Mating the Female Alpha -
Chapter 95 – Alaric is dead!
Landry's POV
Caleb stood trembling with blood splattered across his body, standing over Alaric's dead body. Landry was amazed that Caleb had that much courage and managed to kill Alaric. Caleb looked utterly defeated, and yet he also looked relieved.
Landry knew this was a lot for a 15-year-old to take in.
He placed his hand on Caleb's shoulder, reassuring him that he was there and that he was going to be okay.
"We still don't know where Bernice is," Caleb cried. "She has all of us blocked. She won't know that Alaric is dead."
He was right and Landry would be lying if he said he wasn't also worried about that. But for right now, they needed to clean this mess. There will be other vampires after them once they realize their lord was taken from them. "Alpha King!" His Beta shouted in a mindlink. Caleb also looked up, indicating that he could also hear the Beta speaking. "You need to come out here... something is happening!"
Caleb and Landry exchanged wary looks before departing from the layer. Because most of the layer was made of concrete, the fire didn't go farther than the desk, so they didn't bother putting it out.
As they resurfaced into the forest, they both froze once they realized what was happening.
All the vampires that were once fighting with Alaric were passed out on the ground. All of them with bloody puncture wounds to the stomach and to the chest, just like Alaric. They had all gone pale and their eyes remained lifeless. None of them were breathing.
"What happened out here?" Landry asked, staring at all his men who remained unharmed. Some looked worn out, and others had wounds, but for the most part, everybody was alive and well.
"We don't know," the Beta said, staring at the scene with a wary look. "One minute they were fighting, the next they were passing out and had these bloody wounds on their bodies. It all happened at the same time." Caleb gasped, staring down at his trembling.
"Do you think it was the dagger?" He asked, staring up at Landry.
"No..." Landry said, shaking his head. "I think it was Alaric. He had his men linked to him. If he dies, so do they."
"All of his men?" The Beta asked, raising his brows. "Including the spies?"
There was no way for them to know that unless they find one of his spies with the same wounds and death.
"I guess we will find out when they surface," Landry said, shaking his head.
"Does that mean the vampire lord is gone?" One of the Alpha's said.
"Yes," Landry announced. He grabbed Caleb's arm and lifted it in the air, surprising Caleb. "Thanks to this young man, the vampire lord is officially defeated!"
The Alpha's and other warriors burst out into cheers. They surrounded Caleb, giving him pats on the back and ruffling his hair. Caleb couldn't help the smile on his face, though in his eyes, he was exhausted and still worried for his sister. Landry was worried as well. He needed to get to Bernice. He needed to find her. He spent so long looking for the layer, he didn't spend any time looking for Bernice. He just hoped she was somewhere safe in a pack.
"I need you to take some men and search each pack," Landry said to his Beta who remained by his side. "I need you to find Bernice and bring her home."
His Bega nodded.
"Yes, sir."
...
Bernice's POV
I returned to Talia's house; I left her dead in the woods. Soon enough she would be found, and the entire pack will be in a frenzy about a murder. I knew I needed to get out of there before my fingers were pointed at me. I wrapped my pup in his blanket and held him close to my chest as we made our way back to the house.
He had finally stopped crying; he could feel that he was safe now.
I was never going to let anything happen to him.
Once we returned to the house, I was able to put him down momentarily and clean myself off. I cleaned him as well before putting a small diaper on him and wrapping him back up in the blanket. He stared up at me with deep blue eyes, which warmed my heart. He looked so much like Landry already.
I couldn't wait to return to the palace and show Landry our son. We also needed to name him.
I grabbed a suitcase and began shoving some of my clothes and some of my pup's new clothing into the bag. I couldn't waste any more time, I had to get out of there.
Soon, I could hear the sirens sounding in the pack. I gasped; I knew the sound of this siren. It was the sound when something terrible was wrong. It was a warning to stay hidden. That meant they found Talia's body and is assuming there was an attack.
I held my pup in my arms, cradling him gently as I slung the bag over my shoulders. I couldn't stay here any longer.
I watched as the gammas of the pack, and Alpha Adam headed into the nearby forest. They were distracted, which meant I could get out of there. It sucked that I wouldn't be able to thank Adam for all that he has done for me though. But I couldn't dwell too much on it.
I slipped out of the house, shifting into my wolf, and tucking my pup in my chin as I ran in the opposite direction through the forest.
...
I wasn't sure how long I was running for, but I grew exhausted quite quickly. It must have been because my adrenaline was running low; maybe because I just gave birth only a few hours ago. It could also be that I haven't slept, but by the time I got to a nearby pack, I could hardly stand on my wolf's feet any longer.
Julia couldn't contain her form and shifted back into my human self. I held my pup in my arms, feeling exhaustion overtake me. My pup was already sleeping, but he hasn't eaten yet and my breasts were getting sore.
I needed to rest to feed him.
Telling from the position of the moon in the sky, it was nearing morning. This had to have been the longest night of my life.
I wasn't even sure where I was. I leaned my head against a tree and allowed my body to relax slightly. This was probably the least safe area to be with an infant, but I just needed to close my eyes for a few moments. "Bernice?"
I opened my eyes and peered up at a familiar face.
"Beta Donny?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at him.
It's been a long time since I've seen Beta Donna; he's the Beta of the Redmoon pack. His Alpha is one of Landry's warriors and is often gone from his pack, leaving Donny in charge most of the time.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, raising his brows. "Is that a baby?"
"It's a long story..." I breathed; I wasn't sure how much I should tell him. I was too exhausted to form words anyways.
He looked like he understood.
"Come on," he said, offering me his hand to help me to my feet. "Let's get you inside so you can rest. You look exhausted."
I gave him a weakened and tired smile as I accepted his offer. It would be nice to rest for the rest of the night and then regroup, then I can head back to Landry's pack later. I wasn't sure how I knew, but I knew that it was safe now. Watching Talia die randomly as she did, it had to be because of Alaric.
Donny brought me to his packhouse and allowed me to stay in one of the many rooms. I was able to bathe in a nice hot bath while one of the kitchen workers cooked me a home-cooked meal. My mouth was watering by the time she brought me the plate. I had never felt more grateful for anyone in my life.
As I ate, I was also able to relieve some of the tension in my breasts by feeding my young pup.
"What's his name?" The kitchen worker asked, watching me fondly.
"No name yet," I admit. "I'm hoping once I get home then I can think of something."
Once I finished eating, she cleared my plate and allowed me to rest for the rest of the morning. Sleep came quickly; my pup rested in the bed beside me, also overly exhausted it seemed.
As I drifted off to sleep, I could hear Donny murmuring something on the phone.
"Yeah, she just wandered into my pack. Someone should come and get her. She has a baby."
