he was going to be able to take. Any more pressure he would surely pass out. He had to stay away for Bernice's sake.
"Feisty little wolf," Alaric laughed. "If I have the Wolf King's kid, he will give me whatever the hell I want. That's why I want him."
Caleb went to say something more, trying to buy time so he can figure out a distraction, but then he saw Landry in the corner of his eyes. He had gotten into the layer; he was near the desk, lighting a match.
The desk was made of nice wood, so it'll burn nicely. But why was he trying to start a fire?
The desk went up in the flames quickly, Landry dodged out of the way before he engulfed himself in the fire. It only took a moment of distraction for Alaric, his eyes widened as he snapped a look at what was happening.
At first, he didn't see Landry. Caleb could see the pure confusion in his expression, and then the rage that followed it. But that was the distraction that Caleb desperately needed; with that distraction, Alaric had lessened some of the energy that kept Caleb pinned firmly against the wall. It was enough for Caleb to grab the dagger.
As the dagger touched his fingertips, it was like the dark energy no longer had an effect on him. He was able to free himself from the clutches of Alaric and move of free will once again. Alaric went to attack Landry, momentarily forgetting all about Caleb.
That was his biggest mistake.
Just as Alaric went to turn to attack Landry, Caleb ran at full force, a growl escaping his throat. Landry stared up at Alaric with a smirk knowing exactly what was about to happen.
Caleb managed to plunge the dagger deep into his back until it was coming out through his stomach. Alaric gasped, staring down at his wounded torso. For once in his life, Alaric was utterly speechless.
Caleb could feel the darkness from the dagger seeping into Alaric and tearing away at his insides. His features had gone pale, and his body trembled as he fell to the ground.
Landry gave Caleb a head nod of approval just as Caleb ripped the dagger out of his stomach and spun around to his front side, plunging it into his heart. Just in case.
Landry grabbed Caleb's arm, stopping him from doing any more.
Alaric head hit the ground and his eyes turned lifeless.
"He's gone," Landry breathed. "It's over."
